  1. Forgot to add that it is registered til July 2016 and WoF'd til June 2016. Decided that it is on the market and will consider realistic offers, just not ridiculous ones. Cheers.
  2. I'd much prefer 45 crisp $100 notes or 90 x $50 ones . I think its well priced at $4,500...
  3. Thanks Brent - my thoughts also. Spoke to the dealer and told him the faults found were mainly: misfire cylinder 3, passenger upper seat twist and the soaking rear carpet. Comments back - seat will stay like that and won't be fixed, will dry the carpet and put the hose over it to see if there is a leak (sensed they won't/don't want to fix leak) and the misfire is an easy fix for someone. There's probably not enough margin in it for the dealer as they kept saying its just as it was traded and its a good price. Also inspected another 525i msport that had some worn suspension - tie rod ends, banana arms and rear tyres worn on the inside. I suppose it may come down to sort suspension on one or chase a leak, but thinking both of these are good buys - sooooo which is the lesser evil - leak or suspension? comments welcome
  4. had this inspected over the weekend. It is in very good mechanical condition which was a pleasant surprise. BUT... there was evidence of water getting into the rear cabin as the rear carpets were soaking wet (among other things). Up until then this was looking like a great buy and was almost going to purchase.
  5. Thanks for all the advice. Checked the VIN and this looks to be genuine with sport suspension. It really does look better in the flesh than in the pics - really a fan of that interior. Spoke to trader today and its under offer (subject to finance). Tells me if its still listed on Monday then its available - looks like I may have missed this one
  6. Agree with the above - on the test drive it definetly felt tighter and quite repsonsive - more so that my old e39 535 - I know different car with different engine/suspension setup. Closest that I can compare to is my current 2.5l manual X3 and this really did feel solid and tight on the road. But again not really a like for like comparison. Probably get it checked out this week - will give an update.
  7. I think you're right :-) Now just need to find a S62 and manual box, do a conversion and then have a 'M5' for cheap lol.
  8. Appreciate the comments. I'm kinda over catching public transport to work and would like a daily that I can enjoy driving on a 50km round trip so this caught my eye as it was local. Was impressed with the condition despite the kms and how it drove. Quick browse through TM and this looks like a well priced msport for the age/kms and specs (this is the cheapest and best combo of the 8 525i msports on TM at the moment - IMO). Q - is a msport worth the 'premium' over standard 525i's of similar age as highlighted above?
  9. Cheers everyone. Looks like next step is getting it checked out by my mechanic.
  10. Had similar thoughts re: cooling system. The expansion tank has movement. Thinking next step is to get my mechanic to check and scan for any faults. Was impressed on the two test drives, only issue was it didn't make it up my driveway due to being too low Cheers!
  11. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=891612201 Thinking of purchasing as a daily. Anyone familiar with this particular car? Its a genuine msport and seems in good condtion for age/kms. Drives quite 'tight'. One thing I've noticed is that keys don't seem original - they are not diamond head (there is an invoice for a replacement ignition barrell). Any issues to be aware of like alarm system courtesy open/close etc. Any advice appreciated. Cheers
  12. As the second NZ owner of this 'RareM3' I can vouch for its condition and rarity. All the best with the sale and think that what you're asking is fair, Cheers.
  13. Hi there, I'm the guy who had a chat to you a couple of weeks ago in the local Mitre 10 carpark. As a former local owner of an 8 series, I had all my work done at Porirua City European (the Mike you refer to). they are based in Elsdon, next to North City Go karts. PM me if you woiuld like his number. They have worked on many of my cars including e39 535i, e34 520i, HSV Sentor, Holden Adventra and currently they service my X3 and HSV Avalanche. I recommend Mike! Cheers
  14. Good luck with your search and I hope you find the right one that ticks all the boxes for you. My only buying advice is find one that has been well maintained with plenty of evidence. They are out there (and even a couple of the v12's that are up for sale seem pretty tempting).
  15. Yip it is out there. I traded it on an e36 M3 Saloon at a local dealership. Last time I spoke to him he had it advertised and told me he got a few people interested in it who were making ridiculous offers to him. He has decided to keep it as his personal car as he recognises the 'rareness' of this particular car with the spec's that it has. I know he has plans to to a bit of restoration on it like refresh the interior, a few mods/upgrades here and there. I said to him when he is done with it to give me a call and I'll buy it back! I haven't spoken to him for a while so don't know what he has done with it or if he even still has it. When I was looking this was the only 4.4l/steptronic combo that I came across. And I was looking for years. I suspect this one maybe the only one of its kind in NZ as it was privately imported by the previous UK owner. I found that 840's are harder to come by than 850's here so if you find keep it! I know there is a '96 NZ new factory manual one i red somewhere out there and was owned by the president of BMW Club. I enjoyed the experience of e31 ownership and looking forward to doing it again.
