nice topic, I have been screwed a few times with insurance. I was thinking to insure mine, full cover. Wouldn't mind going "Classic" policy. for something cheap and good. for a 328i around $8,000, I sometimes use it as DD but often it sits in my driveway, I live in a small town, everything is at hands reach so doesn;t matter I wont be putting too many k's on it. could you guys name the companies you are with? Particularly intrested with Allan & Brents company.

thanks andrew, will do. yea so many people dont even bother cleaning let alone recharging these. When I first took out the filter it was clogged with dust, I cleaned it up pretty good. but now it looks black and not red like the oiled ones so I thought maybe it died from being dry for years.. since it hasn't been reoiled for so long I thought of buying a new one and maintan that. But if recaharging does the job then I might aswell wash it again and reoil it with the kit and use that. PS: are there any downsides of taking out the snorkel? it wont suck in hot engine air and decrease performence or something? my one is already cracked and chipping lol. I love the stock look of my engine bays so rather not get a CAI if I can mimic the sound with doing a few mods to my stock airbox without losing any torque or power curve. will have the air box out, still pondering on drilling holes at the bottom away from top hot engine air(before the filter) like the audi guys do..

looked at some DIY's and I am doing this tomorrow, will take teh baffle out as well as the snorkel. mi snnorkel is a bit rotted/chipping away anyway, but I only kept it thinking it provided fresh air, why bother. should I get a new K&N filter aswell, Currently have an old N&N inside which I washed with soap water but I dont have anything to re oil it, so either this old K&N filter or a new one..I was thinking to just get the BMW OEM filter from milland, I know its the better one but will the sound of the K&N be better over the stock? pic of the euro airbox snorkel, but I dont think I am going to be doing anything like that, I'll just take the baffle and snorken and see how it goes.

I could add a small plastic duct at the botom too? Yea I just want it for the intake sound, I know there is no ~ very little gain, or sometimes worse. thats why I never bothered till now. I have heard audi guys make small holes at the side of their airbox, which gives them the sound similar to a pod filter. what if I kept the snorkel since it provides cool air from out side and drilles / hole saw some holes on the box itself? Link me to any DIY's if you have any in mind. I already have a K&N filter inside the stock airbox, but looks old, so was thinking to repalce it with a genuine BMW one since I heard K&N aren't much good and sometimes end up restricting a few hp's. for now I just want the sound. and if I can keep the stock look under the engine bay, then thats even better,

Looking to put together a DIY Cold air intake for my 328i. Will make it long ram lowered to the break duct near the bumper. Was thinking to go with plastic tubes/pipes w/silicon hose over metal pipes. however I know polished metal intake would look more appealing. Link me to stuff fellow bs members are using. Also is it true it reduces power? I'm doing it for the sound.
-
seriously? made of planks? not that i would do anything like that but if you do just for the show and then take them off, then i gues more power to you. this got me keen to see your drift/show car?

in the market for a grocery hauler & realiable dd/tourer hatch to perhaps replace my other car. where can i see some more pictures please? thanks.

Thanks, I think you guys talked me out of doing it for the good. I never bothered much with rims and any of these stuff on my cars, yea, I was leaning towards at the slip on stuff becuse I want that beasty look of filling in the wheel arches really. and I heard it improved handeling too. anyway, here's a pic of the car in question, I haven't washed it since I got it, I am doing some work this week, after that I should be done. for now this is the crap camera pic from trademe. wheels are pretty full but I just wanted a more agressive look and "stance" or whatever they call it.
-
total cost? youtube video clip of the sound? I wanted to go the same route but ended up deciding not to do much on this car, sold the cams yesterday and will not buy any serious performance parts since i'm planning to leave eventually, rather save what I dont need.
-
i gotta take the wheel off to messure it don't I? I dont know what the rims are exactly else would had googled it. i was thinking to get slipon ones like this http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=708517418 in either 8mm or 12mm with larger studs
-
I know most guys would overlook it so might just do it, maybe take them off before a wof.. do you know where to get them from? red line performence has some, but not sure if the right ones...you saw my car real well, you would know if 15mm is the right size all around? 20mm just looked too much. i just want some stance and + handeling. does that apply to engine & final drive (LSD) mods aswell? my car hasn't been insured yet. i might just keep it that way.
-
that was a good read. thanks so it seems it probably wont be worth it to me, nearly $400 for the 20mm set and then $500 more for a cert. even smaller spacers as 5 - 7 mm will need a cert..right?
-
anybody know what sort of wheel spacers do i need, my car is lowered and I am running some nice 17" BBS Wheels currently (1995 328i). I am not sure of the size or correct ones needed but understand that the 10mm ones aren't reccomended as they may cause issues and stuff below that wont show much of a stance. I just want some stance nothing over the top. I saw a set being sold on trademe by redline, are those the ones everybody here runs? I just need some options and openions to run the correct spacers on my car. thanks forgot to mention, when I add wheel spacers, do I have to go get an wheel alingment for another $150 from the local shop??

