What you are looking into is I think called a stroker motor where they achive similar results to a S50B32. I havent done enough reading but there are a few topics floating online, but thats a lot more involved, taking the whole motor out, taking off heads, pistons, easily a lot more then just the 40 hours of your life reading. I wanted something simple so got these, its popular in north america, But I am happy with my car as it is. Just take the cams man, and get a tune from the botany shop for better results. I'll cut down the price a bit and try to sell the software elsewhere or count my losses. The cams fit on M50 too but not a direct swap without a few more bits, I think the carriers and lfters are a bit diffrent in M50 but I may be able to get them from my contact in US.

really trying to get back some of my money even at 1K. but I might then part with the software for the right price, send me your offers. thanks pretty sure I did reaserch on those, I think it was a slightly different route some people used them on building a strokers. too much trouble. The m3 cams are the better option overall, ideally everybody in US just picks these intake and exhaust cams off the US spec M3's and simply swap them in and out with their m52, do the software and done.

sent you a message, I might part with the software and sell it seperate for the right price..just trying to get some of my money back as it was an impulse buy, I also had to pay nz customs. trust me you are getting a deal. drop me a line if anybody is intrested, give me your offers, maybe I will list it here or on trademe. I am sure I'll find someone there willing to spend the asking price or clsoe.

I picked one up for around $150. Its single in twin out, but my stock one has twin in twin out, so I am thinking we will need a Y adapter. anybody know the price to have mufflers installed in these cars?i a local shop gave me an estimate of $150 over the phone. is that about right?

SOLD/PENDING SALE!

^ this guy was a great help, I couldnt had bought the car without him helping me out. kudos. anyway, so is that what most people are using on their cars? should I grab one of those remus mufflers on trademe and have it welded on with a Y pipe adapter? not sure if they will have fitment issues with my rear m bumper.

thanks brother, so far I have spent around 8-9K total on the car plus parts to beef it up, got the lsd too, most went towards importing m3 cams for my motor and then the lsd. I have a few bits and pieces to buy and mount like the xbrace and then will post some pics. hence one of the reasons why i came back. Yea, i went to pay the whole price and searched remus and came up with these. which one have you got aand how does the remus sound over the factory muffler? does it have that raspy tone in idle? I dont want the whole system at $900, so I am thinking to pick up one of these three for a couple of hundread. this one http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/performance/exhaust/auction-704996887.htm not sure if I like the one with the angled tio too much, http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/performance/exhaust/auction-704997757.htm

E36 M3 Electrical issue - Headlights, ODO, Taillights, Instruments
MoJoJoe replied to DrphTa's topic in Electrical system
open your cars trunk, pull the wiring loom on the left side civered in rubber, thats the culprit that causes many electrical problems, if you notice you will see the wires are mangled togather in many cases are cut and touching other wires or have be melted togather in worse case I would start from there. you will be surprised the problems it can solve. -
How ya guys doing? I wanted to get an aftermarket exhaust system but decided to settle on just a good muffler that makes my 328i sound more alive, Curently its got the stock one with 2 polished tips. Not looking for the chinease fart cans but something that sounds nice, raspy and deep in idle and daily driving.. I saw some borla and remus mufflers from RP in trademe and was thinking to take one of these ones and have it welded on with a Y adapter?. http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/performance/exhaust/auction-704996887.htm http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/performance/exhaust/auction-704997845.htm http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/performance/exhaust/auction-704997757.htm PS: I couldnt login since JAN, account was compromised? password didnt work and everytime I tried to reset the password the forum kept telling me I entered the wrong code. few other members I know had the same problem, I asked phil and jared to pass it on to the forum admins(Josh?).

Kind of same here. but forbade myself from saying it here among his fans, death of one person is a tragedy, death of a few million is a statistic of which most dont care. but as dave points out, he became more likable over the years I suppose, like it or not guy is a racing legend and would be a loss to the F1 scene, but I myself don't care enough for just his legacy of a F1 legend, No, but for the sake of his family I hope he does pull through and drives down the track one last time.

hehe, maybe one of these days i want to see whats this fuss is about.. whats the going rate for an e30 m3? or whats the next best thing it? I know a good 36 m3 can be had for around 15K ~ 20K. But I am afraid a good e30 m3 would cost just as much if not more. very soon Jared, I'm 90% there,...very soon... just looking for someone to free up so they can tag along with me to pick up the car(which ever one I pick the one with 140K or the 300K)

Personally I was more of a 80's Merc & Chevy guy, Yes I currently have a jap car and I have driven Nissans, Hondas and Subarus too. The thing with the e30 is..... well for me its the shape of the car, i cant get myself to like it. e36 seems to have a more refined styling while keeping some of the retro looks, nor can I get myself to like the e39 or e46 much for the record, apart from the msport variations. So neighbor had a e30 I think and although I may agree you feel more attached to the road, thats about it. Buying one off the shelf honestly doesn't feel like a very good deal, honestly even the e30 m3 didn't seem to offer much, If I'm correct it was a revy 4 pot and made 190HP. My first bmw was a 318is e36 that I bought some 5 years ago, I think they now go for half what then used to, so that may influnce my decision, but to me the e36 is still overall a better car, imo, although the e30 maybe a better drivers car. proof! ............that it is a better car. in 10 years with some gray hair I will probably be saying this to some guy about the e46. but point taken Andy edit: all that said, how do e30 motors go as far as mileage? Are they better, more reliable and longer lasting then the motors used on e36 cars at the same km's?

Seen, worse. australia is the ricer heaven for bmws, if you ever go Sydney, you will know what I mean. cat is not too bad, all we need is to remove the wing, redo the exhaust, the rear bumper with the farming mesh, paint it black and we got a nice car. dont know why newer bmws look so ugly, for a second there I was fooled to think the wing actually was stock.

