for your purposes allan an e39 540 vs e39 530 should be the same (if of similar year),ie a late e39 msprt should look very very similar(in and out) to an E39 M5 and will have bigger wheels and a slightly lower firmer ride than a std (non msprt car)

most prospective V8 E39(or m62 engined cars) purchasers will be aware of the problems these cars can have.It was on 170 000 ks so it was/ is possibly at the start of a series of replacements,it was not the tidiest car,and it had some fault codes ,and an misfire at idle that SMG could not diagnose.I still think it could be a very good buy but i didnt want to buy a car that could have been initially very very expensive,(but still relatively well worn)I would rather find one that i may have to spend the same money on (but over a more planned/longer) period and have an very tidy interior.I must stress the current owner has been very very helpful and upfront throught out the whole thing. He told me about the "uneven idle" at an early stage, and offered a lower price.

fare not fearWinston is a past master at this storm in a teacup thing.I think he will be the MP for Tauraunga again..... no contest this time.

after a lot of effort on my part(and his),two trips to Southland Motor Group(the car not me!),many, many phone calls,I canned it.It may be back on the market soon,or he may keep it.

and there in lies the problem..what IS an msport? and a lot of people call their cars M sport or mtech when they dont have even one mtech or msport option.I think the dealers call the body kit Msport
-
why do they block them off?
-
they are mostly cosmetic differences, but the "complete msport" should say for an e 39 look almost identical to an M5(so should have body kit, sports seats, sports steering wheel and other alloy wheels and mechanically the difference will be only be the M sport suspension. But the 540 that i was lookin at had msport seats and suspension but did not have the m sport body kit so do you call it an msport or not?.Get the build sheet and that will list the options it has,I think 339 is what the dealers call the m sport option(and i think that is the body kit) .The southern car has the msport suspension and seats listed as options, but not the body kit(339).It also had some alloy wheel option and has the m5 look alike wheels but i dont know if they are the actual wheels it came with. The sport suspension makes the car corner a lot flatter than the std suspension(and probably has a stiffer ride esp "side to side") on the E34 the "sport" also had a slightly lower diff ratio(3.64 vxs 3 .46)

apparently NZ has one of the highest uptakes of autos....I like the sound of VW dsg(borg warner actually?),or a proper sequential box .I am probably over the hill, but i wont have an auto in my garage.EVER

i wouldnt bank on it have good resale, but who knows.the new restrictions on imports might make car values rise slightly but who knows what the economy/fuel situation will be like.
-
if you do go for new get either e34 M5 or E32 750 bushes, they will last longer than std ones edit...oops just saw they were rear disregard!

uh oh....are these posts related?

make yourself a wish list and keep looking. When you fine EXACTLY what you want then do it.Manual vs auto your choice. If you are happy with an auto there is probably very little in it,day to day an atuo is probably better...to me a manual adds to the driving experience/involvement,plus some extra control and predictablility.Get the absolute best one you find not necisarily the lowest k or youngest

nice and clean....wet car photos verboten

the e39 has its own hub diaater.Only E 39 BMW wheels will ft he E39,ALL other 5,6,7, and 8 eries wheels would require the hub to machined out a little bit.E 39 has approx 74mm hub,E34,32,31,24,28,38,60,65 72.5mm(maybe some others too!)might be some slight offset variations here to

even after the best part of six years my car still surprises me...at just the right angle she still takes my breath away and with a nice smooth road surface the ride and quietness is really nice, and the combination of dynamics, power, space, handling is still (for me) an unbeatable combination. There may be aspects of that that other cars can match or beat, but the E34 has them ALL in a 22 year old design package....whew

its mostly uphill on the way there, and mostly downhill on the way back
