Cheers, appreciate all your thoughts. Agree E39 M5's have been few and far between over the last 5 years or so. Then in 2016 there seemed to be a plethora of them. Kicking myself all these M5's have come up for sale after purchasing my e60 M5. Now if someone was to buy my M5 I tomorrow this example would be in my driveway on Saturday. The likelihood of that happening - zilch

Martin- having extensive experience with e39 M5's and now having seen this one - in your opinion do you think its worth the $25k they're asking? Just curious
-
IMO - Just friggin awesome!

Been chilin' over the last couple of days and came across this. I'm a bit of a fan of the Wheeler Dealer show and enjoyed this instalment, besides the butchered YouTube editing...

Slightly cheaper than the $29,995 it was listed for a month or so ago . Nice NZ new example.

8 Series - anyone familiar with this example?
treone replied to treone's topic in TradeMe discussions
I have heard about this particular enthusiast and their collection of 8's - if it is one of theirs then agree this is probably a well looked after example despite the kms (TBH the kms don't put me off as I think when vehicles are getting to this age kms becomes a bit irrelevant - its how its been maintained that is key IMO). Not quite in the market just yet but this is very tempting! Ticks a number of boxes for me though... -
Wondering if the E39 M5 has hit the bottom of their 'market value'. The last two $1 reserve M5's went for @ $17.5k and $18.5k. One other E39 M5 on TM at the mo for $22.5k. I would say this one's worth a gamble - damn if only I was in the market!

Manual conversion anyone? Hang on - the big-end bearings might need doing so it could be a lemon

8 Series - anyone familiar with this example?

Not thinking - will eventually be back in an 8. I get to see my old one now and then and every time I wish I never sold it! So either I buy my one back or look for an '8 Series project' haha. Thanks for the info ssbmw - I agree seems to be a very nice NZ new example except for the spoiler. I thought it was an early production. A post '94 8er doesn't come up too often and reasonable at $16k I think. -
Tempting... http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-1211481938.htm I recall this being listed about 2 years ago asking for mid-twenties. It was listed for quite a while. Seems like not much has changed in the interim - mileage and photos are the same hmmmm... I'm curious if anyone knows this car or has any information on it.

Well ... Well ... Oil Well ... anyone got one I can buy?

Try 16.4l and 26 cylinders: E60 V10 M5 - horrendousL/100km. HSV Avalanche 5.7 V8 - ridiculousL/100km. Holden Monaro CV 5.7 - verypleasantcamparedtotheother2butnowherenearyoursL/100km But the noise and power more than makes up for it What's even better fun is switching to 'range 'and watching it reduce before your eyes haha! -
Sad day indeed . Looks like I'm keeping my VZ HSV Avalanche wagon and V2 Monaro (manual!) and watch'em appreciate. Anyone interested in a E60 M5?

Wellingtons new 'smart' motorway. Feel for the Hutt Valley (SH2) commuters - it doesn't seem to be that 'smart' for them

Great to hear the water ingress was identified and sorted quickly. Believe me you dodged a bullet on that one! Hopefully you can now just drive and enjoy (for a few months at least )

If it has had a comprehensive restoration meaning everything: body, interior, suspension, motor, driveline, brakes, all rubber, all nuts, all bolts, body repairs, a complete bare metal respray in original colour and using genuine BMW parts then maybe. But judging by the photo's this one is nowhere near worth what they are asking IMHO. But how awesome will it to be to own and enjoy an E34 M5!

Any water in the rear passenger rear wells? Do you have a sunroof? if so blocked drain hoses could be a culprit. They run inside the roof cavity down the c-pillar to an outlet into the rear wheel arch/bumper (which is plastic). A common and notorious problem and a very bad design IMO :-(

What are your biggest pleasures of owning a BMW?
treone replied to KiwiTT's topic in General Discussion
Driving the 'monster in stealth' after time spent driving the HSV or Monaro. Then you realise what the Germans have got sooo right for sooo long... and the 500hp V10 grow X2l!! haha -
Now sold Cheers...

There's always one isn't there Back to the OP - 330i is a great choice. I hope you enjoy your BMW ownership and experience. A lot of experienced BMW owners on here who will be happy to share tips and advice. Cheers!

Good read. Any reason you didn't consider an M3 or M5? Either of these would have given you the looks, comfort and performance it seemed that you're looking for. An e46 or E60 m-series are of the same vintage and are now in the similar price bracket you were looking in. Sad to hear about your redundancy but I'm sure it will all work out.
