  1. I was wondering how far this could go. Generically, and assuming Person A has an upheld case for breach of contract, could Person B find themselves in a position where they are (effectively) in possession of stolen goods?
  2. Have a look at what I did for our daughter: Don't be put off by the 'headunit' description - we didn't go there!
  3. It seems Brad had his offer overturned (too). Although until he wrote of it here, I wasn't aware of it. Someone else I know of, a thoroughly nice member of the forum, had agreement, verbally and in writing, that he was buying the cars at the asking price. He'd asked for bank details so he could transfer a deposit to the seller, with balance to be paid on collection - this was all agreed. There was a lot of organisation going on, arranging funds for transfer, sorting transport - all the usual stuff. Then the seller pops up and says "Sorry, I've agreed to sell to someone else who has offered more money." Not even an opportunity to increase an offer. Just nope - sold to someone else. The buyer I know of was understandably very, very disappointed. Yes - sale goes to the first person in, but once agreement has been reached (especially in writing), it's normally fair to consider yourself to be that first person. The buyer with the higher offer is understood to have been aware that a sale was agreed. We think we know who the buyer is (we aren't sure, so will say nothing), but I suggest anonymity is unlikely to last long with cars like this. Personally I feel that both the seller and the buyer who made the higher offer have both acted extremely poorly. I'm annoyed, and I hadn't even considered making an offer!
  4. Sold to 'Charles'. Who has complimented the seller on how well he looked after the car! ? So tempted to point out that the seller had only owned it for 5 minutes... Credit to you, Chester, for how well you looked after the car.

    Aussie E46s Grounded.

Ooh! BMW NZ could buy back our daughter's 318i! It's not quite in the same condition it was when it left the factory, but that won't affect an airbag recall, will it? ?
  6. I was very happy to read of the sale, until I heard that the person I thought was the buyer had been gazumped.
  7. Pretty sure they're sold. To a forum member, which is nice.

    New GST import stuff

Not yet. The manifest lists a number value for the shipment, but doesn't specify a currency...

    New GST import stuff

Update... Ordered from FCP Euro on 22/10, with (free) delivery to MyUS. Updated by MyUS and shipped to NZ using FedEx International Economy, where it was delivered this morning - 5th November. Two weeks order to door. Takes NZ Post that long to get something through customs (having already spent 3-4 days getting it from the plane to customs), then that long again to deliver in country!
  10. There is a story behind this. Might be best relayed by PM, though.
  11. Obviously depends where in Auckland, but try SJ @BMTHUG at Apex Auto on Porana Road. He's a good guy, and has owned and looked after E30s for many years.
  12. Unfortunately the buyer has a rep for this sort of thing.

    New GST import stuff

Following the wisdom received hereabouts, I've ordered 4 shocks/struts from FCP and am having them shipped to a MyUS address... Shipping in the US is *free* so that's one cost out of the way. Let's see how it goes. Can't be worse than my last experience!
  14. The US market is a difficult one to gauge. 5-speed manual 325iX Touring for $3k or so, or a late model good 4-door auto for $15k. All prices, all sizes and shapes...
  15. Nope - it's a Rocket Bunny 8-series.
  16. That's a link to Outlook online...? I doubt any of us will be able to see the content!
  17. There are 5 councils in Hawke's Bay (and a couple of part-districts, but they're excluded for the sake of governance)... Hastings is the largest, Napier is often considered the capital (a parallel with Auckland/Wellington, there!), and the Regional Council obviously covers more geographic area. As a note, even the recent HBRC EGM was a public event, streamed live. Absolutely agree re Wellington. I think many in the area also agree, but they're often outnumbered by the heads-up-asses voting majority.
  18. I'd heard this about Auckland. And, possibly Wellington. I'm becoming more acquainted with council meetings these days, and apparently the rule at at least one in Hawke's Bay is that all meetings are open, all meetings are minuted and minutes are available to the public, and all meetings are recorded. Could be the exception, of course.
  19. Can't quickly address all details, but some Councils do offer the kind of transparency you describe. And individual accountability is covered but perhaps, again, only by some Councils. For less co-operative councils, there are LGOIMA requests. And the public can attend any council meeting.
  20. Springs change ride height, not shocks. Shorter shocks are often required when significantly shorter springs are used. Swapping springs for shorter ones (or cutting existing springs) is a common path to lower ride height. The shock is often overlooked. This leads to compromised function - the shock is already partly compressed before it is asked to do any work. If your car had shorter springs fitted with a stock shock, it may be possible that as it has worn out, it has remained at it's enforced shorter length. If you're fitting the new shocks with the original springs then - theoretically, and all else being equal - the height should be the same. The part number of the new shocks is correct for your car; the part number on the old shock is also correct, although I'm slightly surprised to find that shock is used on seemingly all E46 models regardless of engine (4/6 cylinder, petrol/diesel). I agree with Nathan ( @zero ) that the original shock doesn't look to be fully extended. I don't think they (the original shocks) are readily rebuildable so it seems unlikely it has been shortened, although that may be a possibility. See if you are able to further extend the shock?
