The E30 320's are 129 horsepower whereas teh E36's are 150 horsepower so you'll have a bit more push. The E36's are the M50 vanos engine which are good engines I'm told. Go out and test drive a couple, it never hurts. Its good to get a gauge of what condition should be expected with BMW's as there are alot of crappers that have been imported and sold off cheap and fewer nice ones about these days. As Cain said, the 318iS soudns like a good option, tis a fair bit lighter with a smaller engine than the 320i. In saying that you'll probably get no better fuel economy when buying a 320 over a say 323 or 325 so keep your mind open to more powerful options as they're not that much more expensive.

well they all have there pros and cons but personally I'd go for the 318iS M42. .. probably an idea not to go with a 318 prior to 1995 as they have hte M40 engines which are older technology that was used from 1988. .. the 320's are known to guzzle a bit with the E30's I'm not sure whether that is reflected in the M50B20 in the 320i. Maybe the following information would help. Model - Engine Number - Cylinders - Horsepower - Top speed - Year range. (note hte year range is variable with other countries and is not necessarly reflected in NZ market). 316i M40 4 cylinder 100 HP 191 km/h 1990 - 1993 316i M43 4 cylinder 102 HP 195 km/h 1993 - 1998 318i M40 4 cylinder 113 HP 198 km/h 1990 - 1993 318i M43 4 cylinder 115 HP 201 km/h 1993 - 1998 318is M44 4 cylinder 140 HP 213 km/h 1996 - 1998 320i M50 6 cylinder 150 HP 214 km/h 1990 - 1998 323i M52 6 cylinder 170 HP 231 km/h 1996 - 1998 325i M50 6 cylinder 192 HP 233 km/h 1990 - 1994 328i M52 6 cylinder 193 HP 236 km/h 1994 - 1998

Firstly a few things I've noticed 1. Hamiltonians hate BMW drivers. 2. Doesnt matter how old and crusty your BMW is, people seem to be under the assumption your rich and spoilt and a snob despite the fact you worked hard to pay for the car and dont take handouts from mummy and daddy. 3. People dont realise you can buy a nice BMW for less than you can buy an average ford / holden these days.
-
Lol I wouldnt be too surprised if it goto upto $3-4k. Heck buy another E36 engine and it wouldnt be any less than $1200.. $1500 is a long way off the finishing price.

dont mean to have a whinge but would probably a good idea to make one thread. As cool as they are.. I dont think we need that many threads clogging up the forsale section. One would be fine . Cheers Andy.

E30 2 door interior Dark grey 2 front seats and back. minor rips in driver, little worse in passenger. Overall not too bad. back seat in good condition. only catch is I need to keep the front seat til I have the race seats put in which could be anything from a month till possibly the start of january. (may drop it off but will probably require pickup if not in South auckland). $offers for pickup may include rear door cars but undecided at this stage.

tell him you'll give him $3800 registered and on the road. Personally I'd strike it off my list if the owner is not willing to have it complied and registered.
-
there will be hidden problems. - people dont just leave a car sitting for a year because they feel like it and then de-reg it. Taking someones word that nothings wrong with it.. is a bit silly. Would you leave a car for a that length of time and de-register it.. surely you realise the huge pain it is re-registering.. it seems insane why someone would do that instead of keeping it live or flicking it off. Can you make sure its actually been NZ Registered? because it might be that this is just a failed import that is just getting fobbed off and quite possibly isnt registerable. somethings fishy....
-
if its de-reg'd a bmw pre-purchase inspection is probably going to be a few extra pages long. Whats wrong with it ... why has it been de-reg'd.

My mo is a bit of a sad sight.. beard coming through but mo's a negative .. Have had to shave a few times when going out just to keep thing tidy, although having not shaved the mo at all as its looking glum. Mullvember though on the other hand, is going great. Bimmersport would have tonnes of competition. damn you Ryan - at home while im still @ unitec ... grrr! will take fotos in a few days when im not working and hopefully will be mo'ing by then.
