  1. Hi, Looking for some 1981-83 E21 front hubs as I'm looking to change the front calipers on the 2002 from my current grafted on E30 setup, to one that uses Volvo 240 4 pot calipers.
  2. I waterblast the 2002 after every gravel event, generally I also have to clean the mud up off the drive afterwards with a shovel and a wheelbarrow
  3. Have you seen this site http://www.firstfives.org/ ?
  4. Ok I was recalling that there was an issue when I looked at putting one of my 2002 engines into Alice (E30) before I sold her to Westy. I'm running an E12 block in my 2002. There are a couple of minor differences between it and a 2002 block (ie dipstick location) but if you can get an e30 block into a 2002 it should also go into a E12. You may also want to note that the E30 uses a smaller clutch than the E12, you'll probably want to change the flywheel. Have a look at the www.2002faq.com forum, lot's of people have used E30 bits for their 2002's their experiences should be also applicable to E12's
  5. Should bolt up Ok, I've done it the opposite way (a 318 manifold on to a 2L M10) You may have to also change the front coolant housing as the E30 one may interfere on the carbs You'll probably also have to change the sump and the oil pump. Note the distributors of E12 & 2002 rotate the opposite direction to E30's If you're going to use the E30 dizzy then you'll have to grab the E30 ignition module and associated wiring. (probably a worthwhile exercise) If you're planning on using the E12 dizzy then you'll have to change the cam shaft. I'm not certain but the E30 block also may lack some of the threaded bosses required to attach the engine mounts.

    The bastard child.

Question from Sean "Is this like Pimp My Ride and I get Alice back when you're done?". (For those not in the know, Sean is my 15 year old son, who used to drive Alice in motokhana's before she became Westy's)

    m3 diff swap

Try http://www.diffsonline.com That's where I got the 4.45 ratio for the 2002. After talking to him Dan seems like a straight up guy. However it's not going to be cheap.
  8. Agreed but the point I was making was that fractions of milliamps are insignficant compared to the storage capacity of a fully charged battery. Now if the leakage current was in the amp range.....
  9. To put it in contex. I assume that your car has battery rated around 90 A-hr. This implies a fully charged battery should be able to supply 0.15 mA for 90/0.15 e-3 hrs or 600000 hours or 68 years. ( self discharge in the battery will be more)

    JiB's POS

It now appears I didn't finish the day scot free either. CamB - the oil leak appears to be the head gasket leaking from the area where the oil gallery in the block connects to the head - I'll have to pull the head this weekend. Pukekohe Park raceway also seems to be a cosmic vortex which destroys urethane parts from Ireland Engineering. Earlier in the year it was a steering coupling, Sunday it was the left hand engine mount. I thought I was getting some strange vibrations in left hand turns, it turns out the urethane has pulled away from the mounting plate. I think I'll go back to OEM rubber.

    JiB's POS

Here's the in car footage (sorry the quality wasn't as good as I hoped), JiB is the black dot disappearing into the distance on the first lap. Watching Carol pull out, pass me & then disappear over the horizon was a bit demoralizing - but hey she did end up winning the class.
  12. That's not a gravel skid - this is a gravel skid
  13. Try Metric Mechanic in the states they maybe able to help http://www.metricmechanic.com
  14. No but I had the 15's on at the time, part of the discussion involved that a 14" rally tyre has about the same or slightly bigger rolling radius as a 15" tarmac tyre so the car height wouldn't change
  15. When they certed my rally car we had a bit of a discussion about wheel sizes as I use 14" on gravel & 15" on tarmac. As a result he put both wheel sizes on the plate.
  16. Hi I'm after part 2 in the attached drawing. It's for a E36 316 but the part seems to be common to all E36's RealOem Link
  17. or Have you ever seen Lorraine?
  18. Sounds like a problem with the cold start injector and/or the thermo time switch. Either the Haynes or the Bentley manuals will tell you how to trouble shoot them. Basically Make sure engine is cold below about 25° Disable the ingition by removing the main relay Remove the cold start injector, aim into a transparent jar have someone enage the starter while you observe the spray pattern. Should be a nice cone that goes for 8 seconds. No spray = replace thermo time switch bad spray = replace cold start injector Warning! Will Robertson! high pressure petrol + flame or spark = big boom! Please be careful
  19. Reminds me of one of my student days while at UCLA. My flatmate had this heap of sh*t 70's Ford Thunderbird which was giving her problems, Being a good Kiwi joker I volunteered to look at it for her. It seem like the carb had some crap in it so I pulled the top off it and had a poke around and cleaned out best I could. Now every hose of this thing was perished and it oozed oil and transmission fluid from every gasket. I assume that the fuel line cracked because when I fired it up I get smoke coming out of the grill. Oh f**k! thinks I and run upstairs to grab a fire extinguisher out of our apartment. I should point out that all this is going on in the basement garage of a 10 apartment complex. I run into our apartment and grab a fire extinguisher the landlord at left there 2 days earlier and turn to run out again. Deanna asks " what's the problem?" Me - "small issue with your car" Deanna - " Should I ring the fire department?" I stop for a second on the way out and reply "Yes" At that point she panics! So we ended up with 6 fire engines including one of those big long ones that also steer from the back, All neighbours are evacuated, Thunderbird is toast. I'm now on first names basis with some firemen and I've learned just how hard it is to put out a car fire. Apparently the block can store enough heat to restart the fire, so they hosed it down for at least 30 mins after they got the fire out. The upside was the car was insured for more than it was worth and I'd actually done her a favour (she was planning to sell it away)

    Laptop experiences

if you're wanting to run Pro E then you may want to add a Quadro graphics card to your spec, this just about limits you to Dell & Hp's "workstation" class laptops
