  1. Hi, I took this off as I put on a 'NZ New' or 'Euro style' version. Cheap. first to physically collect will secure. text me 0211503550 Lionel
  2. I got an 18mm from my coupe, but I re-used the links, so I just got the bar if that helps.
  3. Can anyone who has 2x of these and would like to discuss a deal pm me please. I have got 245/40-17's on the 7 1/2" rims and they dont look bad at all, but not ideal. Cheers Lionel
  4. As the title says I couldnt see the point of putting it on tardme...no one really looks for these things specifically. I had a 15mm, then replaced it with this that I got off Ray now I have gone up again, so this si good to go. Nothing flash what you would expect from a mid nineties condition swaybar really I have reused my bushes and links etc so you may have to modify your D-bushes if you have a 15mm bar or get some? 60 bucks, and pick it up from Ranui pm me, first email in the inbox I guess its first dibs to you. I aint going to muck around with freight or anything so please make it easy for me otherwise it can go to someone else nice easy upgrade Cheers Lionel
  5. I always use castrol 10-40w cause for the buck it works well, but I heard 15-40 is the dilley. I use just over 6 1/2 litres for my changes when the filter is done too. I change the filter every other one and it seems to hold up, mind you I do oil changes every 10k at it runs well me thinks. Would I use more expensive stuff...nah I aint a track day hero, its auto so I am hardly ever red-lining the thing anyways. I see some other countries use many other grades, but NZ is pretty moderate I think, so we dont really need the broad grades like you may do in countries with more extreme weather patterns. I dont anything really. oh I use semi-synthetics too, cause of the hoodoo. L
  6. To be honest I think the doors are the least of your aesthetic concerns on this car. That front bumper is...meh, rear bumper is just plain yuck, those front guards are against every idea I have ever seen on any car...the wheels are, well I dont think anyone on here would be gaggin for them put it that way. There is a lot of negative aspects, and for that I would think the doors are not anywhere near the top of my personal long list of 'not likes'. Not to mention as a coupe owner, the amount of rain that gets into one of these things is bad when there is a deluge, the amount of rain that is going to get in when you are shuffling people in the back and so forth or just yourself will make this a nightmare in winter with those Lambo doors.
  7. Right, this looks a lot easier than the trademe ones which need extra wiring etc. A slight improvement for not that much outlay. Maybe with some gauge rings it might look a bit more something something.
  8. Cheers Matt Your thread was all I needed to know really, awesome, mine will require more work in some ways as I have 2 piece, so I will be doing a little more work on the lips and of course pullin them to bits and re torque'n etc etc, but over xmas I spose I will have a bit of time...and I will need it for a diy! on those buggers! Cheers.
  9. Where would I get those from? The net is not happenin when I try to search for them! Cheers
  10. Hi guys, I am thinking about having a play around with the gauge cluster and seeing if I can spruce it up a bit. These are the two off trademe. Has anyone had any experience with these things? From what I can tell, there are two types, one is just an overlay and there is no additional wiring or anything, its std, so it just lights up differently, want a different glow, you have to change the bulbs themselves. Then there are these ones, they are overlays that come with additional 'stuff'. I dont know if the first type is available, but in any case, what would you guys suggest? Any opinions? Are they are hassle? not worth it? Cheers. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=310364314 http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=310151973
  11. An 18yo with a 530i MS, nice! Looks like AM headlights? If I can get into one of those before I turn 48, I would be happy. You must be estatic! Congrats, I hope it is everything you want it to be!
  12. Happy with mine, quality job, I went with the upsell and it looks like quality to. Seth got into the front window channel on my coupe which was better then my previous tint, they didnt and it looked pretty amateur in comparison to Seth's job, the windows now look like tinted glass as oppossed to glass with tints on them, and if you like ya car, you will like it more after you have visited Seth, a but like giving your car a new haircut. I cant wait for summer, to really appreciate the benefits, because I always wondered why I could still suffer from quite alot of heat coming through the glass area, with quite dark tints. Now I know. There is quality and there is darkness, and one doesnt infer the other. Seth, thanks for the education. For what is a small outlay (compared to other BMW mods and maintenance) this is a no brainer. 13. Whether you sell your car or fix it up to what you want you are going to be spending money. Its probably easier to do yours up, I would usually think, but if you have never taken out a dashboard I would have reservations giving you that advise. The only other alternative is to sell yours, but amongst other things you have the dreaded jatco jerk. Personally, I would get chummy with some dudes on here, maybe go to some of the meets, and see if you can rouse some attention to your dilemma. E36's are being disassembled every other day, black dashboards are not that hard to find, cards in decent nick are quite a bit harder, but most a mud anyway. All you need is an E36 being wrecked and take what you can, a motorsport pref, as you like the MS seats (half leather ones) probably be other stuff you may like too like the black headliner. What you really need is someone to help you without relieving you of too much coin in the process. That jatco jerk is a bugger Have a yarn to our sponsors, they have these conversations everyday.
