why not just fit a m54b30 or sell the car and buy a 540i sport ?? you know you have to change the whole front subframe , suspension , steering etc with the v8 swap

just got this in 2000 540i m-sports . 272k's rattly v8 engine , most likely worn timing chain guides , still drives fine just sounds like a diesel etc recent rebuilt trans , cooling system done etc . all the usual m-sport features parting out or can sell as it is still has reg and wof. in papakura [email protected] 021433600

have this nz new e34 92 525i touring tidy condition inside and outside reg has lapsed and someone put it into park while the car was moving so has no drive now. ZF 5spd auto 2.5L m50 non vanos engine runs sweet, apparently had new head fitted a few years back by team mcmillan $2500 ono as it is may part out if there is enough interest , also have a 95 540i touring parts car etc in papakura 021433600

I know the guy , very clever engineering , he didn't like the laggy power of the e39 m5 engine , so he built this , used the m30 engine as they are very strong and one of the few cast iron big block engines out there ,that can take heaps of boost. and still have nice power at low rpm etc

i have found that most modern engines if serviced and not over heated seam to hold the power outputs quite well, m50 m52 m54 m60 m62 types etc i had a 92 325i with 200k's make same power as a 96 328i with 100k's on a dyno and as above 161kw witha 540i is bang on. no so much with m20 and m30 engines, (maybe valves no sealing as well) and old afm's going off etc
