E39 540i Brake Message
camera doctor replied to camera doctor's topic in Brakes, Suspension & Steering
Thanks for all the help. I have just gone out to the car to check myself and found the wiring to the front sensor unplugged -- I am guessing the mechanic got side-tracked and did not reconnect it. Two worrying things there are, I would think that should have been high on his lst of things to check, and secondly the other wiring ( I am guessing to do with the ABS sensor?? ) was loose too, and could easily got tangled into the moving wheel, and caused all sorts or damagerous and/or expensive issues! All better now, but I'l be having a word to the mechanic ! -
E39 540i Brake Message
camera doctor replied to camera doctor's topic in Brakes, Suspension & Steering
Still having this issue, new rear sensor arrived and fitted, but message has not gone away. I wonder if the front sensor is gone thru too, but the mechanic reckons the front were OK? How else can I get rid of the message on the OBC ?? Can messages be removed / reset with a scanner ? Thanks -
Thanks Glenn, Whereabouts is it located do you know? Is it a major dash out job ?

Hi all, 2003 E39 530i Touring Travelled to CHCH yesteday ( 160km each way ) and noticed the climate control is not working right. Even when set to coldest ( 16 Degrees ) it seems to be pumping out hot air. The only way I can control temp is the manual dial between the centre dash vents. With the AC on, I do get cold from the dash vents, but Hot from windscreen and feet vents. If I put the AC on, set to coldest, and button pressed to feet, I still get really hot air to my feet! I wonder if the hot water valve is jammed open? The temp gauge is sitting in the middle, so I don't think the whole car is running too hot. Any ideas where to start? Is this something the dealers can diagnose with scanner? My closest dealer is CHCH, but there is an auto sparkie local with generic scanner - would that tell him enough ? Cheers Greg

As pictured, I ordered this about 3 months ago, and it was held up in the post - arrived yesterday, BUT in the meantime I have upgraded to a 2003 530i Touring, so this does not fit! It does work, as I used it once on my E39 540i ( which is for sale ) to test it out. There is one on Trademe for $60 , my special price here for BS members is $45 inc freight It will be going on Trademe for $60 if no takers Cheers PM me if interested

While my 1996 E39 540i was on the hoist getting brakes done, my mechanic noticed LOTS of movement in the rear suspension - upon closer checks the bushes are very worn / leaky / cracked. The car got a VINZ WOF in Decemeber and has done less than 500 ks since !! Anyway, my question is, how do the bushes etc come - is there a 'Kit' or do i need to order each one by one ? The Balljoint on the top control arm is loose too - does it come as the complete arm? Any sponsors or dealers on here wanting to quote me some prices? ( Vin Ends in BW70679 ) Thanks

My 1996 540I E39 had the message 'Check Brake Linings' Took car to my usual spanner monkey, and he has replaced the rear pads and checked the fronts ( they are OK ) Apparently the new pads do not have the sensor wiring, so he has just removed the old wire, but the message has not reset, and still comes up on the OBC. Does the car need to be plugged into a scanner and reset ? Help thanks.

I have CMRADR on my 540i - as per my Avatar It advertises my business - Camera Repair. I do get lots of comments, not sure how much business, but with all advertising, you just need to get your name out there! I also have PUG GTI on my 206GTi , it is for sale on TradeMe at the moment, I want to buy another busines related plate for that car, so am trying to sell the PUG one to finance that ! ( PM me if interested! ) I agree that they are too expensive now, mine were bought when they were a LOT cheaper !!