  14. I replaced my rears with old secondhand bilsteins std not the HD ones, and they still had more resistance in them than my original boge 150km jobbies. The Bilsteins looked liked they had a fair few on them as well, but since they were both shorter (good because I put in shorter springs) and offerred more resistance I whacked them in. Before I did though, I rang Autolign or somewhere, forgotten now out of interest, and the bloke said you were (I) better off replacing with new than rebuilding them, because of the trivial parity in difference being around 300 plus to rebuild, it might make the fronts worthwhile but not the rears. This would have made my lowering process vastly more expensive and well out of my budget, this was 2 months ago. The idea of rebuilding shocks has some appeal, but if the price is what you would pay for new, it takes the shine of somewhat. But hey if you got the money, go hard
  15. Hey matt Where did you get this done? How much approx? I am thinking of getting my centres done. There is slot of talk about the 'issues' with powdercoating alloys, and I think the jury is out on whether it messes with the alloy, specifically its strength, etc, what did your 'engineer' say? Lionel
  16. " that its more likely to be stolen sitting an inch lower to the ground!" Are you serious? Jesus, I would have had some fun talking to that person! Based on what? They must have read the latest 2010 jd power survey of standard vs lowered vehicles stolen potentiality study? What a crock!
  17. Yep, I hesitated many times, thinking I would definately get that next time, of course I didnt cause the housing would crack and I couldnt wait, but if I have any further issues, oh yeh I am gettin one off Turner I reckon.
  18. Heater control valve, esp on 6 cylinder models, this probably costs more than the above draft list though and as far as I can tell there is no 'easy' fix. But thats me. I did the fan delete mod, so that means bye bye viscous, which means better access in the long run to everything in the front, for example was easier to replace my crankshaft position sensor. Not to mention I have replaced my thermostat housing thrice!

    E36

All things being equal which they definately are not, a well maintained and cared for 328i is hard to beat. BUT, and its a big BUT, if you are keen on 'doin her up' try to get a motorsport if thats your thing. Getting one up to spec is not worth it in the end. If you can get one with all of the major stuff done like shocks, radiator, waterpump, thermo, ball joints, etc etc, I could go on, but the more done the less you have to do regardless of which one you choose. Once you have driven a good 328i, its hard to take anything smaller unless of course its in great nick, blah blah.my 2c
  20. You have a zillion options to answer that question. I suggest having a look at the many fine E36's on this site and then others first. Have a look at the offsets of the rims, then the width and profiles of the tyres, what rubs, what doesnt with what suspension set ups, very few std ones on here. Depending on what you do, will dictate 'filling the guards nicely'. On this site alone, you will have a plethora of different ways where members have 'filled the guards'. I dont know why you have chosen 225/40, but on an 18" (I am assuming) rim, you shouldnt have too many problems, and your range of offsets will be pretty good, but this is also partly dependant on the width of the rims. Put it this way, if you wanted to put 265/30's on a 9.5" rim, then you would have to be pretty much to the millimetre. But to hazard a guess, and being conservative, offsets of around et32 to et38 on a 18x8" rim, with 225/40's all round should look alright. BUt as I said, have a look at the cars and make sure you take their suspension set ups into account. Good luck. I would say everyone here with an E36 has tried to answer this very question...and just look at the very different responses.
  21. The ole P6 aye, I used to own one of these. I had my cousin tune the twin carbs and it took him forever with some archaic device. I wish mine had a holley, mine you it was smooth as hell when it was in tune. They are smooth, and yeah it may be quieter than an e36 in general, but I would prefer my 328i in the twisties and overall. The more I pulled mine apart the more work I had to do to it to make it work correctly. I pulled the dash out at one stage and counted 38 screws or something ridonkulous. Some parts of that car are well over engineered, even by BMW standards. If I was to do it again, I would just get the best leather conditioner you can get and work those seats and drive it till something needs attending to...which wont be that far down the track. I wanted a 5 speed, then maybe a fuel injected 4litre, the list went on of course, but the maintenance just kept coming and those mods never transpired. I pulled the head off mine and it was sludged to hell, if I was to do that again, I would probably just throw motorup into it and pray for awhile. Good luck, at least its different...I do more work on my bloody 328i than I ever did on my rover and that is saying something.
  22. I just replaced mine, so I got a front pair, nothing wrong with them, text me on 021 150 3550. I also live westside if that helps.
  23. Still like the second set, but 17's vs 17's or 18's vs 18's would have been a fairer comparison.
  24. Not worth it. If he indicated they were 4x17"x7" 'fronts' in the sub-heading, he would get even less hits. Most people want 8" plus rims on their E36, esp on the rear. My 2c.