  16. I know of one black uk imported 1996 840ci. It has the 4.4l with steptronic and grey sport interior. This one had a crap load of maintence done on it over a two year period of ownership as was evident that none was done for quite a while. As an ex-owner (that was in a similar circumstance to yourself) I highly recommend to anyone who has dreamed of owning an e31 to do it once. There is something about having the best ever looking and most exclusive modern BMW (IMO anyway) parked in your driveway. My only warning is have very deep pockets and a friendly relationship with your trusted garage/mechanic. I still regret parting ways with this 840ci but I will own it again soon . Now if I can only remember who has it now .
  17. Still looking for one . I'm after the complete light/casing. One that I can plug into existing plug and screw into place. I'm sure there's one out there, somewhere....
  18. I found supercheap really isnt that cheap haha! I'm hoping someone on the forum has one spare before I start calling secoond hand dealers/wreckers. $40 sounds reasonable. Ideally would like to have one this week, then have brake imbalance sorted, serviced and wof'fed before the week is over.
  19. Took M3 for warrant on Friday to local testing station and they failed it on the rear spoiler brake strip having less than 75% of lights working (and brake imbalance ). I took strip apart and replaced the light bulbs ($30 down already) but under closer inspection 4 light connections have corroded off the light strip - due to age I'm guessing. Mine is the two screw-in type with seven lights in the strip. Anyone have any available at a good (cheap ) price? Only stipulation is that all the lights must be working (well more than 75% of them at least lol) I am Wellington based. Cheers.
  20. Both of these will work for my upgrade. Anybody have these 6X9 adaptors that they want to sell? (Great price from ebay but not keen on the $50 postage lol) Or Brent - do you have a pair of the premium adaptors/pods available as per your pics?
  21. Does anybody have a pair that is no longer needed? Want to upgrade rear speakers but want to keep the look stock and not do any mods. Thanks!

Really appreciate the comments. Three of the wheels have been damaged (one when I bought it). They are repairable (been quoted @ $170 +gst per wheel) but as I had other maintenance items to do and since I had this set sitting spare it was more economical to put tyres on these rims, as opposed to repair plus tyres. If I was keeping it then they definitely would be done as part of the list of things to do. I'll check for some pictures with the original wheels. You're right the style 5's really do suit the 8 series. I'm in need of something a bit more practical hence an e34 M5 or Senator. Test drove a Clubsport R8 yesterday - but wasn't for me. I'm going to have a look at an e36 M3 Saloon today in Dakar yellow - another rarity! I know an M5 is so hard to come by but was tempted to seriously consider the re-shellled 'M5' that was being offered by a member here not that long ago. Now if anyone had one to swap that would be very tempting... So my options for the 840 are: keep (I'm still tempted), sell to an appreciative owner who will look after it (my preference), or trade it (not my favourite option and getting laughed at and insulted is not always fun haha). I'm very negotiable on price so if you do manage to contact this person (or anyone else) have them contact me directly. Great chatting to a fellow 8 series junkie - Cheers!

Yip this is the one from the Hawkes Bay. I was told by the gentleman who imported it that he purchased it from a local dealership for @ $25 pounds two years before importing here. Though he used is regularily in the UK, he only travelled 3k miles in the 8 years he had it here and kept it parked up most of the time. The 4.4l/tiptronic combo really attracted me to this one (and the sports seats option and colour combo). I was tempted to consider the blue 840 that was for sale at the time too (and again for sale now - they must be twins!). You will notice the wheels are not standard, originals have been damaged thanks to an 8x4 piece of wood on the motorway - but they will go with the car! I would like an e34 M5 but I'm finding these are as rare as the 8 series, so perhaps an HSV Senator instead :-). I'm negotiable on the price and open to offers (but not ridiculous ones lol). Link was working before so I'm not sure what the go is = in the mean time try this: http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/...n-625356738.htm Sorry for the pics - I'm waiting for my better quality ones to be availble
