Not one, but two E36 compact race cars.

First was on a trailer heading onto Southern motorway race number 318.

Second one was being driven on the western motorway, black with RCIS stickers on it.

They seem to be replacing the E30 as the track car of choice, maybe as the E30 is getting to expensive to be a base anymore?

i was very happy with my compact race car, but ultimately, would rather have it all in an E30 so reshelled it into my E30 coupe.

The E30 wasn't stopping very well, so it was time for a brake overhaul.

New pads, rotors, rebuilt calipers, braided brake lines, and brand new master cylinder originally fitted to the bigger 7 series of the same era. Oh, and new tyres, Bridgestone RE003.
Car stops much better, success! Off for a WoF on Tuesday.

Unpainted one is from the E32, noticeably beefier

  4. I've been watching quite a few Top Gear episodes lately, Clarksen et al of course. there is so much content it is impossible to remember everything. haven't watched any of the new new top gear apart from the first three episodes of the ginger presenter whatever his name is bouncing about the place and deciding it wasn't for me.

  5. late to the party sorry, usually just drop the rear exhaust hangers and the transmission subframe so the whole assembly tilts down when i do anything related to the trans/gearbox.

Also as above on the control arms, plenty of room for a small club hammer on the exhaust side, you need to be a bit more creative using whats available to you on the intake side. don't use a pry bar between the arm and the subframe, you can damage the ball joint and/or the arm.

    Yeah, me too.

Watched a guy set the pressure on the tyre pump to 52 PSI the other day... for a 90's Corolla on 14's... suggested about 15 PSI lower might help his tyres last longer.

perhaps it has a slow leak. or he is going drifting. or planning to store the car for 6 months. you are probably right tho ha.

Ford recommend 49.7psi for my daily.

  8. i have plenty of spare bodies here if you want to practice on some cars that don't matter if you stuff it up before you start on your own car.

i also have an arc welder you are welcome to use any time, probably not useful for what you want to do, but i used it to build the frame and drawbar for the E30 BBQ trailer and it did just fine, need to strengthen up my car trailer too at some stage... getting a bit cold now tho ha.

  9. another consideration, i saw on a US forum that a guy had a sump guard, was attached to the chassis rails, nice and solid right, yep saved his sump, at the expense of the body which bent.

I have never run a sump guard in any of my E30s, (3 of them M52 swapped), and never busted a pan. you don't need one if you know how to drive properly and your cars suspension is road legal.

sourced from Mike at Euroturbo along with his driveshaft hoops that meet all certification specifications and are designed and made by his business here in NZ.

    Awesome work mate!

I used his hoops in my conversion, they required different bolts and spring washers as the ones provided weren't up to standard, also remember to leave the carpet out before presenting the car.
