I like the feel of the 4 with a lighter nose and prefer going around corners than seeing who's boss on a straight bit of road. I'd just buy a 6 if i wanted one. I'm more interested in the handling side at the mo and I doubt the differences are as stark as you say as I've seen the 2.5s and the 1.8s swapping places at the pointy end in the racing.

How did i know that would be the first reply! Nope, keepin the m40. I doubt that a cam and a chip will cost more than a repower but prove me wrong by sourcing we all the 2.5 bits from front to back for less than the cost of a cam and a chip

Also still looking for 325 front and rear sway bars!

Hi all I have an e30 318i manual 5 speed road car. I think I'm in love. No plans to put a v8 in it at this stage, the e36 steering rack mod was tech enough (but well worth it). It's not a race car but was wondering who supplies the chip and cam for the series and is it road enough for a road car. Also, i guess there are head, exhaust, compression alterations which are paired with this or would a tight standard engine respond well to them? Also the 44 gallon drum that doubles as the rear muffler is sounding like a babies rattle. What do people replace it with? I see that there will be some fabbing required for the mounts as the wrap around the giant clamps. I'm in Christchurch

are the centre caps on 15" 4x100 weaves the same as 14"?

Hi All I am after a set of 40mm or 50mm or so front lowering springs for an E30 318 with 45mm struts and am also looking for a 325 front and rear sway bar to put on my 318. If someone had some decent shock absorbers to go with them then i'd consider it too. Thanks all Shane

Well, I am getting on with my steering rack conversion on my 318. Possibly not too many people doing it to these but if you are i have found a rather lucky mod with the exhaust manifold. I cut a section of it out so i could start modding it when i realised that if i turned the bit i cut off upside down and welded it in it would clear the steering linkage .... result!! see photos. Will only work for 318 but unbelievable coincedence. Also, i personally don't think that omitting the flexible portion of the steering linkage on a car with rubber mounted subframe is a grand idea so I'm going with the mod outlined in the sticky which is using urethane. if anyone is interested i am buying the rod of 80mm urethane tomorrow and will have a fair bit to spare so deals can be made for the remainder when i'm finished.

I didn't see whether you sold the front springs shocks. Are they still available? suitable for 318?

I'm happy to do this. Will pm soon Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hi all. I am doing the conversion to my 318 manual coupe and am having some 318 specific manifold clearance issues but otherwise seems to be going well ,if a little slowly. For what it's worth i think that the metalastic column bush should be retained as the subframe is rubber mounted so with rigid connection to steering column there is shock transferred which should not be if left out (IMHO etc)

I have purchased a rack and have all of the bits i need. I have actually put the new rack in but have found the rack fouls on my exhaust. My car is a late 318i so I may be experiencing difficulties that others don't (ie i think most people have a 6) has anyone done this swap on a 4? i was just going to get a curve welded in to the pipe but wondered whether anyone has any thing to add. I have taken out the exhaust and its reasonably tight for room but not impossible. are there aftermarket manifolds? possibly the race guys might have encountered this. (please, no "put a 6 in it" suggestions unless you have all the bits and lots of spare time to help me!)

Im in CHCH and am looking at doing the same swap soon. I don't know whether its easier when it's a 318 but thats what mine is. In the sticky rack swap thread the guy uses urethane from Mulford which is in CHCH here for the steering shaft coupler. I'm going to go in and see if they still sell it. It looked like there was enough urethane in the block purchased to do a few so it could be an idea to get a few cut to size at the same time....

ive got an old wheel off an E36 (i think) it;s a factory wheel with a knackered tyre. Wheel is in very good nick with a small mark on the face and the tiniest kurb mark barely worth mentioning. I'll be scrapping it if no one wants it for $10. I've actually owned it since before i owned a Beemer but thats another story. PM me if interested in a spare

Just bought a tidy manual 318i off my mates mum. Its a wee beauty. just enough poke for a laugh. small and light enough with the unbeatable combo of manual gearbox, rear wheel drive and 2 doors. boom. she had the infamous cam issue a 20000 or so km ago and had the cam an followers replaced so pretty happy there. I was just wondering if there is anything I can do to the oil feed rail or whatever is the root cause to try and stop it happening again. I did the cam belt the other day to get that demon out of the way .If it dies oneday i guess ill put an m42 or something in it (not sure how hard that is) . I took it for a spirited drive up the port hills the other night and it was great fun but the handling could do with a bit more tautness. does anyone local have the thicker front and a rear sway bar from one of the 325i models? is that a good handling mod? what aother sympathetic handling mods are best to start with? i possibly could look at the bushes etc too. Any way I'm lovin it, rust free and very straight and seems to be plenty of life left in her.
