Is it just me, or do other on here who deal with the public find that people ( and I've noticed it is often as Paul Henry would put it " Non NZers ) do not seem to understand NO !! At this time of the year I am VERY busy - worked till 10pm last night, back at 6am this morning .... But I am getting phone calls wanting work done Urgently, to which at the moment I have to say "NO " but they just keep pushng !!!! Take the tourist who rung me early this week, and I told him I could NOT repair his camera and he should just buy a cheap one to finish his trip, and low and behold, 12 hours later he knocks on my door after driving thru the night !!! Tell me it is not just me ??? Been at this for 22 yrs, always had a bit of this, but this year is reallllly bad

The ABS / Traction Control lights have been coming up on my 530i , seemed to be when the car was warm and left sitting, so I guess heat was coming off the exhaust manifold and causing dry solder joins in the ABS module to fault. A quick Google and look thru BMW forums seemed to confirm this, especially for the M54 engine. So, I took the ABS module off and sent it up to Anything Electronic in Nelson on Monday They recieved it Tuesday, and late Tuesday I got an email from them to say that they had repaired the unit, and since it was under warranty, it was no charge :D Obviously, the car dealer I bought the car off must have already had the unit serviced. But what great service and honesty !! If they had charged me, I would have been none the wiser! Unit arrived back this morning, yet to be fitted to car and tested, but they said they fopund a fault, so here's hoping no more dash lights If you need module repairs, I would certtianly recommend them : Anything Electronic They are 'Trade Only' so you need to send units to them via a workshop.

E39 MP3 player wiring via cassette deck
camera doctor replied to RustyItalian's topic in Audio & In Car Entertainment
I did that on my 540i, now sold. Just dismantle a tape and take the tape out of it. Put the bank case in the headdeck. If it comes up tape error, just toggle the mode switch in out out of tape mode. You will find the level is low, and you will need to turn volume up, which can be a pain when you go back to radio, and the volume is too loud ! What I did was wired in a line driver between the MP3 and the tape wires, adjusted to match the volume. Good luck -
Oh, what about one of those racks that tie to the rear of the car without need for a towbar ? That way you can use it on other cars too, and not have to worry about cutting your bumper for the towbar, and running your shin into the towbar when you are getting stuff out of the boot Like This Trademe

Oh, and you will need to buy one of the wiring interfaces they sell ( $150 ) or make one yourself, which is what I did, or you will get OBC errors when you tow. .. Or you could buy the genuine BMW Trailer Interface for $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ :P

Towbar Plus I am sure there are plenty of others

Do you think it is for real ? Somehow the pics seem photoshopped to me ??

I think you answered your own question! I replaced bushes and arms etc in my 540i and got parts ex USA via Ebay - even with the extreme freight charges total cost was still a fraction of anything I could find here. I would have preferred to buy in NZ, but costs were too much to ignore, even at 'Trade' prices.

anyone able to flash/modify the computer?
camera doctor replied to fatjoez's topic in Electrical system
No - the ibus is only for some units, mainly entertainment and dash OBD2 port is more for diagnostics and reading and resetting of engine ECU errors etc - Navcoder is not that type of software, for OBD2 you need a GT1 or clone system. -
anyone able to flash/modify the computer?
camera doctor replied to fatjoez's topic in Electrical system
Yes the bulb error is easily removed with software called Navcoder, written by BSport member Jochen. It does not have the custom speed display feature though - I guess that involves some coding to read the speed from the speedo sensor and writing it to the MID - similar to what the DICE iPod interface does. If you are keen, you can get a copy of Navcoder and build or buy the necesary interface and do it yourself Navcoder Website -

Where are you ? I can help, but need to know where you are ???? -
My 206 came only with one remote key, that was all. I did however get the credit card for purchase of extra keys - you may have trouble without it, may pay to ring Peugeot parts and ask if they will supply key off VIN number, best to know before it is urgent I guess the car was ex Japan ? Quite common for only one key to be supplied unfortunatly

Took our caravan for a WOF yesterday, and the inspector suggested that I get under it and wirebrush and treat the chassis / drawbar to stop the surface rust getting any worse. I have seen other forums and websites talking about POR 15 rust preventive paint, and wondered if anybody on here had experience with it ? It appears to dry superhard and is less likely to be effected by stones flicking up off the roads. Would I need to remove all the old paint first for example? or just wirebrush / wirewheel the worst of the rust and paint over ? Any experience / recommendation would be appreciated. Thanks

Went for a walk last night, noticed the 'average' new cars passing, and was pondering, what is gonna happen in 5 - 10 years time when the only used cars available to the 'hooded fraternity' are cross-over vehicles - seems to be the only thing selling new at the moment! - how will they look lowered to the weeds

WOW !! When I did metalwork at school, we made Keyrings, Fruit Bowl and a Coffee Table  Nothing as cool as this  More schools should be like yours - might keep students interested and keep them coming each day !!

In my personal experience, from when I had a situation with an abusive seller, Trademe Admin seem to side with the seller ! I guess this is because it is the seller whom they get paid by. Only when I pointed this out to them and how poor that was, they finally apologised to me and said they would contact the seller and tell them to stop ! But, in your case, I think the fair thing to all involved would have been for TMe to remove ALL bids and then email you to say the auction was bascially re-starting and give you the option of bidding again. As you warned, I am sure we have all stopped looking at auctions once our top bid is surpassed - thanks for the heads-up

If you are unlucky, the two dishes ( home and bach ) may have different LNBs meaning a setting change when you swap decoder from place to place. But that is not a biggie, and once you have done it once, and written the settings down, you will be able to do it in a couple of minutes. The again, you may be lucky and both will be the same, and it will just be plug and play
