  1. The car starts ok but runs like a dog for 1/2 a minute then clears - only on cold start. Work done. Engine out, head gasket change, fitted 270 camshaft, manual conversion. Still running auto computer. Any thoughts from you clever chaps. I'm thinking temp sensors etc.
  2. Battery into the boot a piece of cake with the cable from a 325i. Give Mike Mosen a call, he has a 325i in stock.
  3. Jon Have a chat to Peter Robinson, His Ravalia M3 is currently RHD - you will get an idea of the shape of the headers from his car.

    E34 M5's

There were three NZ new E34M5s, one in Macau Blue and the other two in white one of which was tourist delivery. One of the white cars ( ex the late Jock Styles) was the damaged car recently sold by Turners and has been broken up for parts. The other white car is around somewhere. I owned the Macau Blue car for eight years and it was my first BMW. It is simply the best car I have ever owned and I still regret selling it despite it sitting in the garage not being driven as it should - regularly. Believe it is in the Botany area and is looked after by Ross Lamb. They are a special car and if you can find one in good nick, grab it.
  6. Superb example and has been for sale for ages, he started at $23k, dropped it to $20k and has been at $18k for close to three weeks. Would probably find a home in my garage for $15k.
  7. Thanks David. Problem solved with a simple phone call to Ray @ HELLBM. Of course it was the yellow and black wire
  8. I have just converted a FL 318i to manual and am happy with the result. One problem is the car will only start with the auto shifter plugged in to the circuit and in park. What do I need to do to eliminate that problem. Sorry if this is old ground but I can't find a thread that covers it.

    Driveshaft

After a driveshaft to complete a manual conversion.
  10. Have heard of that one before - pull the lift pump out, get a big piece of 4 x 2 and a big hammer and beat the crap out of the dent in the tank - should sort that bit out. Can't remember if you said the fuel pressure regulator was ok?????
  11. No Jon!! The S14 has to go into an E30, or if you are really pushed into an E36

    E30 bits + spares

Jon - The AKG mounts transmit an amazing amount of transmission noise/whine into the car, I have a pair which I fitted to the race car, and took them out after backing the car out of the garage. Put the standard mounts in and now happy.
  13. Go to Classic Cover and insure it for agreed value. They are good to deal with.
  14. Hi AndrewI have just finished a long resto on my Euro spec 86 M3. It was a mess cosmetically but ok mechanically i.e. I didn't have to rebuild the engine or gearbox. I did have diff and steering rack rebuilt by Kayne Barrie. Every suspension component was stripped and recoated, every bush and link replaced and so it went on. I'm too scared to total the cost and to be honest I don't care because the car is a keeper and will be driven at every opportunity I get. So far so good - they are an amazing piece of kit and just come alive when being driven hard as you probably know. Good luck with your car, I hope you restore it and enjoy it for years to come.

    E34 M5

One and the same Sanjay - this car was the BMW NZ demonstrator. I drove it when Jock owned it and it went really well and was very tidy. I preferred this motorsport cloth interior to mine which was full grey leather. Definitely worth saving. Now the M3 is finished..................

    E34 M5

I was close - but sold the NZ new M5 to buy the M3 There were three NZ new E34 M5's and one tourist delivery. All were 3.6L. Mine (RM1762) was Macau Blue and is now in Auckland and is looked after by Ross Lamb and Gavin at BM Workshop. A great car and you have to drive one to really appreciate it as a true ///M car.
  17. Exhaust is probably the next on list as this one is a bit shagged - anyone got an Eisenmann back box laying around I'll take suggestions for something else. Centre section should survive after cat remove.
  18. One day I would like mine to sound like that
  19. Come on Foxy spill the beans - tells us what they are
  20. I have replaced every suspension bush, just about every rubber hose, front and rear sway bar links, new front lower arms etc etc think of a part and it has probably been replaced. Engine not touched except valve adjustment, a few gaskets and timing chain tensioner. Gearbox good, just rebuilt the shift linkage. Steering rack rebuilt, bit of a story there. Diff also rebuilt, all by Kayne Barrie. Very rewarding to see the end result after starting with a sad case. I pick it up from Kayne in the morning then off to Gavin for a quick check then 8 M3 6 is on the road - yeeha. Keep looking, you will find the right car, there is one out there with your name on it.
  21. PhilI'm not sure what your budget is but, if you want to buy a cheap M3 and restore it then make sure you have a large piggy bank. I have spent the last 3 years restoring an 86 M3 which was in sad shape to start with. Basically everything I stripped from the car was well worn so was replaced. As Jon stated all parts are still available except the plastic cover that fits behind the LH headlight which is M3 specific. Everything else was in stock at BMW NZ or was in my hands within 10 days ex Germany. Amazing for a 27 year old car. Alternatively the couple of recent listings on trademe for around $25k would be could buys as long as they aren't rusty. Good luck with your search.
  22. E46 M3 CSL - Want to own. E34 M5 - Have owned. E30 M3 - Do own.
