  1. I have just got a letter from NZ Customs about a parcel of camera parts from USA I know there has been a lot of questions on here regarding payment of GST and fees on imported goods, so I thought I'd post this scan of the letter from NZ Customs which explains it fairly clearly. Of course if you are GST registered, you claim the GST back, but you still are up for the transaction fee and Biosecurity Levy. So, as has been mentioned before, if you keep your purchases under NZ $400 they will go straight thru, as the GST is under the $60 level. Customs.pdf
  2. Will not be seen in a BMW, unless you count the Mini, as it is for front wheel drive Link To Story How many gears do you need ????
  3. Good decision, they look best Red
  4. I had dry join issues with the ABS / DSC module on my 530i recently. It randomly displayed either one or two fault indicators on the dash, usually after car sat after a drive, and the heat from manifold heated up the module, with no cooling air passing. Even though I deal with soldering and electronics all day, I decided to send this job out, as Web research said the job was tricky, with hard to remove sealant and very high temperature soldering needed - as a new module is somewhere near $1500 I felt best to leave the job to the experts, and I really did not want to risk my life with bad brakes I sent mine to www.anythingelectronic.co.nz , although they do not deal with public, so you will need to send it via trade. I believe there are businesses in Auckland who do this job also - do a search on this forum as it has been mentioned before. Best of luck.
  5. You could try a solid state relay which is more likely to action with the lower voltage. For example Jaycar Or run a wire all the way to the front park bulb ?
  6. Nah - that'll be no good - goes on wrong side of car !!!  Could not resist sorry
  7. Maybe a little tight, but could you Fed-Ex part ex Germany or USA ? I have got parts ex USA by DHL or FedEx or EMS in 2-3 days Will not be cheap though .....
  8. I came from a 540i Sedan to a 530i Touring. Although the 530i does not have the 'throw you back in your seat' acceleration of the V8, I still find it a more pleasant car to drive - it corners a lot better, so overall you get there faster as you do not need to slow down in the corners as much I chased a Subaru B4 Sedan home in the wet from Tekapo to Timaru last week, lots of twisty bits etc, and I was easily able to keep up with the 4WD Subby, in fact at times I wished he did not slow me down My Touring has done 150k's and still feels nice and tight and does not rattle etc, they are a quality bit of kit as far as build and NVH levels are concerned - just wait till you need to take interior panels off, then you realize how well bolted together they are Best of luck with youur search.
  9. Postie just delivered this Christmas Project :D
  10. Darwin Award candidate ??
  11. Have you considered a Focus ? Mate had one, awesome wee handler
  12. I have found a 'faulty' unit in the States, so got it for 'reasonable' price. I will just wire the switches to the circuit of my current remote. Luckily it is the later version that has illuminated switches too, so it will look factory :D It is in transit now, will post once fitted.
  13. Loving the overhead warning lamps - so Eighties - go Micheal Knight B)
  14. Mine came from Richard at gagdets for you also. The USA sellers are cheaper ...BUT .. most want US $50 + postage, whihc brings price in line with Richard, plus if if fails like mine did, at least you have a NZ contact. I too would be surprised if your car has Bluetooth, but I guess the previous owner may have fitted it. I am going thru the motions to get Bluetooth on my E39 at the moment, and it is gonna cost in the region of $1000 for ULF version 13 based system.
  15. I have the DICE unit in my E39 1st unit kept locking up and displaying ' Detached' but was quickly replaced no charge. I use with iphone 4, and it gets the 'imcompatible' message, but just ingore that. I do find that there is a real sequence to follow, if you plug in before you start the car, the iphone goes into 'accessory' mode and you cannot select tracks via the iPhone, but if you plug it in later you can ( Even though there are DIP switches on the DICE unit to control this, they do not seem to help! ) The other thing I get, is if iPhone is not on shuffle, when you press the steering wheel buttons, you get a pause, then a few seconds of the song you are already listening to, THEN it changes to next track ! Finally, if you have Nav, when use use the NAV rotary dial, it changes tracks But, I guess, since it allows 2010 tech to be used in a 2002 car, it works pretty well!
  16. I want to integrate my garage door opener to my 530i, so I am looking for a Homelink UGDO panel. I know the unit will not work in NZ due to our doors being different frequency than USA, but what I intend to do is modify the unit to operate my existing door remote, so really all I am after is the housing and switches, i do not need the circuitry to work, as I will be removing it !! Does anyone have one of these by a longshot in a wrecked car ?? Johno, Brent, Ray ?? Thanks

    1996 540i

I would say if someone is genuine they will come and view the car and negoiate from there, therefore advert with ono is the way I go. Specally as you are open to swaps / trades, a $1 auction would just get messy ! Good Luck.

    1996 540i

Not wanting to rain on your parade, but you may need to be flexible with the price a wee bit. I sold my 1996 540i recently with 110ks for $ 7500 and my brother sold his 1996 with 105ks last weekend for $6250 Petrol prices make these a little harder to sell Good luck with the sale thou
  20. I think you missed my point Westy I was not pissing and moaning about the work, rather asking if anybody else had noticed the cutural difference in that tourists and immigrants seem to have a common foible that they do not take NO for an answer and keep pushing until I give in
