Hey Amber, do you think you will have these on the car in time for the Sunday meet?
-
Woohoo! Did you do the happy dance?
-
Nice one. Is it 330i manual?
-
Was it overheated?
-
Yea I removed every single part of the cooling system except the heater core and cleaned them all. The heater core was flushed in the car cause it was too much of a mission to remove.
-
It was drained and flushed with new trans oil. The trans oil appears clean. How can oil get from the torque converter to the cooling system?
-
Thanks Brent. Lets hope this is the case. I will do a compression test on Monday.
-
Tailpipe smoke is oily blue (worn valve stem seals) but not white or steamy. It is only on tap water at the moment as I don't want to waste my coolant and distilled water until its right. Only other thing I can think of is engine (not trans) oil cooler.

Another update; Well its been 10 days of driving and everything feels fine to drive, and no codes either. However I'm a bit concerned about the fact that I'm still getting the chocolate milkshake stuff in the cooling system. The cooling system was removed and each piece was thoroughly washed/flushed with water before going back in. A garden hose was used to flush the engine block and the heater core. Then once back in I thoroughly flushed the whole system again with a hose, and then flushed it a second time with wynns radiator flush following the instructions exactly. After each drive I'm getting some milkshake returning, so I flush it out by putting the hose in the top of the expansion tank. I was scared that maybe the replacement oil cooler had a leak too, even though it came from a working car, so I disconnected both hoses from the back of it to check but the oil was completely clean. How long should I be getting the milkshake stuff? Could I have a blown head gasket? There is no milkshake in the engine that I can see.

Sounds like a blockage? Has a previous owner used a stop leak product on it?

Who fixed the final problems? Was it that auto electrical place you took it to earlier? Glad to see its sorted. -
I have a e46 touring towbar available. It is just the towbar and its mounting bolts/washer/nuts - I don't have the trailer wiring connector. I also have interior trim and a factory radio unit. I think the factory unit I have is md or cassette though, but if you want cd you could buy a 6disc shuttle which sits in the boot and you control from your current head deck. Only downside is I am in Auckland and you are in Wellington. What year is your wagon?

What was the model of the old lanzar vibe amp?
-
Can I ask why you are swapping boxes?
-
Fuel pump idea is clever. I like the thinking outside the box.

Found this; http://bimmerinfo.com/e46trans.htm Thanks guys, I used the torque app via obd2 to measure the temp of the transmission oil and drained off any excess as per Glenns and ZF's instructions. I reckon I had overfilled it by nearly a litre.
-
No trans dipstick. I will loosen off the filler plug to let any excess out.
-
Is it possible to overfill the oil in the transmission? If so, is it a bad thing?
-
Thanks guys. If nothing else I've learnt a hell of a lot. If I have to do it again I think I would just use a crane and pull the engine and box out in one go, reattach the new box and then put them back into the car.

Its a shame you are in Dunedin or I would have come over and helped you out (I'm a chippy). Its an awesome garage - I'm very jealous.
-
Well, I went for a drive this afternoon and everything went surprisingly well. No fault codes yet so fingers crossed. When it cools down I will do a thorough check for leaks.

Danger - I would imagine eyes in the floor would crack the concrete or pull out completely if you tried to pull a car to it via a winch. Just my opinion though. If you do try something, get the sockets as deep into the concrete as you safely can. I would still recommend dynobolting the bottom plates to the floor though. Looks like a great space, and I'm sure you can make that extractor system work for you. Maybe useful for a painting booth?
-
Don't think you will get a better price for a car like this anywhere.
-
Nice work Danger. Are you leasing the garage or do you own it? Reason I ask is because it would be ideal to dynabolt those bottom plates down.

AMI has been good to us. Also have found BNZ good.
