I've got nolathane offset CAB's and new swaybar links. It doesnt feel like the suspension is vauge, it feels like the steering doesnt talk to me
-
F*ck me that Touring is beautiful! RJS - That colour looks nice too, it suits the Alpina's (haha look at me using Euro terms! ) Anyway, I bought some M-tech 2 sideskirts today, just some FRP copies - I'll pick them up tomorrow and see how things look. I also picked up my new plugs, belts, and OEM spec oil filter which means no more squealing belts and oily sparkplugs!! Shakedown - I took the car for a bit of a hack last night and noticed a few things: - The steering still doesn't feel that great / direct ( I suspect alignment, maybe I need a 2nd opinion on this) - Up the top of the rev range the car is emitting white smoke (suspect running lean up top - WTF, fuel pump?) - Brakes need bleeding again Fingers crossed I start the body work this weekend, feeling kind of lazy at the moment so maybe I'll just start on some small things. Next question - Do I keep the chrome trim?
-
Spoiler? No... Shelter.. Yes!
-
Johno - You've seen this eh? (ignore the matte job) Similar deal, fluro green carge and brown paint job. You made need to go brighter on your cage tho.
-
Wow Apex thats a sick looking brown! Any more pics?
-
Cheers mate, hasnt come out too bad eh! Thanks dude, It just might Haha, you know what dude... You can have poo brown I'd love to paint the wheel centers a really solid red but im keeping this sensible.. or something along those lines!
-
Cheers dude! should look choice when shes all paneled and painted. Still a fair way to go though! Haha the purple looks good on Simons car but its not my thing Ok you got me.. Its Diamond Schwartz Baby diarrhea brown Thanks bud, I've given up painting things lately so my friend did this rockercover for a bottle of wine. Mmm alcoholic car painters But feel free to bounce your questions off me because I've done several RC's before!

It lives! I test drove it this afternoon after fixing my driveshaft oops.. I hit the motorway for a few kms and other than the brakes having the stopping power of warm cheese it drove surprisingly well. Steering does feel a tad vauge but maybe thats just coming from my last car with adjustable coilovers and adjustable arms blah blah etc etc Other updates: Rockercover is painted. Its got bit of glitter.. But not much... Gotta' keep things sensible Bit of glitter in the clear coat (guess the colour!) I did the valve cover and half moon seals so hopefully that stops a few leaks. Next I need to pick up the belts and run the car for another 500km before I chuck another filter and some nice oil in. I checked the plugs today and they also look like they've seen better days, so i'll sort out a fresh set of plugs too Then its panel and paint time
-
Haha nah mate. I'm just full of fail lately.
-
DUDE. I dont know why I didnt notice... I know what I've done!.. Edit - BTW - I owe you a beer
-
Yeah dude. However I ran the car to 45km's on jacks and it was still doing it. Also I've had the car aligned already.. I'm totally stumped.. And i'm sure its retardedly trivial!..
-
Nah mate, I think the driver of the ugly duckling got shunned haha! Yep I feel pretty confident that its driveshaft related. I think I've decided on a colour too... Naturally im not saying what Hey mate, yep was driving fine when I test drove it when I had the shifter issues. So unfortunately I dont think its the bearing. Any idea If I need all 6 bolts? I've got the 3 bolted to the gearbox output flange and assumed I didnt need the other 3 that originally held the balencer in place. Bah.. something so simple...
-
Ok. So i've replaced the coupling with a brand new one and the car still vibrates badly from the driveshaft at 45-50km and I cant figure it out why! Surely it cant be that difficult.. Somebody help! New coupling installed I noticed that you could see the splines on the driveshaft near the center hanger bearing (or whatever its called in Germanland) On a brighter note I found my car was leaking oil from the rocker cover gasket, so I've bought a new one and the associated half moon seals. Check out my sweeeeeeeet transparent rocker cover!! Custom! Old rockercover I made electrical tape stars.. f**k yeah, you know you want them!

Word. However, I think his thinking is somewhere along the lines of keeping the engine weights similar. 1JZ would be banging but im guessing fairly heavier than the M20
-
I hardly know anyone dude! If anyones got a spare seat i'd be keen, i dont bite! Just actually had a look at that red and its pretty sick. Would look good with the E30's black trim and silver wheels. hmmm!
-
Haha.. I actually saw a choice looking silver that grabbed my eye.. Anyway, I test drove the car this afternoon. And the shifter issues were all sorted!! But... I cant go over 45kms/hr. It feels like the driveshaft is unbalenced and I'll have to get the car up in the air again for another look.. That coupling was in pretty average condition when I removed it so that may be the cuprit. So no cruise for me.. But on a good note one of my best mates has also decided to help me with the body work. So we should also be getting that underway shortly! And on another side note after the test drive - I also need to sort out: - my non functioning door locks - intermittent drivers side window electrics - non functioning passenger rear window electrics - new valve cover gasket (prolly do this when we I paint the RC) - new belts - new plugs - new badges - fiberglass bonnet (haha.. what?... its maintainence!)
-
Hahaha sounds like we may have more in common than just BMW's! Alright, So the dash is mostly back in (bar the stupid gauge cluster trim), steering wheel is on, horn is wired, electric windows working, and the headdeck and speakers are working again. Still a couple of little things to sort out tomorrow. Interior lighting! Tunage! Working spotlights! Also there are a few more things to sort out before the panel work starts but that shouldnt be too far off either. And to be honest black is kind of a boring colour to paint a car.. I mean.. everyone has black!

