While working on my Ex Japan E39 Touring, I noticed that the cheap plastic part under the numberplate ( item 28 in image below ) comes off easy, and the car is painted behind it, and the numberplate looks heaps better in the larger frame - and a Europlate would fit too! My question is, once I remove the plastic part, as there a mount to fit the numberplate on with ? Because all there is behind that is two large holes that would end up right in the middle of the plate! Items 23 thru 26 hold part 28 in place - perhaps they can hold a mount to line up with the plate screw holes? Maybe Ray or Brent have a NZ new car they could check / sell me the mount from ?? Thanks

See details on Trademe 540i Sedan Price Lowered to $ 8500 This has to be the lowest price 540i with 100k's on it ??? Any questions, feel free to email me at [email protected] or Text / Ring 021 444 015

Thanks for that Grant, I'll grab some relays and wire thru those, should be the cheapest option ! Any commercial kit is just gonna be some relays in a plastic box anyway I guess !!
-
Cheers - so you are saying your is just spliced direct to taillights, no special 'box of tricks' ??

I am looking at fitting a towbar to the touring for summer, to tow the pop-top Last year I towed it with the 540i sedan, but noticed that I got bulb errors on the display, due to the trailer wiring. It was wired by the previous owner, and was just tapped into the rear lights etc. I understand that BMW do make a special module to isolate the trailer wiring, but I guess it its $$$$ ?? I have done some research on the US and UK forums, and have come across this system : Modulite Has anybody had experience with this or the BMW unit? I notice the turn and stop output seems to be tied - is this only for USA cars that flash the stop lights for turn signal? Any auto sparkies on here who would care to comment ? TIA, Greg

7/8 volts should be enough to trigger a standard relay - just wire the aerial through a relay, with the REM wire to the relay coils .

Oh yes the old Smith & Smith ......... They replaced the screen in my Touring - afterwards you could not talk in the car due to wind noise. After two more attempts, it is 'better' but not as quiet as it used to be. Sick of / too scared to take back again, as they are rough as guts - lots of black gunk left on the panels of the car etc. Next time I need a screen, I'll be asking Insurance co if there is anywhere else I can go.

While cleaning my E39 530i Touring I noticed this nasty tire wear and marking : Probably caused by the inner guard - as it seems that at some stage it has come away and been worn thru by the tire - possible sign of a historic frontal crash ? Anyway, while looking at the inner guard, I noticed this sensor floating loose between the front bumper and the inner guard -- Does anybopdy recognise it ? Whereabouts should it be located ? Thanks

12 of the finest (unintentional) double-entendres ever aired on British TV and radio: 1. Ted Walsh - Horse Racing Commentator - 'This is really a lovely horse. I once rode her mother.' 2. New Zealand Rugby Commentator - 'Andrew Mehrtens loves it when Daryl Gibson comes inside of him.' 3. Pat Glenn, weightlifting commentator - 'And this is Gregoriava from Bulgaria . I saw her snatch this morning and it was amazing!' 4. Harry Carpenter at the Oxford-Cambridge boat race 1977 - 'Ah, isn't that nice. The wife of the Cambridge President is kissing the Cox of the Oxford crew.' 5. US PGA Commentator - 'One of the reasons Arnie (Arnold Palmer) is playing so well is that, before each tee shot, his wife takes out his balls and kisses them. Oh my god !! What have I just said??' 6. Carenza Lewis about finding food in the Middle Ages on 'Time Team Live' said: 'You'd eat beaver if you could get it.' 7. A female news anchor who, the day after it was supposed to have snowed and didn't, turned to the weatherman and asked, 'So Bob, where's that eight inches you promised me last night?' Not only did HE have to leave the set, but half the crew did too, because they were laughing so hard! 8. Steve Ryder covering the US Masters: 'Ballesteros felt much better today after a 69 yesterday.' 9. Clair Frisby talking about a jumbo hot dog on 'Look North' said: 'There's nothing like a big hot sausage inside you on a cold night like this. ' 10 Mike Hallett discussing missed snooker shots on 'Sky Sports': 'Stephen Hendry jumps on Steve Davis's misses every chance he gets.' 11. Michael Buerk on watching Philippa Forrester cuddle up to a male astronomer for warmth during BBC1's UK eclipse coverage remarked: 'They seem cold out there. They're rubbing each other and he's only come in his shorts.' 12.. Ken Brown commentating on golfer Nick Faldo and his caddie Fanny Sunneson lining-up shots at the Scottish Open: 'Some weeks Nick likes to use Fanny; other weeks he prefers to do it by himself.'

Thanks, yes I think that is it. Seems that for a used car of value less than 50K, it is better to go with the IRD 70cents Thanks again.

I may need to use my private car for business use - the new 2010 FBT laws are so tight, it looks like I might be best to use the reimbursement system ( up to 5000km per year at specfied rate ) IRD say I can reimburse at their rate of 70 cents, or at the AA rate I went to the AA website, but they will not give the info as I am not a member Is anybody on here an AA member, who would be willing to go to the AA site and download and post their rates sheet ? Thanks

Easy Job - Jack up the front drivers side and remove wheel. Remove the inner plastic guard - wil be either clips or screws, depending if it has been off before The tank is tucked in between the wheel and the drivers door - the motor is an easy unplug swap, and the seal is even easier - just pull the motor upwards and swap out the seal. Be a little careful, as the bottle can be brittle due to age and can crack if you are rough, especially where the motor mounts. If your E39 has the intensive wash motor / tank ( attached to the drivers side strut tower, under the bonnet ) and you do not use intensive wash, you can swap the motors if you would rather not buy a new motor. Best of luck
