  1. About half the asking. Maybe. The M635CSi is a lovely car. Great? Depends on your perspective. I had a Dolphin Grey highline spec model in the UK - paid £3.5k. Did remedial and titivating work but got wind of how much the upcoming suspension and brake work was likely to cost, and got out early. Almost felt bad for selling it at a little over £5k, making about £200 profit on my ownership experience. Big plans for a Dinan conversion, but no. They're beautiful. Lovely to drive. (Don't, mess with the wheels - original works.) But like so many lovely things, cost good money to keep them lovely. And parking them in a garage doesn't work - they fail through no use.
  2. Beware of N-series engines. The N42/N46 aren't widely regarded as reliable regardless of servicing, and the N47 is not as reliable as the older M47. 6-pot petrol N-series engines may be better, but perhaps not as economically suitable for Ubering.

    Quick rant thread.

This does seem the case. Unsure if it is a NZ thing, but discretion has applied in every country I've lived in. The closest I came to that being applied was when being stopped for 120+ on a motorbike (same story - two lanes, no other traffic anywhere, perfect conditions, 2km visibility, etc) and the policeman acknowledged the speed, but gave me a ticket for 109. Not defending speeding but getting stopped for driving too fast does sometimes seem to be purely a spiteful activity with no victim, or even possibility of a victim being involved. It's made worse by the traffic cop asking "Do you know how fast you were going?" and "Is there a reason why you are travelling so fast, sir?" Like there is a reason which would avoid being penalised! (Or is there...?)

    Quick rant thread.

Many NZ insurance policies no longer include windscreen cover. Or if they do, it's with a big excess.

    Quick Questions

To some extent, it will depend on what you are looking for. There's a world of difference between a remanufactured (or new) turbo for a stock application, and the technology involved in developing something for a much higher performance purpose. (I have a new Turbo Technics unit that I'd sell... 😉 )
  6. 316i, described as 'excellent', $1 reserve, sold for under $6k. https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/listing/4158121841
  7. Absolutely. And you should gift the E85 to me. 😁
  8. This. Information is your friend. There are no guarantees of success but the more evidence of dealers fixing the issues you can find, the better your chances are. Your case is as good as it'll get - NZ new, 1 owner, fsh... Now you need to show it's their problem (as well as yours).
  9. The number of people 'liking' posts here suggest there is at least some interest!
  10. NZ new, very tidy-looking interior other than cracked dash, low spec (but that's not necessarily a bad thing). Is it the lighting in the photo, or has the passenger side front wing been replaced or repainted? Could easily be shadow.
  11. That could be the one I nearly swapped my Suzuki Bandit 1200 for. Had the (then) owner not had an accident, that deal would probably have gone ahead. Was a few years - 4? 5? - ago, but bike value was around $3k at the time. Certainly seemed like a decent car when I saw it.
  12. I don't see a $40k car, but I do admire the work that has gone into it. Of course, it's easier to accept (say) $30k when you start at 40, than it is to increase your asking price. And yes - the exhaust is not giving me good feelings! Agreed.
  13. It's back. This time at $29k. https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/listing/4154913564 But for the same money I'd definitely be buying this: https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/listing/4152972514

    Grumpy

If one were to have lost a couple of fairly rare and recognisable wheels in a roadside heist, and then saw some very, very similar rims for sale as a pair in a mismatched set of four, should one feel aggrieved?
  15. 1989 Mercedes 500SE. 8.5km per litre, almost regardless of how it is driven. Almost... Some spirited excursions can see it drop considerably. Never going to be as bad as my old Jensen though. Got that down to well below 2mpg. About 0.76km per litre. 🤣
  16. <Ahem> Me, sir! Had a couple of 222s. Loved them.
  17. Is an E9x M3 comparable in the 'genetics' sense to an E30, E36 or even E46? Maybe not. Is it a lovely car to drive? Definitely. In 2008' Car and Driver' suggested it bordered on perfection. It's a great car. DCT or manual? Personal preference. PFL or FL? Just get the best one you can.
