Does anyone have one of these and wanting to sell at a good price ? I was quoted $800 plus installation (getting close to $1000) by a local installer. The CD changer and CD player in my E60 has decided not to work. And now I'm stuck with the radio! Cheers!

Can someone explain the pricing for these 2 M5s?
treone replied to jin108's topic in TradeMe discussions
I would take the E60 M5. Oh wait I have The sound of the V10 in full flight is simply something else. and when coupled with torque - simply amazing! Then when you press the M button - all hell breaks loose... But I wouldn't say no to an E39 M5 either -
So I took it for a test drive this evening. It wasn't a long one but.... man what a machine the M5 is! Mainly drove in auto mode - yeah I know the purest are saying what the.. - on the motorway then hit the power button and the M5 turns into a absolute beast!!! My one and only experience in an M5 and I think I get it. Really waned to test it in the real world (realistically I would not be 'tracking' any of my cars) so went on the motorway and urban streets and I have to say that this thing is a wolf in sheep's clothing. It cruises no problem, is sedate around town - not a harsh ride at all and then when you need the torque its there on tap. Overall the condition is in good condition keeping in line with it being 10 years old. It seems to be 'poverty' specced - but hey its an M5! Dealer say they have replaced the fuel umps and regulator and has 'assurance' that the clutch has been replaced. However, I noticed in auto mode while driving urban the shifts seemed harsh mainly when down shifting - is this common? Man that didn't make it any easier!!

^Agree! This was my experience (and others I suspect) when I had my 840. And with it being a more modern M car it is more technologically advanced and complicated than an 8 series with serious consequencies if (or when) things go bang (as pointed out by previous posts). And thats why I'm leaning towards taking the cautious approach. Hopefully test driving today so will provide an update.

Thanks guys. This is where it pays to make a considered decision. The example I'm looking at is this one http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-992614746.htm. Does anyone know this car? I've bought of this dealer before but it's best to be cautious being a jap import with 123km. I see a BM Worshop sticker in a picture - maybe thats a good thing. I'm testing driving it tomorrow and will be asking about previous history, servicing and if any of the big ticket things have been done...

Appreciate the encouragement . One half says just do it while the other half says be practical and think this through . I have an HSV Avalanche at the moment and looking at moving on from a X3 into something like this. But 18 cylinders maybe a bit overkill! As the 'boss' requires something more less thirsty so daily-ing an M5 or an HSV isn't really that practical. Maybe get a cheap jappy as well and everyone will be happy! Go on do it! No, hang on, think about it! Go on do it! No, hang on, think about it!

Seriously considering an e60 M5. Have done the 'aunty google thing' and the most common result is clutch/flywheel etc. What are some of the issues that others have experienced and what type of maintenance maybe required for say a 10 year old, 100+ km example? for example EDC, Brakes, suspension, electrical gremlins etc. Is a mechanical warranty available for these and if so does the cost of purchasing one be worthwhile as some form of insurance for 'peace of mind' motoring? I am aware these were/are $200k plus hyper cars which are available for $30k-$40k but may/do still require $200k level of servicing :-). Really keen to hear from owners and servicing agents of their experiences. Cheers!

Looks great!

Car is now SOLD! And even better - to a Bimmersporter!

Would be happy for you to make an offer .

Forgot to add that it is registered til July 2016 and WoF'd til June 2016. Decided that it is on the market and will consider realistic offers, just not ridiculous ones. Cheers.

I'd much prefer 45 crisp $100 notes or 90 x $50 ones . I think its well priced at $4,500...

Thanks Brent - my thoughts also. Spoke to the dealer and told him the faults found were mainly: misfire cylinder 3, passenger upper seat twist and the soaking rear carpet. Comments back - seat will stay like that and won't be fixed, will dry the carpet and put the hose over it to see if there is a leak (sensed they won't/don't want to fix leak) and the misfire is an easy fix for someone. There's probably not enough margin in it for the dealer as they kept saying its just as it was traded and its a good price. Also inspected another 525i msport that had some worn suspension - tie rod ends, banana arms and rear tyres worn on the inside. I suppose it may come down to sort suspension on one or chase a leak, but thinking both of these are good buys - sooooo which is the lesser evil - leak or suspension? comments welcome

had this inspected over the weekend. It is in very good mechanical condition which was a pleasant surprise. BUT... there was evidence of water getting into the rear cabin as the rear carpets were soaking wet (among other things). Up until then this was looking like a great buy and was almost going to purchase.

Thanks for all the advice. Checked the VIN and this looks to be genuine with sport suspension. It really does look better in the flesh than in the pics - really a fan of that interior. Spoke to trader today and its under offer (subject to finance). Tells me if its still listed on Monday then its available - looks like I may have missed this one

Agree with the above - on the test drive it definetly felt tighter and quite repsonsive - more so that my old e39 535 - I know different car with different engine/suspension setup. Closest that I can compare to is my current 2.5l manual X3 and this really did feel solid and tight on the road. But again not really a like for like comparison. Probably get it checked out this week - will give an update.

I think you're right :-) Now just need to find a S62 and manual box, do a conversion and then have a 'M5' for cheap lol.

Appreciate the comments. I'm kinda over catching public transport to work and would like a daily that I can enjoy driving on a 50km round trip so this caught my eye as it was local. Was impressed with the condition despite the kms and how it drove. Quick browse through TM and this looks like a well priced msport for the age/kms and specs (this is the cheapest and best combo of the 8 525i msports on TM at the moment - IMO). Q - is a msport worth the 'premium' over standard 525i's of similar age as highlighted above?
-
Cheers everyone. Looks like next step is getting it checked out by my mechanic.

Had similar thoughts re: cooling system. The expansion tank has movement. Thinking next step is to get my mechanic to check and scan for any faults. Was impressed on the two test drives, only issue was it didn't make it up my driveway due to being too low Cheers!

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=891612201 Thinking of purchasing as a daily. Anyone familiar with this particular car? Its a genuine msport and seems in good condtion for age/kms. Drives quite 'tight'. One thing I've noticed is that keys don't seem original - they are not diamond head (there is an invoice for a replacement ignition barrell). Any issues to be aware of like alarm system courtesy open/close etc. Any advice appreciated. Cheers

As the second NZ owner of this 'RareM3' I can vouch for its condition and rarity. All the best with the sale and think that what you're asking is fair, Cheers.

Someone in Wellington region to do Valve Stem Oil seals on E31
treone replied to Kodachrome's topic in General Discussion
Hi there, I'm the guy who had a chat to you a couple of weeks ago in the local Mitre 10 carpark. As a former local owner of an 8 series, I had all my work done at Porirua City European (the Mike you refer to). they are based in Elsdon, next to North City Go karts. PM me if you woiuld like his number. They have worked on many of my cars including e39 535i, e34 520i, HSV Sentor, Holden Adventra and currently they service my X3 and HSV Avalanche. I recommend Mike! Cheers -
Good luck with your search and I hope you find the right one that ticks all the boxes for you. My only buying advice is find one that has been well maintained with plenty of evidence. They are out there (and even a couple of the v12's that are up for sale seem pretty tempting).
