Picked it up for a bit of light reading on the plane back from oz. Really good book if anyone is interested. If there is any interest I can give it a quick review. linkage

Looking good mate - would've liked a ride when you were up, but I snooze, I lose I guess. Catch up when I get back maybe.

Says they are genuine BMW - I take that with a grain of salt of course, but since I don't actually know if BMW ever made any thought I should ask before I write the guy of as full of sh*t. Anyone know? link

There is nothing like prevention to stop your car being stolen - this includes parking in a safe place under lock and key if possible, installing good locks on your doors (ore removing them entirely) and a good alarm with immobilisers. Gus - if you can easily disable an alarm, it wasn't installed properly. It is impossible to do a proper install in 2 hours. 3-4 is the bare minimum to do it properly. If the installer is good at his/her job, they will spend serious time installing the brain of the alarm somewhere where it is impossible to get at (like removing the dash and putting in behind or similar), and other such "good install practices". Unfortunately very few installers can be bothered, and since most people are motivated by price, they find the cheapest installer they can. If your car gets stolen because of a cheap install - its your own fault. False ecenomy in my opinion. Andy - the diff between the 3600 and 7600 is in the 7600, there is a loop in the steering column that detects your transponder so the alarm won't reactivate whilst you are sitting there. the 3600 will and you have to press the button to disarm again. The 7600 will still reactivate once you walk away. Mongoose m60 m80 or m90's are just as good as the dynatron equivalents at the same price level - either brand is excellent IMO. Again, it is the qality of the install that counts. A cheap alarm from DSE well installed will be better than the most expensive alarm poorly installed. and finally - most insurance companies offer a discount with an alarm. If you are thinking of getting one anyway, this halps make the decision easier. Whilst you're at it, get a fire extinguisher - also get a discount. My discount for having a fire extinguiser paid for the extinguisher after the first year.

The 323 was in the latest Classic Car (Aston Martin on cover) and since I am casually looking for new wheels, gave the owner a ring, but bugger it all, it's gone. Just incase anyone else saw it in the mag and had the same idea, just letting you know.

I struggled with that file try this instead

And if we go back a bit further before the SSangyong brand was used and it was Musso, it was then a Korean shell and actual Mercedes motor and running gear (not made under license, but actuall mercedes manufacturered AFAIK) and you could buy a Musso from Coutts Mercedes. (We test drove one when they came out but went for a landy instead) Then as sales picked up, Ssangyong used its own name for the brand but continued with mercedes engines. I don't know why merc did it, but the first Musso was built in the early nineties, and so for ten years they have been using merc engines and it hasn't reflected badly on merc at all, so either its because the engines are good, or Ssangyongs are good also. Anyway, the Koreans of the nineties are like the japs of the 70's. They were newcomers with problems, but these are fast being sorted. Some of the Korean cars are gaining ground faster than you can say Hyundai. My guess is it won't be long and they will be on the tails of the japs. The Euro and american manufacturers need to pull finger or they will be left behind. Shame really.

I prefer the Alpinas. Not if you are prepared to pay for them. They are not cheap.

Nah - leave the tweets facing left-right in the sails. Facing forward ruined the soundstage - it sounded like I was standing too far from the front of the concert lol. It exaggerrated the high-highs and so the sound was like it was coming from a tin can. Facing towards me, the sound started to get blurred - the high beats were less distinct and it was like listening through a door. where some sounds were muffled and others too loud. How they were, yes the sound was a bit bright, but I think a bit of playing with the levels should see me right. So after all that blether - the answer is to try them and see what sounds good to you.=, but I would recommend facing each other and to hell with cancellation.

Only reason I suggested Gus get his tuned is because he don't know how to work his amp - mine is self-tuned also, but I do know it could go slightly harder with an expert touch. What components have you got? I had fusions (they were crap) tried some Bostons and loved 'em but weren't mine, got Infinity 6000CS's in there now. I find the infinity's are quite bright anyway even in the shop but should be able to sort that out...

