  1. Due to the continuous heavy rain of Friday the paddock, and access to it, are no longer in a suitable condition for this weekend’s grass autocross. This event has been cancelled. All attempts to have the venue available for a re-scheduled date are being made.
  2. The block used in the F1 cars was normally a 2nd hand , stock M10 one sleeved down to 1500cc. Apparently they liked to use blocks with high mileage on them as anything that lasted that long was unlikely to have any casting defects, also the large number of heat cycles mean they were nicley stress relieved. There is also an legend that they used to store them outside and urinate on them
  3. Sorry, Word has been passed down from higher up, that you will not be allowed to race in open top car.
  4. Sorry about the delay, I'm waiting on the club scrutineer to get back to me, his initial reponse was it should be OK provided that your head is lower than the top of the windscreen. But - apparently this has opened a can of worms and he's checking with the Motorsport NZ technical officer.
  5. Open top car should be OK but I'll check. PPC Club membership is $50, but membership of any Motorsport NZ affilated club is OK
  6. Date: 23 May 2010 Time: Documentation From 10.00, Racing ASAP!! Venue: 127 Hermitage Road, Waiuku. (Signs from Main Pukekohe Waiuku Road) http://maps.google.co.nz/maps?f=q&sour...mp;t=h&z=17127 hermitage road - Google Maps Cost: $30 Requirements: MSNZ Club registered member, Helmet, Overalls, Fire Extinguisher as per normal, 100% cotton work overalls OK. For those who click the link, it is obvious to see we have a fair amount of room here and the course is going to be fast and fun, with a little tight bits thrown in the mix for good measure. I have yet to stand in the actual paddock, but can confirm the surrounding is smooth. We're checking but the requirement to be club member may be dropped if it's your first event. Update Pukekohe Car Club now allow anyone interested in having a go to compete in 1 PCC Autocross event before requiring club membership!!!!. All other safety requirements apply but this makes it a little easier for people to come and have a go
  7. No it was FWD running a stock SOHC motor, he had a DOHC motor & LSD to go into it but ran out of time to get it in before the event. He now needs to come up with a new plan as it may be a write off.
  8. Ford Laser #144, actually "muppet" was probably a bit mean. It was his second ever rally and the first for his codriver. He went a bit wide (which after the WRC cars have been through is the the apex of the corner) and under steered into a bank. I imagine he was getting a bit tired and the tyres were well past their best by then It's still a bit of a pain, instead of the team sitting down for a beer together we were running around with trailers, by the time we got to prizegiving everybody else was half cut.
  9. The muppet put it into a bank halfway through stage 16 Game over
  10. I'm service crew for car 144 in the PBMR which follows the WRC on Saturday
  11. I don't know that that's it. If I run the 2002 all the way forward on the trailer, you can tell that there's way too much weight on the draw bar as the E39 has it's nose way in the air. If I sit the 2002 back a bit it's better, too far back and it's crap again. On the other hand it's nothing that I can't live with, more a case of I get to 105-110ish, get a wind gust and think perhaps I'm going a bit fast.
  12. I've tried the rally car in a number of positions on the trailer, some positions are really bad but I can't seem to find a sweet spot. On the other hand I'm not surposed to be going faster than 90 km/hr anyway so in theory I should never have a problem
  13. I use my 528 E39 to tow my 2002 rallycar. Rated towing capacity is 1975 kg (braked). Performance wise it's OK but there is something in the aerodynamics of the two vehicles that can causes swaying when the speed gets up over 100km. I'm fairly sure the swaying is unique to my setup as it was never a problem when I towed the 2002 using a Hilux ute, it's also hasn't been a problem when I've towed a Honda Civic or a MR2 behind the E39 on the the same trailer. Got to love the (lack of) aerodynamics of the 2002's
  14. Sorry - the event has been cancelled, too much rain overnight and this morning.
  15. Hi, PCC are having an autocross on Sunday 14th at Kiwi Rd, Waiuku. Map Event Regulations If the weather looks iffy then check the PCC website http://www.pukekohecarclub.co.nz/ Go on tell your significant other it's a Valentine's day outing Craig

    My 1971 2002 Build

If you decide to sell it - give me a call. If you get the master cylinder(s) right they stop fairly well without boosters. (I don't run boosters on my 2002)

    My 1971 2002 Build

That should work - I'll PM you with address & phone number. What are your plans for the M10?

    My 1971 2002 Build

Looks like you've done the diff exactly the same as I did the E30 one in my 2002, but if you're ever in the Pukekohe area you're welcome to drop in and have a look. Carburettors on a M44 could be tricky, I think you would still need an ECU of some type to run the ignition as there's no mechanical advance.
  19. Not signficantly, the volume of the combustion chamber is around 55cc (estimated from cylinder volume and compression ratio). So if I removed a whole cc of material the compression ratio would go from 10 to 9.93. I haven't measured how much material I removed yet, but it could only be a small fraction of a cc.
  20. I believe so, I've gound away the damaged area on the head. Surprisingly little material had to be removed. The piston looks fine and the top ring rotates freely. (Score 1 to a JE forged piston). I've bent the intake valve so I'll replace that and it's rocker plus the head gasket etc.
  21. So, I had the throttle body off the 2002, which is kind of tricky as I use an E30 318 manifold with a 325 throttle body and dropped one the the nuts the hold it on. Not surprising you're working blind on the tips of your fingers. After looking for it for about 15 minutes I gave up and assumed it was either hung up in the chassis or I'd kicked it across the garage under the other 2002. Wrong! It was hiding in the air cleaner, so I go for a drive around the block - All good and set up to check the timing, I was just getting a spanner to tweak the dizzy and the mother of all banging noises starts. The picture shows where I found the nut.!
  22. I was more refering to the architecture. IIRC one of the developers for Half Life 2 was from this part of the world
  23. I'm more reminded of Half life 2
  24. I've always thought a Compact with a S14 would be interesting, pity it's such an expensive engine.
