Very nice 530i. God I love those wide kidney grilles. Best shape BMW ever had with it.

Hi guys, I'm curious, can you cut the rear well of a car, say make it 1/2 the depth if I took it to a professional engineering shop to cut out and re-weld it to the required specifications, obviously it would mean a narrower tire would have to be fitted and take up some boot space and the battery would have to sit higher. But the question is can it be done and certified, along with being WOF passable? Or is this also a structural thing you cant touch? The reason is to make space for a custom rear dual exhaust setup. Unfortunately there just is not enough room. Let me know. Cheers

M50B25 Vanos Camshaft upgrade options...
[email protected] replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
Haha yes. Also S50B30US. I wrote M50B30. Whoops! Dont worry about this thread anyway, I've been talking and aiming to replace the motor with another. Dear I say.... a non-BMW motor -
Must be epicly slow compared to your other cars though........ 2.0L in a BIG body..
-
Interesting. Well on my E34 it ended up being the case, when I think about it, it was not bad, but at certain rev points the resonance would rattle the mufflers and create a bit of a nasty noise. Not to my liking! In saying that, I believe the later model E39 exhausts are much better than the older noiser E34 types so what you say is probably quite true.
-
Not with the stock rear mufflers and no cats..... The entire system works as one to keep quiet. You need a full system if you take the cats out and dont put resonators back in. Otherwise bring on the Rattly rear muffler racket.
-
I would advise against this personally... If you do it, you would need some decent resonators in place after taking them out, otherwise it will sound somewhat trashy/tinny up top.
-
That would be a nice sight. Two of the nicest colours... period!

Your Top 3 most rubbish cars you have driven

1. Toyota Rav 4 1993 Automatic. 2. Diahatsu Move 1 Litre 1992 3. Honda Civic 1998 Manual. Horrid cars. -
As title, I'm after a cheap E36 Sedan or Coupe Automatic or Manual doesn't matter Must have a current wof and reg. With in north Island. K's aren't too much of an issue. Body doesn't have to be that good, just needs to be mechanically sound. Motor can be blown or needing replacement, as with gearbox. Let me know here if you guys know of anything or have something to link me too. Cheers!

That was a good laugh.

Going to a good home?

An E34 with an S62 is just slightly desirable.... Heck, I forget what k's your 540is has done Simon... I though my 540i with 260ks was too many. It wasn't but just needed a fair bit of suspension work to keep me happy, and I just didnt find it feasible at the time.

Heh, its that a big fat cannon muffler out the back?
-
That is a top example. Looks as good as my old one. Good luck with the sale, it's at a very good price I think.

M50B25 Vanos Camshaft upgrade options...
[email protected] replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
No one here has done any upgrades? -
Dont go E38... they are more trouble than they are worth. Big old heavy cruisers.. And at least with the 5 series, they are lighter, more sporty and more simple in certain ways. 535is would be far more fun and just as comfortable than any small engined 7 series.

After having mine, I would buy another when I have more money to splash about. But it would need to be manual. An auto one just wouldnt tickle my fancy. They really are a definitive BMW of the 90's, got all the character you could want, top quality, built to last, just a really nice car to be in if your behind the wheel of a decent one. My suggestion is go go for the 1993+ models as they came with a wider front kidney grill which just sets the car off.

Good stuff brent. Look forward to seeing the results with the s/c kit!
-
$110, thats just for bushes. I replaced the entire arms including ball joints & bushes, got a pair of Control arms for around $350 from Euro Italia and about the same for the thrust arms which were the actual problem causing the vibration.
-
Its a 530i... thats whats wrong. Also... the 80-90km/h wobble will take more than what is said to repair, its got the E34 shimmy and will need new lower control arms, the big ones, so thats about $400 in parts plus fitting and then an alignment so over $500 to repair. Its something you want to fix as that wobble is either starting to get worse or already really bad so the car shakes violently until you go faster than 90. I hated it when I first got my 540i last year.

Right, so I've been looking around the last couple of weeks for options to upgrade my stock M50 Vanos intake & exhaust camshafts The options seem to be M50B30 US cams... but they seem extremely hard to source being from US models. The other, Schrick cams, and I'm guessing a few other after market cam manufactures but what is a good local solution here in New Zealand for upgrading cams without importing stuff from the states etc? Also has anyone done cam upgrades on their Vanos M50, with dyno results, some I have seen show good figures, but I think its better telling from more local results rather that ones from USA or Europe. Any help would be good. Cheers Mike.

Not bad, but Im sure once you give it a good looking over you would find it a bit rough. Just seems clean on the surface but one you dig a bit I'm sure it would be in need of a fair bit of $.