I am just looking at this one on the side, I came across this, I was just curious about the high mileage and stuff. the car looks very tidy and well looked after, almost as much as that other blue one. I picked 3 cars. A Red one which I dropped earlier since it had too many problems and the interior was falling apart, A Blue one also in waikato which is very very good overall with 140K on the odo (somebody tested it) , a bit pricy but worth it, still working on it with the seller, hard to find somebody willing to tag along at the moment. unfortunately I live quite far from both cars, the waikato car is around 600Km trip to and back and the Taranaki, NP car is around 1200KM / 14hr trip to and back. so you can see coming down in and out every time to check a car is not a very viable option. but i am trying to see if I can find someone in Np to look at it for me and if things check out then there is a possibility of me having it shipped or driven half the way or something. We'll see..

if I keep it for 2 more years it will be officially an antic. wanna trade? I have seen some bmws with under 150K on trademe that had a number of issues with the engine due to poor maintenence or driver habbits as some members here told me earlier on my other topic. i dont know though, there are some good points in this thread, car looks very well taken care of, might have some actual engine work or rebuild done by the previous owner since tis got the whole interior reuoholistered professionally. usually a 1 ~ 1.5K Job when I was quoted to do mine. could be a gem, could be a leamon, wont know untill I get to talk a bit more with the owner, and maybe if somebody took it for a drive. lets see..

Sweet, thanks guys, I think I'm gonna do what blue said or maybe if the costs come close then I'll see if i can get captain or jeffs to bring it down to me. okay, gotcha, let me see how it goes...hmm...impreza, I got a one of those, friends duped into buying one, thought I'd get one since almost everyone here seems to have a wagon or a truck, I call it the pussy wagon (no not because you can lay the back seats to tame chicks, I am sure the 5 series with heated seats gives a better exprience) its because its damn guttless. but sure as hell is reliable. keeps going and going and going. I love the sound of the boxer engine too, although friend (nissan guy) thinks its gay. Poor car, I haven't maintained it since I hate it so much. Ya know...that ya know that... ya know that really puts me off CrapTin, i remember you saying you were in the shipping business, know somebody else that I may try? have you tried jeffs? hows mainfright depot to depot? are they any cheaper? I dealth with mainfright before, were pretty good guys, waited and held my stuff for weeks before I thinkI got time to pop into their office and grab them right away.

thanks guys, I appreciate the responses, I think I'm gonna see if I can get somebody to have a look at it and take it for a ride, and then if everything checks out I'll take it. I'll let you guys know how things go. If there's any pointers you think has been left out that I should fill in the person looking then let me know. so far seems good. "oil change, 60000km spark plugs. air filter, rocker cover gasket replacement. Yes the A/C works, The auto gearbox works very well with excellent sports mode and snow mode. Still has plenty of power. I have driven it to auck many times & always a pleasure" Quite sad but agree with you there @Allan, very well put. hope this is an exception, inside sure looks like it.

Its the euro gearbox since the car is NZ new and the guy says the gear shifts are good, the condtions seems to be good, Other then rust and maybe the suspension is ther anything else I should be looking for in a car that has gone the "distance". engine vanos? hydrolic lifters etc? any tips would be appreciated. thanks

I dont see what the problem is. Is there like a restriction for starting a new thread to discuss something or do we have to derail it as well? I want some information on bmw engines with higher miles, more so the ones found on 3 series cars, eg. the m52. I am sure if it were to die in the future I could swap it out with something better(US or Euro Spec m3 motor) with the savings I make, hopefully someone with enough knowledge will come across and enlighten me and give me some honest input, I am just asking for opinions,
-
Okay thanks blue, let me see if I could get somebody to have a look at it for me. maybe if everything checks out I will take it and when it dies I can swap the engine out with a ..... something better with the savings I made Pukekohe, pretty sure I know that place from a auckland visit.

Thanks Bro, yea, that gives me an idea. So around $500 to get it down here, sounds a bit expensive since itt was only $700 to get one from chch a few years back. Bougfht it eithout looking and turned out it had rust issues and other paint damage that was "overlooked" by the seller. It was around the quake so I swallowed it and took the hit. anybody else have any exprience/info about car transporters around northisland?

hey guys, has anybody got any experience with shipping companies. I remember reading a while back somebody was in the shipping business. I am currently having a hard time to get somebody to tag along with me if I bought a car from Hamilton or down north around Palmey or Welly. Most of my friends are still out. So was thinking to have a shipping company bring it to me. anybody got and recommendations, an idea how much it might cost within north island? lets say welly/palmey/waikato to whangarei? winner gets like 2 points

My last car had a bit high miles like now sits around 250K on the engine, never really had any issues. Today I came across a 328i with high milage around 300K's but seems it was well maintained. I like it because its NZ New and had only 2 owners I think. Its also got a sunroof (So I can eject myself incase of...errrr something bad like slipping into a ditch. The Exterior and Interior condtion seems to be quite good. So anyway I was wondering. is 300K considered bad/dead on M52 motors? Do ours suffer from the US Nikasi block issues (I guess that was due to the higher sulfer rate on US cars)? Guy is wanting just 3K for it, is that something to be cautious about?
-
(strange attempt at targeting, now my posts dissappeared. ) anyway in case you didn't get to read. imo realistic price 3.5k. sale price probably 4k. maybe 4.5K if ur friend manages to get a hold of the ripe (parents looking to buy their kid a first "safe" car.) 5k @ 318i + silver = sure he can try & ask, but chances are slim.
