  1. Hah yeah, It seems 10w-40 is the most common used oil here. Apparently its what the BMW tech guys suggested to a friend of mine which works there when he asked them. So... Cheers, Its a good car, I love the colour I have to admit. Main objective is to get a 5 speed manual box from Brent and fit the full exhaust I have ready for it. Get it running right and go from there onto finding an LSD and rebuilding it. I have quite quickly found the stock 5 speed auto is quite a joke, but I need to put up with its lame jerky changes for the next month. Sigh! Still... you just cant find a good manual E36 Coupe everday, hence why I have gone down this path. Already liking it more than my E34, apart from the el-cheapo door and rear cards which I need to sort out. The rest of it is quite well made.
  2. Yeah that is what I was thinking. I often read too much into things. Sigh! Nice car by the way, yours has the Motorsport 17" alloys I would like to replace my 16's.
  3. So Im currently using Castrol Magnatec 10w-40 in my M50B25 325i, was doing some reading and it got me thinking. Is this oil okay during a Summer in Auckland, aren't the summer temperatures getting too hot for this oil grade? From what I gather its ideal for the cooler winter temperatures, but is it okay during summer? Any advice. (This has probably been covered in previous posts)
  4. Wow. That is really sad. I drove a 520 Auto, and that was shocking compared to my 540i. Love it how its too ashamed to have a 518i rear badge.
  5. G'day guys. Hmmm well its been 4 months since I had a BMW, and well I just had to buy another for a summer project. Something smaller, a little more fun. So I picked up a 1993 325i Coupe... Heres a picture of it, I must get some more soon. Dark Grey as you can see. Forget the German-Metallic name for it. So basically its in good order but being a 1993 E36 it does need plenty of TLC to get it up to my kind of standard. Over the next 3 months I will have it pretty sharp by the end. Heres what the plans are for this car. Strip the interior, re attach all sagging materials, door card skins, roof lining, respray faded materials, replace damaged interior trim, clean everything. Reassemble. New exhaust, long runner 3-1 headers, M3 cats, H pipes and mid muffler section, Remus rear muffler Custom cold air intake, probably with an Apexi filter. Retune. Manual Conversion, and most likely stock LSD changed to a taller ratio, stock I believe is 3.91 or 3.73 so 3.15 or 3.46 will be the plan New stereo, cables, amps and speakers. Motorsport front and rear bumpers 17" Motorsport wheels. So that is the plan with the car other than keeping it maintained and in good clean order. Should make for a decent machine. Far better than the boring Toyotas Ive spent too much time with.
  6. Um, a stock one is way more desirable.
  7. why anyone would want to waste their time with a 318i is beyond me.
  8. Im used to it. I love dental work. Could even call it fun.
  9. That is pristine looking. Certainly nicer than my BMW with twice the kms and that dull 5 speed auto.

That is awesome. Looking forward to the final product.
  11. SOLD to a good home.... I'm a bit now!
  12. I quite like it, but some of the details are a little busy. No to the eyelids. Should be good however.
  13. Haha, yeah. It was the biggest waste of money and the dumbest setup I had ever done.... But I learnt a lot from it! I love it factory, how it should be... not waking up the neighbourhood! Thanks. I believe I have a guy from here very interested in going for it, we will see
  14. New pictures of it cleaned. Comes up pretty good.
  15. What can I say... pathetic. Too many people forget cars are a dangerous piece of machinery and should be treated accordingly.
  16. This also has a tow bar, ideal for towing.. Appears it was fitted by Jerry Clayton BMW on the shore in the late 90's. Don't think this had much use recently, all the cables are there of course, mounted properly. I called BMW up and it was apparently it was serviced by Jerry Clayton from somewhere in the mid 90's up to 2001, but they had changed their PC system recently so the history was not fully viewable according to the guy I spoke with. The gearbox was also serviced by the Eastern Automatic shop, NZ's ZF specialists, the filter was done in mid 2007, and not too long ago this year. So to clarify the only lead issue with it at present is the drive shaft hanger/bearing being tired so it gives a minor vibration under slow speed acceleration at approximately 2000rpm. The electric drivers seat works intermittently, usually its okay when your stopped, I believe the control box relays are the culprit. Air condition is freezing cold, and goes hot. Love it. Sunroof is a blessing too, I think they all have them. Just a shame its too cold at the moment with them! Dash has the usual LIC light message, with the headlights on, apparently the number plate light not going, but it is. Very common issue with the E34s The rest of the electrics work great, no dead pixels on the dash scroll message. The bulbs for the OBC on the console have gone though, but you can read it at night with the keypad backlights lighting the LCD. I was going to fix it, but decided not to, as it was a MAJOR distraction when I was driving A few things I remembered tonight!
  17. Hmmm Ian, Get some Duran Sport-ones. I had them on my BBS' Best worst tires you can get, no wet grip, hard ride you name it Haha. Anyway, being serious, what about some Bridgestone Adrenaline RE001's? I was looking at them for my car. But I would make sure to get proper Japanese made ones.

Amazing project James, don't know how I missed it. The results will be superb. Hope the BBS wheels serve you well, missing them already!
