Yesterday I attended my first track day event. Hands down one of the most exciting experiences I have had (thanks to Matt a.k.a echo_complex (M3 turbo dude) for giving me the heads up. I am 100% newbie when it comes to motorsport (other than the odd go kart lap lol) so this was a bit of a learning experience for me. After a few laps I slowly built up my confidence and starting to really give it a go. Yes, I ended up losing control and found myself going backwards through the paddock twice, but considering I was not holding back and it was my first time I guess it's not too bad . On my better laps I would hit around 200km down the long straight and do a lap in 1:52 (timed by my mate who was in the passenger seat). Just curious if anyone else has timed themselves around that track and what they were driving. P.S. My god was there some awesome cars racing that day... M6, E55, Jags, Mazeratti's, Porches and quite a few of those little lotus bullets (I timed one of them do a 1:45 which seemed by my calculations the fastest on the day). Finally, When is the next BMW track day meet... I am soooo in!!

E36 M3 Turbo Part 2
crazyarab replied to ecko_complex's topic in Forced Induction & Performance Tuning
Pshhh sif turbo, I'll still line you up ! So keen to see it, good effort Matt. p.s. I thought the 3.0 model came standard with 286hp? -
Looking good Mark , I see you slapped on the Msport front bumper!
-
We neeed one for Chch, I soo can't wait! Good luck with it boys !
-
Yep, good advice from the boys there. I have installed these on 4 E36's so far (2 of them my own) and they are DEFINITELY the way to go, the first set I installed was over a year ago and it's showing no sign of dimming or fading. Looks way better than the one piece set and cost a lot less (especially if you install them yourself, set me back about $160 all up). I have "documented" my last install and will be posting a complete DIY tutorial on how to install them in the very near future. p.s. Good choice on the Msport looking clear lights all round, much nicer than the altezza / clear indicators around. Here is what you can expect them to look like:

Mint car, never get tired of seeing photos of it mate, keep it up!
-
Such a nice example, so damn aggressive! And where o where did you get hold of those wheels??
-
I know it's a bit unusual, but if anyone has or knows of anyone that will sell a single Left Front eye brow I would be keen. I stupidly broke mine the other day >.<.
-
Haha, awesome to hear man, congrats!! I think I know of the car you are talking about, must have been the nice red one on trademe recently. Correct me if I'm wrong but were you the guy that was split between buying another wrx or that black M3 a while back? Anyhow, I have a rough idea how you might be feeling as I too recently purchased my M3 dream ! pics: http://www.bimmersport.co.nz/forums/index....showtopic=16766 Once again, congrats and welcome! Now hurry up and show us some pics!

I love the reaction I get from turbo drivers when they realize they can't pull away or some cases keep up ! I love how I am always below the radar and virtually invisible to boy racers and police alike. But the thing I truly love most about my current BMW, is the black leather interior with subtle M3 stripes in just the right places perfectly nick named after my favorite Star Wars character Darth Vader... all to which add up to one overall message: This car means business! In my opinion, the best M3 seats to date and one of the coolest interiors to be found in any sports car (and yes, this is the view I had before purchasing one). <3 BMW!

I really love both models, each have their merits and I really don't think this sort of discussion has much weight as I don't see how you can compare the two side by side. My reasoning: E30 is a "raw" car, not many features but simply a great ride. Or as many have put it "great to just throw around" E36 is a "luxury sports car", packed with features (still a stunning ride but perhaps less "feel"). It's kinda like saying, "that hammer is sooo much better than a jigsaw or vice versa" (or something along those lines). Now if we were comparing E36 to E46 it might be a different story. And when it comes to looks, thats just a matter of preference... I personally think both models can look absolutely stunning! I will say though, E36 M3 interior is hands down one of the nicest I have seen in ANY sports car!

haha, not taking it personal at all... everyone is allowed their opinion. What I am getting at is for one, this is a guys "welcome" thread. And two, it's a pointless argument to even discuss... by all means though, carry on...
-
Right on the ball Matt, pretty much took the words out of my mouth (apart from the whole own another M3 / M5 bit hehe) .
-
LOL listen to you guys... After all these (forgive me) pointless comments, I would not be surprised if the guy never comes back to these forums again. It's all a matter of taste... pointless arguing the point. I for one pretty much walk backwards every time I leave my car... just love how it looks, I also love how E30's look (especially when done up nicely). If you are going to be dissing ugly cars, surely you can steer away from OUR BMW's.... We should not be dissing each others rides is what I am getting at . P.S. Welcome mate, enjoy your new car!

Well, we need 1 more to get a bit of a discount (which will probably cover the shipping costs to everyone homes). Has anyone done a "mass" shipment like this before? I think ricstarr is right, if one of us is to buy 10+ units it will cost over 1.5k... (well over the $400 customs mark) and hence we will get charged for each one >.<. Unless someone can think of a way around it, seems like it's still not looking worth it... Will leave thread running for another week, if we can't find a solution I will probably just order a set directly from site. I can still get 3 sets (not umnitza) for $140 each if someone is looking for a cheaper option that has been tried and tested.
-
At the rate we are going... looks like it's everyone for himself . We need over 10 members to get a discount!
-
Yep, my point exactly... Hopefully thats good new for the resale value of e36 m3's in the near future !
-
LOL we had a small drag in the rain but were both spinning in 1st 2nd and 3rd lol... will try to convince matt to give me a go on a dry day when he tunes her up

What do you expect from a place where petrol is cheaper than water? But seriously, some insane sh*t goes on around the streets of the middle east (especially the gulf countries where there is truck loads of money). Rich kids are above the law and use the streets as their personal playgrounds.
-
Righto, well there is not much point in a group buy unless we get more than 10 (or else we will not be making a saving). I can't wait for too much longer as I really want a set so I will leave the thread running till Sunday for people to confirm. If we don't have 10+ confirmed by then I think everyone might as well just buy off the website.
-
Import laws are changing end of this year mate, due to emmission laws I think E36 models will be un registrable?
-
For starters, I have read up a bit and these definitely seem to be the way to go. They pretty much last 5 times as long as the competition and are the brightest out there, plus they are fairly popular so I think we can't really go wrong with them. I am definitely keen, price difference is minimal really... ( I am assuming cost includes shipping) Right, I will edit the main post for people who are keen. Hopefully we can get quite a few on board and get ourselves a bit of a discount! If I put your name on the list, please confirm you are still keen!
-
Welcome! Yep, have met the previous owner and seen the car up front. Very nice . Hope to see you at next meet!
-
Yep, very very expensive camera
