Isn't that what I said more or less??? meh. I should have said "have my own insurance..." and the car is in my name.

Ha, these b'day threads always remind me of those ads - "It's not the drinking, its HOW we're drinking"

When I look back at my 21st I think man it was all down hill from there, but then when i think about it I realise it started going downhill along time before then, so it's too late to do anything about it. Just remember - no matter how drunk you get at your 21st and how sick you feel the next day or two, it is not the drunkest you will be or the sickest you will feel so enjoy it . And on that mixed note, happy b'day man! :thumb:

Yo, ryan - why don't you part it out? I would be keen for a coupla smaller bits, but I'm sure others would want other bits. I would buy it and part it out myself, but I don't really have the time resources at the moment.

For those of you living at home, you should be fine with your parents having the car in their name and insuring it for you and having you as the named driver. Plenty of parents buy cars for their children. My sister lives at home and my parents bought her car for her and they insure it. The problem arises for kids not living at home. My brother doesn't live at home, but my parents own his car and insure it for him - this time, no problem as he is the named driver, they paid for it, and his "home" address is my parents place as he gets accomodation provided by his employer, but only works six months of the year. Again, legit as he drives his car to work and then home again, its just he is at work for six months. (it also helps he doesn't drive the car while at work, only to and from work at the end of each work period) Now, if they did that for me not living at home, then that would be a totally different issue, however, I guess they could say that they bought my siblings cars and felt it only fair to buy me one, but they want to retain ownership, but that is something I don't want to risk as it is not really the case, so I have my own insurance.

Hi guys - I been trawling trademe and have come accross a few mercs for sale for similar money to what I would spend on my next bimmer. Has anyone actually driven any of the 190E (W201 cars I think) series in either standard 2.0, or 2.3 and 2.6 variants? I don't want this to turn into a merc bashing session, I only want honest comments from those who have driven them, or know anything about them. I think a properly kitted AMG looks tits, but am worried that the performance will not match the looks. I looked at these cars when hunting for a bimmer as a possible option, but never found any that I thought were worth a test drive before I came accross my e30. So don't flame me for bringnig this up, I'm just curious. Any HELPFUL comments greatly appreciated.

Those of you who trawl trademe forgive me for posting something you've probably seen, but what kind of goose puts one of these on their car? click my bitch up

Yes they are adjustable, and not too hard to do if you go to someone who is familiar with the cars. Your regular mechanic (read non-bmw specialist) may be able to do it, but I have heard many horror stories of mal-adjusted tappets when someone has gone to a non bmw tech. Shouldn't be too expensive provided that is the problem. Had mine done recently, but also had a lot of other work done - new cambelt (and associated bits like idler/tensioner/gaskets), new water pump, coolant system flush, new plugs, general tune - at the same time. Total bill was $6 hundy and something.

No bad driving history?? Then, since no injury prob just a fine. If injury, then min six months loss. If previous history then prob loss for at least 3 months. Tell him to enter no plea on his first appearance and get some legal advice. That is all.

Brent - obviously component is the way to go, but for a gran, even with hookups, well it just won't cut it now will it? Even on a budget, to get the best bang for buck you need to think of like at least $500-$600 per component on average, with closer to a grand being better. At least from what i have listened to. You can wang together a component system for a grand, but not usually as good value as the same box system. Cam320 - how much were the klipsch satellites - klipsch make awesome speakers. Liek I said - not exactly the ultimate system by any stretch, but amazingly good value for what you get is the Philips 3600D

so? I am from northland after all. lol.

Anyone hurt? Obviously the police attended from the dazzle on the road - the driver get pinged? Gutted dude.

Now with only 5 hundy to spend, and it being a "stop-gap" system, a component system is out of the question as you know, so obviously you're on the right track looking at a HTIAB (Home Theatre In A Box). My folks bought a 5-disc Phillips with tall uprights and satellite speakers that has plenty of inputs for sky etc and built in tuner. I don't find it the easiest one to use - sometimes it is damn frustrating, but it is a good unit for slightly over the grand. I have a smaller phillips unit that I bought for a spare for my bedroom due to a space problem for $600 - it has now been moved into the lounge. It compared for volume with my whoring big sony system that cost three times as much five years ago except in the bass department which was quieter, but much more accurately reproduced and much tighter too (for a cheap system). It is way easier to use than my folks one, is single disc but also has a built-in tuner. Comes with four satellite speakers, centre and a sub. Obviously if I could afford it I would build a decent system, but in the meantime, this one does the job. I'll get the model number for you and post it tomorrow.

Ummm, agreed on everything 'cept the comment about the RAV 4. They are not the best i agree, but I have taken a friends one places you wouldn't think possible. All it takes is some decent tyres and a bit of driving skill. The big downside really is the lack of a low-ratio transfer box. I was thinking of modifying a RAV with a transfer box and gearbox out of another car and then throwing some lockers in for good measure, but a better vehicle came along.

Never seen them before and think they look worse than regular clears. Didn't know how many others had seen 'em so thought I'd post them up. Sorry if it's your car or you disagree, just my opinion. Click here for the auction
