  1. Looks like the timing reference tab has broken off my flywheel and smashed the crank sensor to bits in the process.

I havnt pulled the box out yet, just that front lower bellhousing plate and it looks like the tab has been disintegrated as i cant see it sitting there. Theres just a whole lot of shredded crap from the tab and sensor. I painstakingly rotated the motor only to find a small hole where I assume the tab is supposed to be??

Im in the market for a new flywheel but also wanting to consider the option of getting a new tab welded onto my flywheel.

How do i go about doing this? Is the tab magnetic?

  2. All non m3 racks are pretty much the same with the 3.2 ratio.

If you can do without power steer, mods to the rack (incl. cutting extra teeth), rack spacers and machined down tie rods (as seen in bottom pic of link above) will give you plenty of lock without messing with the knuckles/geometry.

  3. You would want to use an e36 rack for starters (3.2 turns lock to lock vs 4 ifor an e30).

I had a good look and couldnt find any kind of an off the shelf rack spacer so had to make my own by having the i.d of a 27mm washer taken out to 18mm. I had to use two 3mm washers each side and thats the most you can go as the rack is limited in movement after that (unless you pull it apart and remove the power steering components).

  4. I'll the let the auctions run separately at this stage and see how they go before I look at package deals.

Are you after the whole lollipop mount or just the bush? The bushes are Powerflex urethane, as are the rear trailing arm bushes and the rear subframe bushes. I was thinking I would start an auction this weekend selling them as a group, maybe $250 reserve?

Was really after the mount and the bush to make it easy to swap into my car. Could be interested in all the bushes though. How old are they? Show any signs of wear?

  5. You should really look at trying to blow thru the maf as off throttle your bov will be opening allowing the s/c to continuously draw air through the maf. Does it seem to run really rich when the bov is open/backing off throttle?

Also with that s/c on a s50, you would need to have a larger crank pulley than that on the s/c to overdrive it. By my rough calcs, it will need to be overdriven by 1.5times to get 5psi.

  6. Ok so it was the steering rack itself apparently. Now I'm in the process of swapping it over for another, but the Universal Joint won't come off the pinion on the old rack, and I can't figure out how to get it off, nor how to manoeuvre the rack out of the car?! Seems there is no space between the sump and the mounting brackets.

Anyone have any tips? I really want to get this sorted today so I can finally get my WoF!

Having recently done the same thing, the steering joint can be a bit stubborn but you should be able to get it off with multiple wacks with a big screwdriver (or maybe something similar that wont damage the alloy) and a big hammer.

You need to bend down the tabs the rack is mounted on to get it out then bend them back up once the new rack is in.

  7. on a related topic too, anyone got any ideas for getting baked on silicon shine stuff off the engine bay? Degreaser?

Dealer went apeshit with the shine when i got the car, didnt have time to clean it off and now its left everything looking manky (discoloured plastics, paint etc)

Oven degreaser stuff. Works a treat.

  8. Ok maybe its you cant use the hydraulic handbrake when you use the brakes...does that sound right??

Is there no way of mounting a second set of calipers in an e30?

I just see another pair of calipers the ultimate way of doing it but the cost wouldnt really be worth it over just running it inline.

  9. Possibly a bit early yet, i will do it again late feb early march if numbers are there, though if enoughh people interested now i can do it. I know my friend is waiting for another set too..

As discussed in PM a month or so ago, you know im 100% in on a pair when you next decide to do them.

    I'm keen.

These plates are actually illegal right? You guys had any problems wearing them on the road?

No, they technically aren't legal but made to look pretty much the same and I doubt you would run into many problems with cops picking them out and giving you a hard time for it.

  10. Is there any way to lock the centres on? I can just twist mine off by hand, kind of handy since my tool is broken but on the other hand don't want them stolen!

Mine can come off very easily too. Its a worry and how mine was lost. When I get my new set, I'll look at somehow making them lock or stay on better.
