  1. Also, the WOF goes to the end of next month. REGO, middle of next year.
  2. Thanks guys. Yeah I did Ian, hasn't responded yet. I think you would be pressed hard to find a better E34 for the money, in this colour too, I'm still happy to use it, so prepared to just wait for someone to come along offering what I'm after... Some pictures in average lighting with it's current factory spec 15x7 alloys. Lovely.
  3. I love that site, I forgot about it. Just spent the last couple of ours going through it. There some amazing stuff in there.
  4. Thanks guys. It certainly is, but I go to do, what I got to. Hopefully I may have some luck selling, but I wouldn't hold my breath, will probably take months. Worth a try anyway!
  5. Well as much as I would like to keep my 540iA, I must cut my loses and part with it due to my increasing study commitments Some details about the car 540iA 5 speed Auto 4.0 V8 Blue metallic style paint. 259,000kms - Seem to be a majority of highway km's. Standard Alloys 6th Owner (excluding dealers) I've had the car for 6 months, would plan to keep it, much, much longer but my studies have to take a priority over the car. It's had the following work done. Before I bought it, it had a new radiator and coolant, brake pads and front wheel bearings done. At around 252,500kms: 5w-40 Helix Ultra oil change (8L) with genuine filter. 8x NGK Iridium spark plugs Other work over the last few months includes (German Parts from Euro-Italia) Drive shaft - Gearbox rubber disk coupling Front left thrust arm (Incl Bush and ball joint) Front right thrust arm (Incl Bush and ball joint) Front left control arm (Incl Bush and ball joint) Front right control arm (Incl Bush and ball joint) New Transmission filter New Transmission pan gasket Transmission flush with Penrite ATFBMV004 Front left and right engine mounts Gearbox left and right rubber mounts H&R lowering springs Wheel alignment. Other things include Alpine MP3/CD player stereo. Rear JL Audio speakers Front JL Audio Tweeters Grey leather seats New front headlight/fog bulbs Plus a few minor things here and there, over the recent months I've spend somewhere in the vicinity of $3,500 on it. I have over $2000 worth of that in receipts. Excluding all my time and effort of course! This is a well looked after car, ideal for someone with some time on their hands that wants to continue fixing up the common wear items. I recommend sorting out the rear sub frame/diff mounts and drive shaft hanger/bearing as the drive shaft is giving a slightly vibration under acceleration at 1.8k-2.0k rpm, and oil change is due at 260,000ks. Would see it pretty much right for sometime with those things done. I would be doing it, but I just don’t have the time with my finals coming up fast and other commitments to consider. A tough choice, but it have to let it go onto someone that has the time for it. After $6,500 firm. It owes me a LOT more but I figure that is a fair price, coupled with its rare desirable colour/condition. 021-02425794. I am located in Auckland, please give me a call or text if you’re interested. Cheers Mike.
  6. The nikasil was just an American problem, with their crappy sulphur rich petrol. My cars done almost 260k's and its still got good compression & leakage. Simon, another member heres 540is has done almost 400k's, so these engines are sure as sure, strong.
  7. I recall seeing that one sell for 2,200 or something like that on a $1 res. Looks like someone is trying to make a few dollars... Unless it didn't sell and they're trying to resell it for a higher price.
  8. I do like the 535's, I originally looked into one in my hunt for an E34, but then went for the 540's after finding the 535i's I drove a little flat. Just seems a big difference 70BHP and 95nm between them... Especially in todays world, when a 540i is just over 200kw, is crushed by the 250-300kw Luxury sedans of today. Depends what you really want though. But, I wouldn't say no to a 535is if a good one came up.
  9. You can... but the 540i/540is is where its at. The 535i's and 530i's are down quite a bit on power & torque... getting a similar gas mileage to the 40's... Remember too, your pulling the same weight around. Take your pick..
  10. Hey mate Yeah the dealerships now days are pretty hopeless with cars of this type, they over value them and in a lot of cases know very little about them, unless they are supplied with paper work. There have a been a few good E34's around on Trade Me but it seems as of recently they have been snapped up.... or kept, like what I did with mine and likewise with Ian (creaver) I figured once you buy them, you may as well just keep and enjoy them, as to resell they can be pretty hard unless you have someone that knows what they want. Since keeping mine, I've committed to it, spend loads on it and will continue to do so until it gets written off by someone crashing into me or gets nicked. They are one of the BMW greats the E34's, much more desirable than the common E39's in my opinion, unless its a 2001, M sport 6 speed.... Anyway good luck with your search!
  11. Yeah exactly. Easily one of those things, do not forget it is a 19 year old car now. My 540i has small leaks from the rear main seal, a bit from around the oil pan sensor and the diff. Not major but you can see it if you look under the car, it rarely drips onto the drive way though.
  12. I rather like that alot. They should really call it the new 8 series, it's far more 8 series-ish than the current concept!
  13. This looks to be an excellent project Mike, what better a car too. Good on you!
  14. Ah I see. So your after something mid range, thats you can sort of treat as a 'trial' BMW that you wont have to keep for too long. If thats the case, it would probably be best to find something at a good price that you can sell later for the same sorta money, or more if you tidy it up. E39 525i's and 528's are probably your best bet. They aren't the fastest cars around, but still have the go when you need it, a shade under 145kw's I recall. There can be pretty good deals for those currently so have a look around. If your doing short trips, a 7 Series is not so ideal, a 5 would be more suited. The 7 should be more seen as a motorway mileage clocker, where you regularly travel long distances. Also being they are quite large cars especially, and weighty they can be excessive on gas in cities. What range is your budget exactly by the way?
  15. Pretty big difference to Honda's these cars. For one, they are rear wheel drive and weigh one and half times as much if not more. E39's are fairly good, but what model you are interested in? They do seem to have more problems and be less quality than E34 from what I've seen (and not look as good) E38's are rather fantastic, as long as you spend the money on a good one, as you can get yourself into a real financial nightmare with a problematic one. Same goes for most cars of course, but in particular these as you must remember they were one of most well optioned vehicles of their class in the mid 90's. If you do go for one it has to be a 740i, you will be wasting your time with a 728 or 730i - you may as well get out and walk. E46, Well I don't know too much about them, but they are far stretch nicer than E36's. A E46 330 or 328 would be my pick of the bunch. Let us know how you get on.
  16. Another pathetic revenue gathering strategy. It will never end!
  17. Hmmm E34 540is I would expect to pay anywhere over 10k, roughly twice the cost of an automatic 540ia, if not 3 or 4 times as much for an extremely immaculate example. Funny, I've had people ask me why didn't I get a manual one? Clearly I couldn't because they are rather rare, and a little out of my price range! The auto versions are just too cheap to ignore for that matter. I'd like very much to see more details about this car, picture of it and what not... I can see where Ray was coming from with the 'fairy tale' tone, wheres the details and actual asking price?
  18. They are quite good value those old Surfs. I had one last year.
  19. Haha. That would have been me. I study up that way, and regularly head up to the Albany Mall.
