both are lsd's 3.91 ratio's e28's e24' e34's etc used both large and medium case diffs depending on the market , engine power etc the large one weighs heaps about 45kg vs 37kg less rotating mass , like having smaller wheels etc my thoughts too, seen plenty of v8 and turbo powered e30's still using med case diffs. might be pushing it a bit but kayne barrie reckons they can take quite a bit upto 400hp etc so will see how this one survives i mean the old school v8 guys rave on about a ford 9" diff , well a bmw large case diff is 8.5" and the medium case are 7.5" and have you seen the stupid small diffs they fit in turbo subaru's , nissans etc

replaced the large case 3.91 lsd for a medium case 3.91 lsd , in the e28 m535i should free up some ponies. new clutch thrust bearing , slave cylinder , replaced the brake bomb with a new one, bleed the brakes etc , check all fluids etc swapped out the e36 328i m3 gearlever for a z3 1.9L one , mucher nicer and puts the gearlever back to where is should be. brakes feel much quicker now ,\ cars pulls stronger , going for a dyno run tomorrow to check it out etc . anyone what a fully serviced tight as 3.91 large case diff

early e36 dont have that . only 325i from about 1995 had the ews key etc. all 328i had them

yes , will be the 9:1CR engine . but still wont be cheap to go turbo by the time its all sorted , budget 10k and you get some change you are doing well. i think with a e30 swap , if the engine was running ok . just lift the head , skim it a bit to get a little more compression . give it a valve grind , buy a good cam or get franklin cams to make you one , slap it all back together and go have fun the 300+ Nm or torque these things make will be more than anough for a e30. probably about 2k worth or work and parts
-
whats your budget?? rockers are ok unless you are doing bing revs or big cams. by martyns turbo e28 race car, had heaps spent on the engine etc. swap a std m30 back into it and sell off the race car . http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-554936775.htm costs heaps to get a little power out of a m30 , alpina , harteg etc had them at about 240-250hp HC pictons ,head work , cams , ecu , manifolds etc. you could go down the big capacitor route get a early m30 block 1979-1981 etc . bore it to 95mm , fit the later 86mm crank custom pistons with about 11:1 CR etc makes it a 3.65L then fit the e34 head. or just slap a turbo on a std engine to make 300hp +

i think you will have to make one up anyway as angles are different between the M20 and M50 engines etc we used a e36 mount once with spacers etc when using a getrag 240 box from a m20 engine going onto a e34 with m50 engine. but probably better to make one from scratch

got this in 96 nz new 528i e39 very rare orginal factory 5 speed manual car 260ks , but drives ok lots of money spent on it , at bm workshop over the years etc tow bar . fold down rear seats etc in papakura 021433600

i have a 4.4l one , but they have a bigger spline size for the gearbox input shaft
-
details from a merc guy i know. Hmmmm with their flakey airbag suspension and oil leaks that need the heads removed and expensive coil packs...maybe not a great idea
-
maybe take it to a engine builder , i am sure they can get it if off in 2 secs
-
i think schrick 282 or 286 is pretty comon upgrade for a m30 . new rings and bearings would be good check for bore wear . you can bore these out a bit and fit custome higher compression pistons etc
-
haha , yea all the engine wiring looms will be crumbling to bits
-
this is what you want . not locked up
-
they look like this pm me for a price
-
i think similer but front bolt mounting system is different rear covers need to be swapped also 540i and 740i diff have the same input flange as the m3 diff band some 535i have a smaller 4 bolt flange to suit a uni joint not a CV see pics here https://trademe.tmcdn.co.nz/photoserver/full/307979620.jpg

yes clutch worn out ,
-
have a z3 underbrace thing if someone whats to stiffen up the front of there e36
-
same e34 rides better , e36 bouncy etc but way more sound deadning in the e34 and e46 models etc , all adds weight though . i think the e36 chasis may be stiffer than the e34 though as a newer design
-
not a lot of value in that one mate. would need to be a 328i 5spd to be worth it
-
