    m20b25 head

Have just done the same job. Yes you can take the head off with both manifolds in place. Watch out for the spring loaded breather under the inlet manifold - change the O-rings on this before you refit it. Oh, and get someone to help you lift it off the block as it will be heavy - same goes for refitting. While you have the front off the engine do the water pump as well.

    M40 Flatspot

Your problem seems similar to one i had on my M40 1.8 race car. Basically it wouldn't rev out and hesitated and sort of died around 4500-5000 rpm. Problem - a worn camshaft. Fitted a new cam and it was sweet as a nut. There are plenty of people on this forum with spare camshafts as we have fitted modified ones in our race cars - the Fox has four from memory!!!!
  3. Please put me down for the engine mounts - cheers Bruce
  4. Keep it on the throwing stars Graham. The turbine covers were standard on some cars in other markets but our cars were specified with the throwing stars which i believe wern't standard fit until the 91 model year. There is an option of 9.5" rears but they would only be on special order at $$$$$$$$I agree with your sentiments on value and timewasters - particularly the prat from Auckland who drove both cars and didn't bother calling back. Been there before!!!!! I'm not even advertising my car now because it is too good and i would rather keep it than see it go to someone who doesn't appreciate what a real ///M car is.
  5. True true. I believe you have someone looking at it tomorrow - good luck.
  6. Hi GrahamSelling so soon!!! We never did get together for a photo shoot. My old girl is still tucked up under a cover in the garage and gets pulled out on fine days. Good luck with the sale. For all you watchers, this is a great car so get bidding. If you don't like white then you can buy my Macau Blue example which is the sister car to Grahams.
  7. I can vouch for all of that, it is an awesome car.
  8. Sent you message - no reply. PM me [email protected] with bank details. Bruce
  9. I'll take the E30 Gas Bonnet stay. Edit (bravo): removed excessive use of quote function.

    BMW Part Sale

M Tech 1 Steering Wheel - what size and how much please?
  11. Hi Paul. I believe the doner car was was a dark blue 530i that was a runner. The owner just gave both cars to Bavarian to do the conversion.
  12. Believe the $35K. The donor was a genuine left hook M5 that they couldn't register. Ernst and Robbie worked for months putting this car together and it is a credit to them.

    15' weaves

Too good for a race car David. Would look good on my new runner, an 89 NZ new 325i. Think i might have a bid? Sold the 320i by the way.
  14. The M40 is a simple engine. The ticking noise is prbably a lifter and the rough running could be moisture in the cap. Take it out and give it an Italian tune up i.e. a good thrashing - if that doesn't work then as James said your freindly mechanic is the man for the job.
  15. Yes true, well overdue. Hi Paul. Amazing that after all these years these two cars now reside withing an hours drive to each other.
  16. That really surprises me to hear the car needed so much work. I am glad that you now own the car and it is being treated properly, good on you. Will look forward to your visit. Cheers Bruce
  17. Sad to hear that. Bavarian Motors (Ernst) used to service the car for Jock and he did my timing chain. He is also an expert at setting the tappets so could be worth a shot. Who is doing the work on it at the moment. Did you have to replace the rear shocks or was it just accumulators and bushes etc?
  18. Will pass on the touring Martyn but could be tempted with a deal on a nice E30 Tech 2 M325i or an E30 M3.
  19. Hi GrahamWelcome aboard. You have a real good car there. The owner before last was the late Jock Styles who was a member of this forum. He only sold it because of an expanding family and it was bought by James Cowie who ran the Goodyear tyre shop in Taupo. He must have traded it on something else. I own the sister car to yours, a Macau Blue example which has similar milage and still runs like clock. Our cars are two of four imported by BMWNZ, 3 new and one tourist delivery. Hope to catch up one fine day. Cheers Bruce
  20. I have an 89 E30 320i 4 door auto. 160 km. Just spent a grand on the cylinder head - usual stuff, valve guides, refaced rockers etc. New WOF and it runs well. Paint is a bit stuffed in that the clear coat has lifted off the roof and is patchy on the bonnet and boot lid. Very tidy interior. Good project though. How does $1850 sound?
  21. Alls well up here. Yes the S38 is a tough old thing. As I've said before the M5 is probably the most reliable car i have ever owned. With 240 kays it is still running like a rolex as you can attest. There are the usual E34 things that I'm sure you and Paul have had to address but really, give me an E34 any day. Loved the photo of your car and Pauls beast is a good one as well. With a fresh engine, hot cam and ECU upgrade the race car is going well. Probaby slightly down on power compared to Paul and a couple of others but quick enough to set the class lap record 1.14.49 at Puke a couple of weeks ago. Not that I'm blowing my trumpet at all??????. Cheers Bruce
  22. Hi BorisWhat is a rugged engine? Bruce
  23. Car 67 running in the Castrol BMW open class is a genuine 325is - it is awesome
