  1. Hopefully can make some good power now and not have 120+ intake temps!
  2. In other news! Sold the 335i, bought a momo wheel, hub adapter and a set of xyz’s coil overs for the compact, so spent a couple days fitting all that up, pumping the rear guards to fit the 17x9.5 arc-8’s, as well as getting the intercooler system plumbed up and working
  3. It came!!! such a work of art!
  4. Was looking to build up a spicy m42 for my e30, but would cost about the same as this, and already have a set of RHD itbs, and be cool to have another S motor in the stable
  5. What would you say drivability would be like if it was in a street car…
  6. Took the 335i for a wof a few weeks ago…but turns out it had been green stickered, so had to take it to VINZ/VTNZ to sort that. But my usual wof man said about the tint strip being a bit low. So pulled that off to reveal it was cracked underneath 😪. So $600 later it has a new windscreen. Then yesterday finally had time to take it to VINZ, $203 for the pleasure and it passed!! So now to sort the horrendous exhaust, in both looks and noise, tidy up the rear bumper, enjoy it for a bit then sell it on to put the funds towards the m3, compact and e30. Treated the M3 to an expensive little something two weeks ago, that will hopefully be here just before xmas… so will post that once it’s here

  8. sorted. Cheers Ray! In need of a replacement high pressure fuel pump if someone has a good working one they’d like to part with. Don’t want to fork out $1300-$2k for a new one if possible.
  9. 335 update fitted new wheel centre caps, got codes cleared, still had adaptive headlight code, so replaced module today and all good again. After fitting the 19s the diff was making a hell of a noise, so pulled that out to find the centre was seized up. So pulled a good one out at the Wrecker today and fitted that and drives like a dream… apart from it goes into limp mode due to low fuel pressure. So on the hunt for one of those now, but is good enough to go for a wof now atleast. Also got an engine cover so they’ll stop water getting into the spark plug wells. Compact update: Fab man has finished his part putting the water to air cooler into the manifold, mounting the exchanger up front and a water tank and headlight washer tank. Now I need to do the water piping and wire up the pump and can get that working and tuned again!
  10. 335 update! spent the last couple weeks chipping away at this. Replace spark plugs, rocker gasket, oil filter housing and cooler gaskets, got myself a cheap walnut blasting setup and cleaned the intake ports, they were pretty gross! Cleaned out intake manifold, flushed coolant out and replaced, new oil and filter, new battery, new smoked fog lights, replaced headlight lenses and painted the inside bits all black since the chrome on the one with the broken lens was all coming away, new led halo lamps as well. Had a spare set of wheels that I got for the e39, style 125’s, 19x8 et20, 9.5 et32, but never painted, so got them done and new tires and now she’s ready to hit the streets…to have it scanned to clear some codes, register the new battery and injector and make sure it’s all good, then off for a wof, get the ding man to pop a couple wee dents out and a detail to get it gleaming.
  11. It’s alive!!! Fired up straight away, but with a dead no.4 cylinder. got the rear wheels on and went for a spin round the yard and seems to drive alright. After “machining” down a socket to fit down the spark plug well, it didn’t appear to be getting any fuel, so suspect a dodgey injector. Will track one of those down and swap that over and see what happens and get a scanner onto it to see what else is going on.
  12. Penis or genius? So e39 has sold and gone, so have bought a e90 335i sight unseen for $1000 with no wheels or key. Finally arrived and laid eyes on it last Thursday and whipped the dme and cas out of it to get a new key made, which should all be back tomorrow to see if it’s a runner or not. All I knew was it was black and had 17x,000kms on it. wish me luck!
  13. very nice! I have a soft spot for the 4 cylinder fronted e21s. welcome to the forum
  14. What part of the country? I know a man in dunedin selling one
  15. Not. Just start from the sc in.
  16. That it is! went for a tune…but belt wasn’t tight enough so Melted it and destroyed it. also intake temps were hitting about 120-130, so looks like it’s time to add a water to air cooler integrated into the manifold.
  17. Swapped pulleys on the compact so is now making 9psi. Seeing a man about a tune tomorrow. Should be rowdy!

  19. Have been forging ahead with the e39. Has its first new warrant and rego since 2014! Was failed second time round on the broken inner mirror surround, so temp fixed that with some expanding foam and a layer of epoxy, and a rear arm outer Spherical bush. So replaced both left and right arms and now good to go. following day had it booked for a detail and now have it looking brand new…ish. Paint was all dull and stained, but that’s all gone, but now can notice all the deep chips and scratches. So will get some touch up paint and try tidy them up a bit. Next issue Issue to sort last night was no lower cluster lights around the lcd display. Gauges are all lit but not there. So pulled it out to replace the lamps but tested them first and all working, so had a google and everything I found was for the while dash, not just that bit so back to square one. Also tried the “piezo trick” to fix the missing pixels. Managed to get one line working but then it killed the whole display. But a power cycle fixed that and my fixed line wasn’t going again. So need to replace the ribbon, or the whole cluster to sort the lighting issue as well. oh, also started wrapping the wood trim with a brushed alloy. Not sure if I’m sold on it or not.
  20. So turns out I’m a blind idiot! after what I thought was testing the exhaust cam sensor to be faulty, and swapping it into a running car, it still ran. And swapping the good one into mine it still wouldn’t go. But after poking around testing relays and power to things I noticed I had missed the earth tucked under the loom into the computer cubbyhole. Put that back on and boom! Way she goes.

  22. Yea think you’re right there. After having a chat with a man today he would think it is a cam or crank sensor issue not giving a signal to fire. And I did unplug it to clean a heap of oil around it so that could be a good place to start
  23. Did a motor exchange with mad_max over Waitangi weekend. Drove down to Invercargill and pulled out his e39 m54 and took it back home and gave it a looking over to see what needed replaced on it. Parts arrived on Tuesday, so weds fitted new belts, water pump, t.stat, ccv and hoses, new exhaust studs and valve cover gasket and all ready to go in. so today took me 5 hours to get motor in and everything hooked up and front end all back on ready to drive out the garage. But tried to start it and cranks but no sign of wanting to go. Fuel pump is priming and have pressure on the rail so pulled a plug and no fuel in cylinders so injectors arnt firing. Any ideas??? Car was running the day we pulled it out, so no issues on that side, and have rechecked all the plugs and bits are connected so maybe an ews issue??
  24. Pulled the motor out the e39 and stripped the box off all ready to exchange for a good running one from Mad_Max. Garage is a bit tight for room so just left it on the crane and rolled it back into the engine bay until it’s time to go.
