Tint-a-car is the best place for tints, andy pity you didnt ask here first huh?!

I have no problem with number plates and if someone has a stupid one I just laugh, its all good fun. I have B1MMER on my E36
-
Mate, its really obvious, deffinatly get them to fix it up but if its something thats barely noticable then perhaps just think about it haha but if it bothers you just pay and get it redone.. and plus tints usually look better a few weeks after they have been done they usually look sh*t when they are first done from what I have seen. Welcome aboard by the way man

Of course you wont if you have a negative attitude chief! I actually really dig the hubcaps in this case. I dont know why but it really looks good, car is mint and as Blair said, its a really good base you have to work off, dish is cool but not when everyone has it, the hubcaps puts a different twist on things. You maybe could be nanas new toy boy after old man winter died and shes trying to sugar muma you 1989 style.

I'd say just from common sense that it would only be worth importing a wreck if your car is really hard to find and new parts were scarily expensive. As you would still need to pay for all the shipping and then probably a tow truck to cart the thing around in Japan and in NZ but I mean if it worked out way cheaper than buying the parts or trying to source second hand parts locally then do it by all means.. but thats just my opinion..

Nah you havent put me off, I was actually thinking this same kinda thing last night about cars that are fixed then exported. My first car which was a E30 320i and was a Singapore export and it was the electrics on it that were stuffed it was the fact it was in pretty bad crash presumably while it was still new and was repaired quite badly and things like the suspension mounts in the rear were held in by silicone. A rare case Im sure but its made me very wary of getting a car from overseas virtually blind.. I always assumed the 1-5 grading system was a standardised system all over Japan so I'll keep a eye out for all the things mentioned.

Ahh Ron you are an utter legend! Much appreciated. I'd love some help haha.. Im not in a hurry to buy really, Im still not entirely 100% on what car I want or what cars the other two will be.. I have been watching the car prices on .tradecarview so I figured I will watch the prices on the various cars I am interested in until the NZ dollar is better against the Yen I guess. I will flick you a PM with my email etc. Cheers!

Welcome aboard Tony. Car looks cool, Ive recently starting having much more of a appreciation for E28's. Looking forward to see what you do with it!

Yeah mate, had a good look through.. The website I posted was one of the links they put up

Cheers for the heads up on that Dan, do you know of anywhere that stats perhaps in plain black and white what cars and what years etc and be brought in rather than what the car needs to have to be complied? I also found a NZ based company that takes care of most of the stuff for you for a fee which I think might be a good idea. If anyone knows of them or uses them let me know .. www.autohub.co.nz

Thanks for all the help fellas. Brian I may have a few questions and / or propostion later on haha This is seemingly not as easy as first thought but still a good idea, lets see where it takes me..

Hey guys, I have recently been toying with the idea of importing a new car for myself from Japan.. When the mum suggested she would buy 3 cars or so insted and import them all over and maybe keep two and sell one. But those details arnt so important as of yet. What I am wanting to know is, is this going to be a real pain in the ass to get them over here, complied etc. I have read the thing on the LTSA website and it all seems fairly straight forward so it would seem. Has anyone on here imported a car before or know anyone that has that can give me a bit of advice on it all Flick me a PM. Any help is greatly appreciated. Cheeers Ryan.

Just for the record so people know. I bought a cheap set off Trade Me and have had them in my car for around a year now and havent had a single problem with them at all. They go mint

Saw you driving down the same road as Mt Albert Grammar while I was in mums E46 and then again along the flats heading towards Thames, you heading Auckland bound while my mate and I sat on the bonnet of his Mk5 Gti. Was going to wave but would have probably being awkward so I took pictures of zombies insted

m54b30 making a screeching noise only when hot. Sounds like metal on metal (may not be metal on metal) It only does it when the engine rpm is just a fraction below normal idle, so when like standing still in gear (auto) or with the ac and all the lights on. You can sometimes just hear it when its on normal idle but its not very loud. the sound is coming from under the oil filter housing (checked with a stethoscope). The sound is not a slipping belt, and it can not be a bad pully bearing because the sound is instantly gone as soon as u rev the engine up about 50-100rpm from where its making the noise. It sounds like something internal under/arround the oil filter housing. Oil used is Castrol Edge sport 0W-40. Oil filter used is genuine BMW. This seems to be a very common noise as from a brief search on the net a lot of people have this problem but no solution. Heres a couple of links as to what it sounds like (very similar) http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=674351 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mburPOPF6FI...player_embedded Thanks
