  1. Blenhiem, out through renwic, over to Lake St Anarad, back down Korere Tophouse Rd into the back of wakefield! The most amazing road through golden downs foresty. Fast enough, steep enough, windy enough, empty enough. enough said.
  2. Abort pad changed. Discs are getting down to no servicable, and appears to be still 5mm of meat left on the pads. When do the sensons normally trip? seems pretty early to me. Is there a minimum pad thickness spec anywhere?
  3. I ended up going with genuine. Had a chat to the parts person and mentioned I am member of the Car Club and got a small discount ($200inc) Any tricks to fitting them? other than normal brake pad changes on most other cars? Cheers Logan
  4. Thanks! OEM sounds like the easiest / Safest option. Its just the price i dont like Is there much trade discount on genuine parts?
  5. Hi All, The rear brake pad linings on my 1995 e34 540i need replacing. I have called around and priced up genuine and repco (where I have a trade account) prices as followings; Genuine Sensors 28.97+ = $33.32 Genuine Rear Pads 162.89+ = $187.32 Genuine Front Pads 189.63+ = $218.07 Repco TRW / Lucas $72.97 Trade (retail 114) Repco Silverline $53.99 Retail Silverline i know are rubbish so can strike that off. Now I have had previous experience with TRW's and they have held up ok, even on short sprint days as a fall back measure on my race car. However I do not have an insight into the comparison to factory BMW pads. Being genuine pads a ~2.5x the price are they worth it? I know TRW's are a dusty pad and I also know Genuine are dusty so much a muchness? Are there other options? yellow/green/red stuff? what are they like Anyone in chch got a hook up for trade discount on genuine? Thanks Logan
  6. Hey all. Found these things for sale on TM. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=342020894 From the wheel offset calculation linked in wheels section they are; Fronts; 655 mm (25.8'') 1 mm (0.2%) taller. Package is 5 mm (0.2'') closer to suspension/brakes components. Acceptable for most cars. Package will stick out 15 mm (0.6'') farther. Acceptable for most cars Rears; 649 mm (25.6'') 5 mm (0.8%) shorter. Package will stick out 20 mm (0.8'') farther. Package is 30 mm (1.2'') closer to suspension/brakes components. What do people think about fitment based on their experience? I supose I will accept opinions on style also Cheers
  7. Thanks for the link. I have those on my watch list, but the seller wouldnt put any better pics up and the are pretty average for the price to be honest. Ray, I like the idea of running genuine or period wheels only, however the throwing stars are not really to my taste. Are the TK's the deep dish 5 star mags? what are the sizes? Cheers Logan
  8. Thanks already have the nice factory 16's. just after something bigger.
  9. Am in chch to factor into the mix/ Whats out there ?
  10. Sorry to hear about your cousin. I felt like I nearly joined the same statistic last week when some clown opened a car door on me at point blank. Luckily it was just a busted up bike and bruises, and i didnt fall under a car as it was in peak traffic on bealy ave. His door and front gaurd was toast. Could have been worse. The guy was a 50 year old sickness beneficary, on drugs and had had a beer (or 2?) and was totally not wit the program from driving, yet somehow it was legal for him to be in control of a car. He got breath tested by the cops and was fine, but got a $150 instant for "carelessly opening a car door". Bit of a slap on the wrist for injuring someone.... However I am just a daily comute rider and I have to agree with most comments you see some retard riders and cyclist and motorists. I think it comes down to a general un attentive and ignorant behaviour. I find chch red bus drivers some of the worst. If people actually realised they are controlling a ton + weapon and had the training to look for hazards and drive accordingly we would be in a much better place. However road cyclists biking abreast on the port hills... grrrr....... Logan
  11. Thanks for the info! Unfortunately I missed out on Brents mpars so will keep looking. At least I mostly know what I am looking for now.
  12. Thanks for that, It does not look the correct one unfortunatly.
  13. Yea that does look pretty cool! 275 tyres are very wide! I dont know much about offsetts etc and what will fit without having to attack the guards. Im nt interested in rolling the guards /lips or whatever. Also I have read somehwere about needing different hub centric rings?
  14. Apart from driving it and enjoying it not a huge amount. I would like to have the windows tinted, black leather can get VERY hot. I would also like some nice 18" wheels for it. Someing like som BBS LM's or RC090's. I brought the car off the orginal owner and it has only done 97,000k's now. I did have ideas of fitting a tow bar and using it to tow my race car around the country but I dont think I can bring myself to do it. I just cannot see me chucking a jack and spare tyres etc etc in the back of it. So apart from wheels and tints and fixing the pesky tail light error message and fixing or replacing the stock cd stacker not much. Have so far had both front seats apart to fix the cables. I do plan on doing a few laps around ruapuna in it at some stage. I have spent abit of time out there and do not think can keep the car away from the track since I live 10mins away. Taking bets on laptimes ? (for reference i can pedal my 4age corolla around in 1.39's). Cheers Logan

  16. Cool, My head unit is the factory Business RDS one. If te changer says on the front of it "cd changer a" or "cd changer p" it should work according to the manal, but the part numbers off the back and a photo would be awesome? Working when last used? How much? cheers Logan
  17. Mine was packed up when i got the car. It worked once for a few seconds before not working again,. it spins the discs but doesnt read them. Anyway. If anyone has a functioning one for sale of either of the above for sale please letme know. Sorry this is in the wrong place, i am unsure how to change it now?
  18. For a quick test this morning I unclipped and unwrapped the section of loom before and after it goes into the hinge. No visable signs of damage or fatigue. Carefully inspected each wire, straighten each one along its length. Left unwrapped and started car and turned things on and off and touched the brakes, and no warnings! A drive after work should confirm if this has indeed worked. Cheers for the pointers. Logan
  19. Middle high stop in window functions normally. Thanks for the pointers will post progress. LKM is date stamped 2002, so has been replaced with a new one at some stage in teh cars life.
  20. Checked LKM for dry joints on relays and all looks ok. Resoldered anyway. No Change. Unplugged both head light dip motors. Now only recieve "tail light" when depressing the brake pedal. Could this be boot loom? Whats the best way to "check" the loom for damaged wires? Cheers Logan
  21. Hi, I now own the spoken of black interior 540is/6. I have just done the mission from Auckland to christchurch in it and its fantastic. Funny that i serach the forums reseach bits and pieces and find the above references. The more i resach the car the more I realise its quite a special car. cheers Logan.
  22. So the drive down south was awesome and involved a few extra k's the back way blenheim to nelson, and back to Blenheim, and back to Able Tasman, Kaiteriteri before down the lewis to Christchurch. The car is awesome, with the discovery of the most amazing road from St Anard to Wakefeild, called tophouse something road. A must do if you are in the area. All is good with the car bar the following which I will be asking for some help with once I get some time to address; 1. Introduction to Christchurch BMW for insurance valuation (AMI have no record of anything bar a standard 540i apparently) 2. Dip Beam, Tail Light, Stop Light issues 3. Electric seat headrest wont go down (sounds like the typical cable expansion issues) Cheers Logan
  23. thank s will give it a go this weekend tried resoldeirng the lkm relay points to no avail. Cheers
