  1. Bloody hell, didn't even see that for sale, would have snapped it up.

I can't stand the shape of the factory one, so the ZHP or MPerf knobs are the ticket - just comes down to your preference.

A left field choice would be the illuminated 6spd E60 M5 knob. Drill a hole through the plastic gear boot locating ring and thread the wires through, then tap into the brown and blue wires in the centre console.

It appears there’s a batch of NZ new ones without them and without rear head rests.

Interesting also that the M Tech II M325i models new in NZ seem to have dealer fitted rear high stop brake lights as the rear spoiler would hide the usual LCI factory one.  I thought it was odd on the red one but this charcoal one seems the same?

Rear head rests were an option. Code 498.

The rear stop light is an interesting issue - the E30 parcel tray with integrated stoplight was introduced for the 1990 model year, but cars registered in New Zealand after Jan 1990 had to have them, so you've got the '89 build date cars without the parcel tray light, like the Alpina M325i on trademe, which was an 04/89 build, but wasn't registered in NZ until 01/90, so required the dealer fit high stop light.

Recent mt2 cars up for sale -

CLZ241 - parcel tray light / no dealer light

LIV3 - no parcel tray light / no dealer light

PR6499 - parcel tray light / dealer light

RM5295 - no parcel tray light / no dealer light

PY7742 - no parcel tray light / dealer light

PA3330 - parcel tray light / no dealer light

One of the first four M325i's into NZ, all of them Polaris Silver 1986 models. Note the 14" weaves they all originally came on. Of the other three, we all know Hybrid's car, another of them lived in Melbourne with a sister tec-1 UK 325i Sport (now since sold and replaced by an E30 M3 (s14m325i on instagram). The third is coming up to 550xxx KM (!).

Doubt many E34 M5's are going for 6 figures, possibly a 3.8 touring etc or some immaculate special edition maybe. 30-40k is what they appeared to be selling in previous few years.

The last 3.8 for sale was up at $70K, no chance you're getting one for less than six figures now.

Im not surprised, they tried to lowball the heck out of me when I was selling my TVR. They always have huge markups. They have also been known to try and pass things off on unsuspecting buyers, like the difference between Miles and KM on an odometer.

A certain discussion about a cheap E39 M5 suddenly springs to mind haha.

there ya go, five keen buyers in the market where one is for sale from a limited pool of thirty-something.  if that's not demand pushing up price, what is?! 😉

But there was.  Last year.  Before Covid.  More original.  Just 51k kms, never had paint.  It didn't see the market, though.  Just quietly changed hands thank you very much.

Just quoting. Market / no market who knows.

Reassuring to see that someone else finds that price pretty steep for what the car is.

I think it's quite the reverse.  Harm is suggesting it's incredible that that car hasn't already met reserve.

I find the price pretty steep and I'm incredulous that the reserve hasn't been met.

Exactly one?  On the contrary.  I know a couple of people interested (not merely spectating).

My mistake, I took your post to mean a car not technically for sale had changed hands. If you've got any other leads along those lines, myself and two other friends are looking for mint M325i's so please do get in touch.

  9. I'm out of the running at $40K+ 😤 was looking forward to getting some of those E30 M3 value gains over the next few years. Will have to settle for an insurance adjustment on the current E30.

We took a genuine one owner sub 125K km Brilliantrot example on trade for a new 1M and sold it to the CJ dealer principle the same day for $17K in 2011. Have they doubled in price in 10 years? Yes they have. Are they worth double? Probably not.

As @Olaf alluded to, there's been a few off books trades of M325i's recently, but they're hardly representative of the market, seeing as the buyers pool for those trades is exactly one.

Fag packet calculations would suggest there's still 34(+) kiwi new MT2 M325i's floating around, and I bet this auction sees another couple of cars come to market - perhaps the white M325i down in Dunedin that sold in hours preempted this sale? I'd argue the white car was the better purchase however...

...Speaking of "is this where the E30 market is now?" This 325i SE/a at 19K is absolutely laughable, I mean, reserve not met ffs!!

  10. Hmmm awfully convenient it went for $100 less than what it was asking for. There was some shameless shill bidding early in the piece as well.

Interior colour not to everyone's taste, but I'm surprised this hasn't sold yet. Factory 6-spd would be hens teeth in NZ.
