  1. Hey guys, So about a year ago I picked up a 1995 525i auto touring with 275,000 kms (now has 302,000 kms) which has been my daily driver and now turning into a project car. The car is in alright condition but does need some love to bring it back to its former glory. It will be getting a manual transmission from a second e34 sedan that I own. I'll also be upgrading suspension, brakes, wheels and eventually tinkering with the motor once I decide what I want to do (m60 v8 vs turbo m50b25 open to opinions). Cosmetically I would like to clean up both the interior and exterior to what should be original condition and maybe some minor upgrades, but nothing too over the top. Exterior paint is in pretty rough condition with the clear coat peeling in many areas. Inside, the leather seats have torn where you sit (already bought replacement seats), headliner is sagging, and steering wheel is fairly worn, instrument cluster lcd has gone out, would like to install factory radio or something similar back in. The goals for this project are; #Do as much myself as I can. #Learn as much as I can in the process. #Teach others what I've learnt in the process. #Build a pretty neat car by the end of it. Obligatory pictures below! Oh and if anyone has any ideas or parts for sale that might help me out, please shout out!
  2. Hey guys, I am looking to buy an e34 passenger side windshield wiper arm. I'm located in Auckland but don't mind paying for shipping if its located somewhere else. Cheers!
  3. Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone is selling or knows where I could pick-up an instrument cluster for my e34. It is a gen III instrument cluster (blue back with 4 plugs) with L/100 kms for the fuel consumption. It looks similar to the instrument cluster attached. Cheers!
  4. Hi Brett, would you happen to know which transmission it has? I'm looking for something that would fit an e34 525i. Evidently I would need a different cross brace, shifter linkage etc.
  5. Hi, I am looking for a CD43 head unit and was wondering if anyone is selling one or where I should look to try to source one out. I would also require the code for it so I can use it after installation. Cheers!

    E34 540i 1993

definitely good engines, is this an auto or manual?
  8. I'd be keen to figure something out too as I am looking for a manual transmission for an e34, would consider splitting taxes/shipping/freight etc.
  9. I've had pretty good luck with Pelican Parts, autohausaz and YouShop. Just make sure your orders are broken down to be under 60 dollars owing in duties to avoid paying duties. I believe that ends up being around 225ish usd per shipment. You can use this before you order to verify http://www.whatsmyduty.org.nz/whats-my-duty
  10. not sure what item 22 actually refers too. If it is indeed the interior light or the exterior flashing light. At the bottom of the document it defines an lam indicator as " Direction indicator lamp means a lamp designed to emit a flashing light to signal the intention of the driver to change the direction of the vehicle to the right or to the left." Might actually be worthwhile discussing further?
  11. Hi Brett, are the wheels still available? May possibly be interested depending on price. Maybe post a price up here or pm me a price? Cheers.
  12. Hi all, I am looking to buy a 1995 e34 525i radiator or even just the expansion tank (the one that is connected to the side of the radiator) as my expansion tank developed a crack last night. Let me know if anyone has anything kicking around. If not I'll place in order in from the states in the next coming days. Cheers, Eddy
  13. That's exactly what I've been trying to mention is the fact that not all vehicle are the same and that some play is acceptable. I very well understand the difference between something that is worn and something that just wasn't designed or engineering to the same level. In regards to parts manufactured today for the e34, even though those parts may be manufactured with more advanced equipment at the end of the day those parts were still designed in the 80's and 90's and that wont change. BM Workshop is my place to go to now and thanks a ton for all the comments above!
  14. Sorry year was in the title but I didn't mention the year of the e36 wheel. My e34 is a 1995 and the steering wheel I'd like to put on is a 1998 e36 steering wheel. I believe their is only one connector to the airbag with two wires going into the plug.
  15. Cool that's what I was thinking but wasn't sure and was hoping someone has done this before
  16. Hi everyone, the steering wheel in my 525i e34 is looking fairly aged and I came across this wheel on TM (http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/bmw/interior/auction-1035162086.htm) Does anyone know if this is a direct fit and if the airbag would still be compatible? I believe both on the e34 and e36 they were single stage airbags (please let me know if I'm wrong) but I don't know if they used the same connector. Any advice would be helpful. I'm also curious to know if the slip rings are the same. Cheers!
  17. I'm not convinced by that one as in the states as Canada there are plenty of these shops and OHS is a lot tighter there. From my chat with them they mentioned that they just didn't have enough people interested to justify the expense Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. I'd be keen to try to sort something out too. The shop suggested on the other page, when I last contacted them about 2 months ago had closed down but maybe they reopened?
  19. Has anyone tried this place recently? I contacted them about 2 months ago and they had mentioned that they shut down.
  20. Jeeze that's my concern right there, people doing inspections that have no clue what they are looking for or even at. Thanks for all the replies though and if any others want to chime in the more info the better.
  21. I think my main concern is to find someone that actually knows what the tolerance for wear and play are on older vehicles. As the VIRM states, all these items are vehicle specific and as a result also age specific. For example a car from 2015 may have a worn steering rack if there is play of more than 5 degrees in the steering wheel as this may be outside of the manufactures tolerances, meanwhile a car for the 1980's may have play of 15 degrees in the steering wheel but may be acceptable as this is still within manufactures tolerances. If the tech. were to hold everything to the same standards and was not aware of the vehicle specific tolerances than a perfectly safe car would fail.
