Hardly sounds like Key's in support of Mubarak to me.
Correct. The quoted Blog Post was written by Martyn 'Bomber' Bradbury who as one of the staunchest left wing bloggers around will take any opportunity at all to discredit the John Key lead National Government.
Usually however (as in this case) All his posts do is serve to highlight how f**kin lame his spin is on any given situation.
His politics are questionable at best.

Firebirds. About the only car i wonder what drugs i was on.

or should it be 340i based on the E90 335i being a 3.0l Turbo
But then People would most likely confuse it for something with two more cylinders.
But to be even more picky, would it not be a 345i
Based on the 745i being a 3.5l Turbo
Yes.

Well Mint. Almost identical colour scheme to my DD Subaru. Much love!

absoluty beautiful day in wellington today. seems alot of bimmers were out on the road. i saw various pimped out 318i auto e36s, a slammed black on black on black on black...on black ??? e39, an amazing black e46 m3 vert with an older dude driving it, the top was up, sounded so hot even at low "through town" speed - CAB*** or something. but my favourite sight of the day, a red e30 touring (might have been techII kitted) with weaves driving south through the mt vic tunnel at 1:47pm. i know cause i checked the time. pretty sure he's a member.
all in all it was a good day
Saw that red touring today too, was waiting for yum cha in tory st.

No one seemed to desperately want the c2.5 touring that went here for $5k, nor the c2.7 engined m325 for 7.5k...
That's ridiculous. a Well sorted M325i can still fetch 8k and beyond.
Stop browsing overseas for CHEAP exotic BMW's Sam
Yeah, it's the "you may also be interested in..." that keeps on nailing me lol.

Traction is Overrated.

Weakest point about the V8's Is the recirc ball steering setup they have (imo). They lack a lot of feel and response in comparison to a lot of well set up cars running a rack.
Grow some nuts though and they are a surprisingly capable car even on tight back roads.

Sucks to hear that!
The hard part is sourcing the stuff! I was quite lucky and sourced it all from the same person basically.
2.93 = about 1900rpm
3.46 = about 2450rpm
in 6th at 100kph. She cruises much better at 50 now in 6th...didn't like it with the 2.93, and I feel this has helped me around town.
Feel free to ask any questions you may have down the line.
Cheers,
Ian
Yeah, part of me quietly thinks its a good thing, as it will force my A in to G.
3.46 looks like it would be the go, how useable are 1st and 2nd with that setup?

Generally, Is the only way to manual one of these M60/62 V8s to import the right gearbox from overseas?
Yeah, if you want to keep it bmw. Dont see why you couldnt mate a T5 or whatever with adapter plate/custom bellhousing etc.
But tbh, cost and hassle its probs just as easy to import.
hi its the original 3.15 diff that the 530i had .
pulls about 2600rpm at 100km/h
but your 540i with its 2.93 would be about 2450rpm
get one of those light weight ali flywheels while your at it from JB racing etc
Hmm, thats not too bad, though a 6th cog would be nice for those long trips. Got a couple of months to think about it and research at least.
-
Heh damn, how dramatic was the gearboxes failure?
This was always a worry of mine with my 540i back when I had it in 2009... especially since it was my first BMW then.
But yeah, a good idea to convert it to manual if you are prepared to part with the money.
Big loud bearing whine, slippage, and no ability to hold gear until i got the trans program error and it went into limp mode. Once in limp mode it just seemed to hold the same gear. was able to drive it the 52 k's home like that haha!
Was always going to make it manual, this just shifted things forward a bit.
thats unfortunate .
but that will be the deaf of many e34 540i e32 740i e38 740i and e39 540i in the future
oh well at least its pretty easy to swap it out for a manual.
very nice with 5 or 6spd .
i have a 4.4L and 5spd in my e34 goes well
Indeed it will brent.
out of interest, what ratio diff do you have and what kind of revs you pull @ 100 in 5th? Ideally would like a 6 speed, but open to 5.
-
The transmission lunched itself today.
Will be parking the car up realistically for the next 6 months whilst i try and find a 6 speed in good condition for the right coin.
Can't do anything till after my wedding in march, otherwise i'd be on the blower to the states/uk now lol.

It's plastic, scratches and snaps like plastic. All BMW wood is.
My E34 has real wood.

depending on spring rates, i would expect it to have a harsher ride. Pretty much apart from driveway scrape, thats pretty much the only negative i can think of.
-
Whats the fix for drivers headrest on my E34 540 not going up and down.stripped teeth on the drive motor?
Easy as to fix. took me 10 min last time:

There's nothing special 'bout them, just take it to a Merc' specialist.
FYI It's not a "Cosworth", it has a, the cars never had Cosworth anywhere on them so if it has Cosworth badges or stickers then some muppet has put them on.
Not directed at anyone but please stop calling them Cosworths. It amounts to the same thing as people putting M badges on a 318 auto'.
Cosworth designed AND built the head on the 2.3. Your right in that they were never officially called cosworths, but that hasnt stopped most people calling them that since their inception.

Gorgeous car in spectacular condition!

^^^ Looks tuff as.
Washed it. Fixed a pesky coolant leak.

Been doing my sums on importing boxes, keeping an eye out etc. Can be done reasonably cheaply if your on to it and bide your time.
Thought about a bit of cut and paste with auto bellhousing myself, just not sure how complex it would be?
I'll be watching this thread with interest: Blown Manual M62 E21. Awesome!