For sure dude, I saw he mentioned that he was looking at some Nissan powerplants on Ziptied and was leaning towards the CA18DET of all things! I'm looking foward to seeing how he goes regardless (man i want that front lip of his!) Its good to see that he didnt end up selling it too.. Ditto if you ever make it to NZ! PS - i'll paypal that cash for the stickers through shortly. Cheers, Matt

Haha come on mate! Just get stuck in, how much is left to do? Update: Got my WOF Got new Reg Should be aligned tomorrow And on Saturday I'll be tidying up all the bits and pieces and will hopefully make it to the cruise on Monday!
-
This. You can source most/all of the bits you need through BNT.
-
Haha yeah for sure bro, ive got access to a fair few testing days so let me know when you get your project track ready! Thanks bud, yep I've pulled the metal outer housing housing off (the heavy balencer type ring) but I left the thin inner ring on (the one the goes around the rubber inner coupling) Does that sound right? I didnt know If that rubber coupling seperated from the inner housing. How'd you get on with the track day by the way? One of the boys said they got a few nice shots of your car!

Settle down lads - I speak for myself when I say that I'm not attacking the force I'm attacking the certification structure (or lack thereof). I've got friends and family in the force and understand that its not easy for them. But you've got to remember they dont sign up for a bloody desk job.. They expect and train for the sh*t they get on a day to day basis. And lets face it.. People will always drive around with illegal mods, and as I said before you would be naive to think otherwise. I proposed no magic cure, only a step towards a solution.. Elmarco - Have you ever been through the current certification process? Its stupid and out of reach realistically to most of our youth: 1. You find a workshop that does certs, and try and book a time. 2. You pay your $400 and unlikely pass on the first time. 3. You wait two weeks for the cert plate to arrive from Wellington. (hopefully they print it correctly) 4. You save your pennies and want to do another mod that will require certification. 5. Repeat 1. You could leverage this current process and using a similar model, keep the roads even safter than they are now.. But you would have to restructure things. You would have to make it cheaper and more accesisible to the general modification community. It would also provide another wall to those who wished to do things illegally and dangerously.. You would have more cars going through this certfication process and being checked by the professionals I see where you are coming from and of course if the police notice something thats life threatening or will cause a potential accident they should have the ability to have the car pink stickered and delt with accordingly! The parts you would be removing the police from would be subjective things like exhaust testing and that stupid "significantly louder than factory" clause. You could have the cert stations with their decibel meters correctly metering the exhausts, rather than the officers ears. I want my taxpayer money being spent on officers patroling. Not listening to some hoodies exhausts. I do hear where you are coming from though. -
Yeah mate, shouldn’t be too far away from a WOF now (hopefully tomorrow). I took it her for the first drive last night, the rear guards need more beating and the car is in need of a severe alignment. But other than that, and the fact the gearbox sounds like it’s about to grenade.. all the other noises are gone Hopefully I’ll make it to the cruise, otherwise I may have to grab a ride with somebody if anyone's keen for another passenger. Thanks mate! I sorted it last night. Ghetto removed the balancer and I can now get into reverse! What a wonderful gear!! Haha thanks mate, you and me both. I definately prefer driving cars more than working on them, so I cant wait to get this out on the track. Maybe if the "best presented award" for the Anniversary day cruise was changed to the "Ugly duckling award" I might have a shot! Thanks buddy, yeah not bad for just shocks and springs. I kind of wish I had adjustables but knowing myself I would just get carried away, sell the interior, build a jungle gym and bolt a turbo on.. I’m trying for sensible this time.. haha

Agree'd, the Das Racing teams E30 sounds sick... mmm Barky N/A's Infact it was one of the first video's I ever saw an E30 in!

For sure mate. I never said it would solve it all and it would be naive to think it would. Unfortunately there is no magic easy cure for the plague of boy racer-dom But in my eyes it’s a step in the right direction. I guess the solution isn’t as dramatic and as exciting and a mass attack on the modified car community and fixing the problem doesn’t warrant the media coverage that a sweet montage on TV1 of Holden VQ’s, flat peaks and cut springs does. What I’m saying is why make it so difficult for the people who want to do it the right way? Why doesn’t the government and local councils get behind the certifiers and subsidize the certs? Instead they let these high and mighty political Muppets try and make a name for themselves as the savior to the city.. Savior from what?? A bunch of hoodies?! IMO – in Matt Zealand: If you’ve got a mod, it’s got to be certed. No cert for a modded car = pink sticker. Your shits gotta’ be towed back to your house for repairs up to a suitable standard to re-certification. But to get to this stage you’ve got to get the cert process sorted. It HAS to work and be financially viable for the general public. This will: 1) Encourage people to do it the correct way. Fueling new business and giving the motoring industry in NZ a good kick. 2) Remove the police from their often subjective law.. This means that trained certifiers have the last say. If its got a cert plate then she’s good to go.. No grey.. Black or white. 3) Remove unverifiable cars off the road. Too loud?.. well it wouldn’t have passed cert. This means it doesn’t even hit the road.. Doesn’t hit the road, doesn’t piss public off. 4) I take a cut of every cert. I Invade Fiji and build my own Nürburgring. Women are imported from Eastern Europe, Australia and Sweeden to assist with my daily duties. Something positive has to happen soon otherwise all our cars are going to end up looking like Australia’s (hahaha) I love NZ
