Welcome aboard mate. I personally dont have a problem with the likes of a 520i or a 728i, sure they arnt the fastest but they are still good cars. As people have already stated if you arnt too familiar with BMW's then its best to get the car you are keen on inspected by a BMW specialist or just go to a BMW dealership and they should be happy to give it a look over and tell you whats what about that particular car. Its usually around $150 but its better to spend that much than get a car that could potentially have a lot of problems.. But that all aside I think you will find you will enjoy driving a BMW they are pretty comfortable cars to drive in as you said you got to drive quite a lot and the handling is usually much more superior when compared to other cars of around the same era. Hope this helps. Ryan -
I saw Jamie (misgvous_1 ) and his silver 328 going on a bakery binge at mobil corner in Howick

HB Gizmo. I love you
-
So does anyone know where to get them beadblasted or stripped in a acid bath or something? and perhaps a rough cost of doing that?
-
Yeah we got the bigger blue M6 one at work, the electric motor one, if I could fit Id get one to go to the mail box in
-
They are worse it person, they look like they are made of clay and someone got a 5 year old to paint them with poster acrylic. I quite like the M5 wheels I got, Im not a huge fan on CH's on E36's myself, they look good but dont think they would suit the look I am going for on my car.. Will proberbly look into the place glenn suggested and my mate knows somewhere in Howick that will redo them for me. Cant really see the point in spending twice the amount on wheels for a car that is worth bugger all you know. Ending out costing me more becasue of my f**k up but oh well, live and learn!

So I got sick of my black wheels and always felt a bit ghetto driving around with them on so thought I'd do a little DIY while on my uni holidays and change them. I hated the entire process of it and also hate the end result so are going to somewhere where they can do it properley, but we all love before and after pictures so here it is..

Alright, So most people that know me, know I am a bit OCD with my cars cleanliness and am very picky with the products I use and all that jazz. As I noticed with my car when i got it that although the leather was black it was totally filthy. It is usually a good sign that leather is dirty when it is shiny. Leather should have a satin finish or matt finish to it when its new or very clean. I have noticed that after a few months it starts getting shiny again so I get it cleaned again. I think the best way to think of leather is like a living skin, or your own skin. It is subseptable to burning under UV light and hardens since the light dries it out. Gets dirty like skin and needs to be moisturised every so often to help replace the natural oils in the leather. This can be done really well by usuing a kind of hide food which is what I use in my car. Below will be pictures of the products I use and before and after pictures, methods are straight forward, you just spray on a cleaner (I use my own kind of cleaner which is mixed with various different things which pretty mcuh get all the dirt out and strip off any previous protective coatings ready for new protection to be applied. For really dirty spots esspecially on light leather you can use a toothbrush and cleaner. once you have applied the cleaner, use a clean cloth and wipe off any excess cleaner so the leather isnt too wet. Then apply your leather conditioner or hide food or what ever you choice to use, dont use too little or too much and wipe off excess as it could leave a white residue. Any way none of you are that stupid so Im sure you guys can work it out haha The rag at the end its all the dirt and crap that came off the seats! EDIT the last picture displayed is the before picture.. photos got all mixed up.. The picture with the white jar in it proberbly shows how well the leather comes out when you look at it close up.

Cheers for the insight.. As I did already meantion in my first post it HAS been looked over by more than one SPECIALIST. But good to get some information from a broard range of people, it might be a BMW site but peoples wealth of knowledge usually extends futher than just BMW. My dad wants to get it for me and I sell my E36 so I wont be covering repair bills.. I dont expect it to be as cheap to own and run as my E36 hence why I dont already own it... haha Note: the picture posted is not of the exact car. Dad just said its the same as the one posted. only RHD and white with the whale tail spoiler.

You can get the new X5 with the 7 seater option
-
Nope, think its a bit out of Auckland, no idea where though..
-
Yeah deffinatly not in it for the speed, just Dad thought it would be something different for me to drive around. From some research I have done they looks to be pretty reliable but a car is really only as reliable as the person who looks after it.. I just would like to know it will be reliable since it will be my daily car to get to work and uni. But i guess you cant expect perfect reliability from a 25-26 year old car haha. Regardless of whether I pay for upkeep or not. It was the womans husbands who died a while back, so I assume a bit of engine work will be needed to get her back up, gaskets and such like was mentioned above.

So I was talking to my father the other day and he was telling me about a lady he know who has a 1983 Porsche 911 SC she has had in storage for the last 10 years, its on 80,000kms. She is willing to sell it for below market value,I wont say how much but its a good deal. shes clearly nuts. But yeah Dad has been wanting to get the Porsche for me insted of the E36. It has been looked over a few times by a few specialists and it is pretty much faultless. Im not sure if I want to be responsible for the maintenece on such a car or if I want to roll up at uni in it.. What I am wanting to know is what experience have people had with these cars? common fault or something. Cheers fellas Its exactly like this one here

At my work (JC BMW) we mostly only use Pacer products. I find they are better than Meguiars or Mothers you just have to know how to use the products properly to work well for you.

I think there used to be a proper spotted thing under the off-topic section, this is going back like 4 -5 years ago now though haha, I have been here far too long...

What a minter! Thats beautiful. Always had a soft spot for the old S-class.. My mother knew a lady going through a rather bitter divorce had a 420SE which she offered to me as a gift (!?) God knows why i said no thanks I think I was scared of spending lots in fixing and the fact I was 17 and already had a E30. Someone on here sould buy that 560.. Id hate to see it go to a bad home or end up with bags or something.
-
Haha that was awesome, reminds me of taking to Alex's 6-series with the sledge hammer
-
Yea good choice ditching the Clio mate... Welcome aboard, lots of people here that can help you out with an E30 for sure, dont be shy to ask anything. Ryan
