Update: Started the fun job of taking the drum rear end out for the disc rear end swap. Have disconected the brake and handbrake lines, just havn a b*tch of a job undoing the trailing arm bolts, barely have any room for a socket..thought a long arm bar with a socket and a cresent spanner may work..anyone have any recommendations? Also wire brushed the new exhaust to be repainted, then will take to pit stop to get it welded to my m40 exhaust flange. Repainting the A pillar today since its a sunny day and a final coat of primer on my 'repaired' bootlid b4 i can repaint it. Also doing the above to my now rust free battery tray. Regarding the above post I will just keep the standard belts for the moment, would prefer to see behind the car when reversing lol. Also does anyone know where I could pick up battery cable/appropriate gauge wire, for me to wire up the battery kill switch. Progress is going real slow of late. getting frustrated. Andy, let me know what the status is of the bilsteins otherwise ill just try find another set.. Till next time, Nathan

Fair enough, wasnt getting mad at you, forgot to quote the 320guy in my post. Sorry for any offence, atleast your gonna improve the safety of the car by getting decent pads for the job you require. I am also a avid cyclist so Jimmy's post I fully agree with, I too have had many close calls. I am looking into getting EBC's for my car as well, let me know how they go Mark Cheers, Nathan

Didnt I see on e30 Tech you lost ur licence a while back?? Funny how that happened. Yes my silverlines are sh*t, will be replaced with something decent when my car is built and I may not have experienced fade early enough because that was my first time driving on the track so was being cautious. What my point meant to highlight for "standard driving - town speeds to 120 ish" repco pads would be fine unless you were thrashing it. Seriously cant workout why you would spend so much $$ on slotted rotors and then skimp on pads...kinda canceling the improvement in performance you were looking for wouldnt it? Anyway just my opinion

I have Silverlines (from Repco) in the fronts of my e30 when i took it to manfield for a track day (car had drum rears at that stage) and they lasted about three laps at full pace before the pedal went soft with what 2-3 times per lap on the brakes from 150-160kph, surely that is alot better performance than one slow down to 100 from 190kph. just my 2c. And they work fine for general road use.

Condition of the plastic inner arch guards on the facelift? and the plastic bootrim that goes along the top to cover the lock etc on the boot? also interior lights by the b pillar??
-
Got any interior pics? Keen to pick up some ideas for how to finish mine off

Welcome, nice choice starting at the bottom, just what I did. What I like to remember is, its not how big it is, it's what you do with it

talk about bad timing haha good luck with the sale, your car is turning into a real weapon
-
Not road legal but the ferrari enzo at 2mill has gotta be up there.

Okay will do that. Umm, atm am not gona build it to race series spec (managed to get shocks and springs at very reasonable price, alot lower than cost of konis and kings) although I have still managed to forget this was sposed to be on a budget , am looking at possibilty of engine conversion next year to something along the lines of a sr20 much in the mould of the 300hp one on e30tech. but just an idea for the moment. Ideally would like to run this till I can afford another DD, then full sandblast respray, roll cage and sr20 or something with some more mumbo. But for the moment just having fun putting this together to vastly improve from the boat I had b4 with the gangster sub and hubcaps b4 lol

Thought I better add an update, havnt posted on this thread in a while. Stuff Ive done: - Bucket seat bracket welded and painted, mounted in car with seat - Taken off exhuast manifold to replace gasket - Painted the 'm40 weapon' (as it is now called) rocker cover - One wheel sanded back and primed ready for polaris silver - Paint ordered for wheel and respray of passenger A pillar - Killed some rust on passenger front guard, boot and engine bay seals and wire brushed battery tray and primed ready for repaint - Sprayed front and rear sway bars yellow to match the bilsteins when I get them - Had a look at bushes, are not in good shape, getting on to ordering this week - Map pocket delete (wanky I know, but gives more room for legs when bucket seat is mounted - Stitched and repaired seat (thanks mum lol) Stuff to do next: - Buy exhaust off sydwayz - Buy bootlid (still havnt got round to doing it (sorry brent ) - New exhaust gasket from BMW - Take rear end out, check rear subframe bushes, then swap with disc rear end when can manage to unlock the handbrake spring on the rotors - Disassemble and remove front struts for 51mm struts when get round to it - Order bushes (atm doing diff hanger and trailing arms) any other suggestions?? - Buy some new rotors for rear end - Couple brackets needed for rear sway bar Looks like Im gona be busy lol, now realistically want it all done mid Dec.....famous last words - Also what does everyone think about a 4 point harness for daily driving? I just wana look cool lol and a normal belt doesnt really suit my bucket seat..opinions please Sorry for long post, will have pics when some cool stuff goes on Till next time, Nathan

So I may be buying a set of bilsteins off a mate, he has had them on storage for a bout a year, he said one is slightly leaking. My main question is, can shocks be inspected/repaired when they are not on a car? I really want to buy these so any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Nathan

I was only going to find one if it was in good condition. Is that $35 from BMW?? Thanks
-
cool thanks glenn, off to go scope one out at pick a part

Just took a quick look around in my engine bay (316i m40) and realised the heatshield that goes between the exhaust manifold (i think) and the ignition leads/rocker cover is rusty and falling apart. I was wondering would a m40 318i shield fit on my car? PS am looking to buy one if someone has a good condition one, didnt know wether to put in wanted to buy or maintenence. Cheers, Nathan
