This. There looks to me no plan just suggestion. But like most suggestions it needs credible policy framework. This will be years off if it even gets that far. And you are right it will be a logistical nightmare. Exactly the actual ability to implement such a policy is minute. You ask an overseas retailer to add 15% on each transaction that 'appears' to be from NZ I.P? Then buyers use a proxy and make it look like they are elsewhere. You say POS charges will just be made when your debit/credit card is charged by an overseas vendors? How do you monitor that - especially when charges offshore could be made when travelling. You say the responsibility is on the buyer to register all offshore purchases with the Taxman at the end of each financial year? So how do to catch people out? Monitor all NZs incoming mail? And then try to differentiate between what is a gift and what is a purchase? No, no, no. Will not ever be feasible (financially or logistically) ever. My view? Its nice rhetoric to small to medium business owners but it ain't gonna happen. If it could have happened, 7th year into a fiscally prudent National Government, it would have already.

rijac i have a 323i which I love and is a trooper of a car, but I got a mechanical warranty just in case.. there have been only a few issues over 2 years but the out of pocket $$ to me for all top mech. repairs is x4 claims ($1400)

Will be interesting to see if I'm faced with Driftit-type experience (I am not with State however my rims have been changed since May 2013 and I never considered I needed to tell them). Auto-Sure seems much more amenable to accepting [mechanical] claims where claimants are the innocent party - out of curiosity - anyone had any bad dealings with Autosure (or the like)?

Got my bimmer back today!! after two weeks on bus...hit a new high today when there were a number of homeless people on it yelling at each other. Toy Shop really looked after me, fixed a number of things and got a wheel alignment done for me and sorted my pesky temperamental right headlight. Super super happy and can't recommend John + Welly T.S crew enough! now someone buy it. hahaha