SORRY, CAMS ARE NOW SOLD/PENDING SALE!
-
Dont shoot the messenger. but yea thats what everything I read said, and its pretty much dyno proven too in most of the yank and pom forums. They do this cam swap on their cars combined with the m50 manifold, a cold air intake and the car makes good numbers, with few more mods as a full exhaust, headers and a proper tune (they use some shark software) the 328i makes more than that 220 RWHP's with little work. again thats what it says everywhere I have been reading for the past year. This was a helpful topic, I read all 39 pages there..good info.. http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?544874-Official-M50-Manifold-Swap-Thread anyway, close the topic..I was just trying to get back what I spent since I didnt feel the need for more power...however I didn't really find much intrest so instead of taking the loss I decided to use them myself after a couple of weeks. If anybody wants them they can PM me...
-
Havent seen much intrest here or on trademe, decided if nobody takes them by the end of next week, then instead of taking the loss I might just install and use them myself one weekend. and once tuned it should make nice power.

bought a Y adapter from a local shop today, its not exactly 2 into one as in 2 pipes joining into one as \ / but more like one big V into an small I. So one whole piece; which works also since I needed one in an angle, With our cars if we got an universal one in 2 out remus like I did then we need a Y adapter that is angled a bit since thats how the factory muffler is mounted, and for one to go into the M bumper properly the tips cant exceed 85mm each and also the muffler needs to be installed in an angle. We are going to weld it in next week. Will post results after, but I am sure it will be good.
-
where did u get one of those? my guy is an expert welder should I ask him to do it his way, I reckon it'll be cheap too since I am getting some custom welding work done from him anyway.
-
I wanted them to be twin in twin out aswell, but all the remus universal ones I saw on sale were single in dual out. I guess I will just take it to the guy and see what he says, if he can't do it then I'll take it to the muffler shop.
-
do you know how the inside looks on the exhaust/mufflers on these cars? I see twin pipes meeting the muffler, so I was thinking they need a Y adapter pipe to weld the two and merge into one to do the job? How hard of a job it is overall, I mean its not like a job that reqires any special tools that only the muffler shop can do? Because I know this guy who runs a small operation in the next town and people I know get things done from him often, he can weld, paint, do car body and panel repairs, his prices are good. I am going to him later this week to get some work done, so was wondering if I should get him to do it for me?

Will let the cams go, can deliver to auckland next month or ship at your expense. Just trying to get back what I spent. not making a profit here(have receipts too aswell as what I paid for the NZ customs to release them). let me know if you guys are keen. this is money better spent then headers or an exhaust.
-
What part of auckland do you live in? dont park where you are parking it, if its repeated then its probably .......... (you know whos)... kids mucking around or fellow bmw owners using yours to fix their cars up. I have seen this too often and the temptation of a newly waxed bmw sitting in the street makes it a hard choice for a lot of people.I have had many things stolen in Auckland. 2. Russian Bear Attack. Tint your windows real dark, buy a bottle of water, buy a few packs of chips, couple 6 packs, some rope, bricks and sit inside the car and wait for them to show up, catch them in the act and proceed to.............................. ............................................................................................................................................................................................................................ * I am a nice person and everything I say on these forums are for entertainment purposes only, what works for me may not work for everyday members of society, I personally do not advocate you do such things unless in "self defense".
-
how much are you paying or people here pay to have it welded on? is the price of $150 about right? I never really bothered with mufflers in my previous cars. They all either came with a muffler or the factory standard one.
-
makes perfect sense I also agree best results would be to take it down to a shop and have it remapped based on the dyno. there's a good shop in auckland , its called Hi Velocity - the BMW Performance Specialist web address - www.hivelocity.co.nz - the guy has a good set of everything bmw remaps, he will set it up in no time and would be better then the shark software. With these cams the results I have seen with a few other bolt ons as M50 manifold, cai and exhaust are just as much as the US S52B30 M3. Which I believe produced around 250HP at the crank and ran similar 0 - 60 time to the EU spec S50B32.(dont quote me on the last bit) I think I will let go of just the cams minus the software. I sent out a few PM's they are on the fence. let me know if anybody wants them. I can bring them to auckland next month or someone I know is going down there this week end.
