they hardly ever fail . just go good second hand one . i have never had one fail on any of my e34's and have only sold a couple of the last six years . not unlike the e36 , e39 , e38 ones .
-
pretty straight forward on the old stuff. make sure the donar gearbox and flywheel have the sensor trigger pionts as per the side left side of your auto box or the car wont run. as far as the wiring goes you can remove the auto switchable wiring loom if you want (they unplug and have a couple of plug that just plug back together so it will start) . or just bypass the switch with a jumper wire etc. call me if you are not to sure 021433600

yes it was a auto . i just used the latest and lowest millage car i could find to do the hartge conversion with . but i used all the manual bits from a e34 535i except i used a lighter e28 type flywheel rather than the bulky dual mass units they normally use . the car went very well . i had it on the dyno got about 132kw with a chipped ecu but unfortunatly it pinked a little unless i ran it on 98octane . so was sold with just a std ecu about 126/8 kw .(normally about 110kw) but i think with a proper remap (which i was planning to do but then sold the car) it should get about 140kw its got a very rare hartge H5Sk head on it . also a proper hartge body kit etc .
-
yea right !!dont think pick-a-part get many e36 328i e39 528i cars in
-
yup . and yes it has a pretty much fully rebuilt engine . hartge head, std cam , valve grind , 10:1 pistons , new rings , bearings etc , gasgets etc . could do with a remap of teh ecu to get the full benefit of the engine mods 3.45lsd jamex springs with new bilsteins , full hartge body kit . (had most of the front , body kit and boot lid repainted etc) 17" by 8" bbs alloys . std exhaust , black leather interior , recaro type sport seats in front which really could do with a redye back to black (was a very dark blue). i spent a fair bit of money on it a few years ago . started with a highish spec'd Sth african 535iA with lowish k's (130,000km) and proceded to mod it with all the goodies i had .
-
i had a 99 e39 540i touring . a bit of a fast boat realy , loads of power ,very smooth , but very boring to drive . i didn't like the self leveling suspension in the rear , kicked and bouced a bit (and stupid money to repair) also the late v8's have some expensive things to go wrong , water cooled alternator, nosiy vanos units etc etc
-
probaly not as quick as your audi turbo . but at least the engine has the correct number of cylinders and drives the right wheels but the engine and trans are pretty basic units . pretty reliable , just keep up the servicing oil etc, keep them cooL!!! thats the only time these engines give any trouble when a simple thing like a failed water pump , hose , thermostat or radiator give out and people keep driving them till they are stuffed. maybe price wise about $6-7k
-
not sure where it is , but i have one still in the car . http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/E39/Seda...rbon_container/
-
nice car . also check/replace the PCV valve at the back of the inlet manifold . they fail , letting oil into the inlet manifold from the crankcase, causes white smoke at start up and a rough idle. its well documented on the net on how to fix the headrests. http://www.nmia.com/~dgnrg/page_33.htm http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/posts/5326 also a goodsite for suspension/ wheels stuff http://www.bmwe34.net/E34main.html
-
i hope its not stuffed , cracked head etc . get it sorted properly a tow is much cheaper than an engine . check viscous clutch on fan . water pump , jammed thermostat. make sure its bled properly .
-