I found putting tweeters in the a-pillar sails even on -3db on x-over they sound too bright. I am thinking of putting a wedge to aim them slightly forward (The flush/swivel-mount won't fit as no space behind sails). Try to get someone to tune your amp x-over so that it sounds right if you can't do it yourself. Proper tuning can make a big difference. I have high-pass at around 60Hz to my fronts (6.5 inch components) and then lowpass at same level to sub. Full pass to my 6.5 2-ways in the rear, but I have the fade right down so you can't hear them unless in the back seat anyway. Still a bit bright, and having to up bass-boost etc to compensate which I don't want to do as it is not a full equaliser and f**ks with my sound reproduction. I'll let you know what repointing the tweeters does gus, then maybe you could copy that?

Like it and like JC and love the ATOM. RJ - that's my watching programme although I slip that terrible PIMP my ride in too as I borrow ideas for customisation even though the show itself sucks.

Yep tried all three myself - just don'ttry to put on grills or factory trim if you want the bonnet release to fit. Mine does now, but only due to a bit of handy hack-saw work and the generosity of andrew/jontym50e30.

I agree - Stillettos would look good. I was looking at them, but have now gone off them as there are so many cars up here with them.
-
I'll wait to bid - see how stupid the general public go on them.
-
haven't tried it myself, but my Dad took his e30 to aux, and came back telling me how much better the car performed/ran on the way back. Thought it must of needed a good run. Wasn't for a day or two that he realised he had put the new fuel in - so thats as objective a test as anyone can do (i.e. notice a difference when you're not looking for one).

Stolen from another forum, but too good to ignore. Will be issuing a few myself at autosalon this weekend hehehe...

Wow Rod - nice first post mate! :thumb: Welcome! Today I received the spare lever cable and latch from Jonty which I intend on modifying to work by thinning it out and strengthening with a metal brace. If it doesn't work I may have a go at fabricating a new one. What I didn't realise till I looked at the latch is that the release cable has a tensioning spring which means the movement at the lever end is much more than at the latch end. This means a solenoid is quite viable wit a non-sprung cable or wire . As far as a back-up system goes, most e30's have a emergency release latch easily operated in the dark with a flat-head screwdriver. The only thing is that the solenoid would have to allow movement when no power to it so if flat battery you colud operate the latch manually. Thanks for the ideas re: Al lever - if I can't get it to work I may try that. Oh, and cheers for the parts Andrew!!!

The added risk to insurance companies is bull. Currently if an un-insured driver has an accident and damages another vehicle chances are that driver has full insurance and so the insurance companies are paying out anyway. Odds are that there will be an even spread of all these at risk drivers throughout the various insurance companies, and so on average, nothinng will change except the insurance companies will be collecting an additional premium from all these new customers. There may be the odd anomaly, etc, but on average, everything should even out, and the insurance companies will prob be better off. Unfortunately, they will use the move as an excuse to raise premiums, and because as NZ'ers we love being screwed we will pay it. Also, some companies will really hike the premiums for TP to avoid taking on these at-risk customers which will mean it will prob be more beneficial to get Full cover. But, if they were honest, they could prob keep prices as they are, or even drop them, but that doesn't help line their pockets now does it?

Full cover, agreed value 5.5k, under 25 with sh*t record - $700pa plus MASSIVE excess that almost makes full cover a waste of time and I am thinking of downgrading to TP & theft. Ali - sounds like you insure through your parents - that is dodgy as f**k and I hope you have it sussed so it is legit - if not, your insurance company may not pay out if they find out. Compulsory insurance??? Definitely.! Oh, and what the hell is hevolve.com - heaps of sh*t from there being downloaded as this page loaded? Someone want to check there isn't a script of some sort hidden in a post???
-
Yep - must be something in the air or something. Fire extinguishers are on special at Burnsco Marine - $23 for a 1kg, or if you are space conscious, $25 for a half kg one. No excuse not to have one at that price, and check with your insurance - my company gives me a 5% discount for having one, and that works out to more than the cost of buying it, not mention the security knowing that if your car catches fire you don't hve to watch it burn thinking you might have been able to save it if you had one.

lmao - nice one Cilk, and much less insulting than Andrews offer if slightly less on topic.
-
That can also happen if the file is of an acceptable type, but too big - try making it smaller or saving as a lesser quality jpeg to reduce the file size.
-
No - I want one too.Cam cover - no, but I would consider it tryhard on a non-alpina, but not rice.

Second one is also on TM but diff price I think - it looks a great car.
