If you’re after an E70 X5 then the 30d Performance Edition is worth looking out for, it was a local NZ developed offering including increased options and 20” rims, added Performance Bodykit and Edition badging.

Was a very good seller as new vehicles, and have very good re-sale values.

Thanks! Sounds like what I'm after.

How short would your round town journeys be? Might start to run into difficulties with never getting up to temp/carbon build up and the economy isn't going to be amazing either.

I'll have to make sure to get it up to temp before returning home, kindy drop offs etc would be the worry.

Facelift is definitely the way to go, but imo ,with the newest ones being 2013, the prices may not differ so much with F15s.

An F15 is much more modern looking and no doubt is better equipped but there's roughly a $15k-$20k difference between similar optioned E70s vs F15. Could be worth waiting until they come down a bit further? But then there's always going to be the NEXT model I guess?

What options do you guys have that are a step up from the average POV spec? The 360 & overhead cams will give us great piece of mind. I see there was one listed with ventilated seats, would be nice but probably not necessary Hahaha. I'm a sucker for high specd cars, especially if we were to keep for 10 years or so.

  3. Hi all, we've recently been looking at 7 seaters to replace our E91 to give us some more flexibility. Ideally we'd like the facelift and Motorsport for the aesthetics (hopefully the suspension isn't as crashy as our Msport E91). Eyeing up the 30d and 40d, no real preference yet. Won't be towing really and will mostly be driven around Auckland with the odd trip out to the Coromandel/Taupo. Gutted the 7 seater option doesn't have spare wheel capacity as I'm not the biggest fan of RFs.

What options were available and commonly seen in NZ? Were the NZ new allocations better equipped?

Thanks for any advice and opinions!

  4. I think your vibrations will be from the lack of rubber dampener, that I assume was removed to clear the manifold? When turning under acceleration, does the shaft contact the exhaust manifold?

Your best bet is the Barina shaft mod and swap. It involves fitting the upper e30 mount to the Barina shaft. The shaft is collapsible which absorbs alot of the vibration. I think I have a more in depth how-to on my build? If not, there's a few on the interwebs. It's a fiddly job (needle rollers on the UJ bearings) and a dremel with a small cut off wheel makes life easier. There was one already done on TradeMe recently.

Also, my certifier wanted a heat shroud made to protect the bearings, more specifically the grease, from the heat given off from the exhaust manifold. He said wrapping the exhaust manifold would do. You might get away with it however.

That's a very large difference in premiums. The more expensive car is only 30% of the less expensive car.. Is that because the 316i

is considered a 'Classic Car' and has a yearly km's restriction??

The e30 is in an alarmed garage, limited to 15,000kms/Yr (probably only do 2000) and yea a classic.

  6. I was with Swann insurance but went off them after a claims scrap. Broker recommended Star so I've gone with them. They had no issues with the modifications (engine swap, power steering retrofit, adjustable height suspension) and their premiums aren't too bad. Can't speak for their claims process. All agreed value, no valuation required.

  7. Hi all, our E91 is a Jap import and was converted to NZ CIC and maps when we bought it. We were told that outside of the main cities radio reception would suffer. Initially it didn't bother me but now its damn annoying. Has anyone else noticed this? Any fixes/upgrades? I've looked on other forums and all connections are good, no aftermarket angel eyes (apparently that's a thing) and no metallic rear tint. Help! Thanks.

  8. I'm real curious as to who's spending this on these cars. Is it young guys ticking it up like what was the norm when I was 18? Or people taking advantage of all this sudden free equity? Or long time lovers of E36s and E30s who are scared they're going to miss out so they're pulling the trigger now?

I will never look at Bronzit Beige the same 😍

And the imperfections on the seats add character 😉

Also don’t usually like wheels that aren’t OE but the Rays surprisingly look good. This project has come a long way and you’re still adding to it! Hope you’re proud man.

Thanks man! I don't think it'll ever be "done" unfortunately/fortunately hahaha
