WTF, fonts changed. Just me or everyone???

This is what Andrew needs!

Be warned the diff you currently have may not work. They were changed part way through the E36 model, the pinion is smaller and the crown offset is closer to the centre. Dosesn't leave enough room for the LSD pack. You wont know till you open your diff.

Here ya are Dave. Bit rough around the edges, haven't done this for a while and probably too late but anyway

It's all part of the remote central locking/alarm system and the latches have hall sensors in them to tell the body control module whether the doors are open or closed (no door jam switch). What I haven't sorted yet is the manual key release to unlock the door. There's also a contact switch around the window seal for jamming fingers in the elec windows. Did I mention it's gonna take a while!??

Dave knows his regs. Firewall is hammered back to fit the back of the head. I'll have to talk to the race commitee about this. If I keep ol' Foxy on side they may look a little more favourably on it This is a crap pic but it shows the E46 door latch in the E30 door. Door harness is installed with electric windows etc.

Oooo man love from Simon*. Dont worry I wont be painting it purple. Those wheels are BBS RK001 35p 17x8. E36/46 fit.

Can buy a half decent 328 for $5000

Ok so somebodys paying attention! Take an E30 subframe, cut the mounting points (ends) off, weld the E46 centre between them forward 50mm to shift the control arm mounting to center the wheels and recess the engine 50mm into the firewall to clear the sump. Knock up some rear control arm mounts (cut from the E46) and the subframe and E46 front end bolts to the E30. This means I keep the rack, sump, subframe brace from the E46 and the sump guard from the South African E46. Sump should be a lot safer behind the subframe now. The E30 subframe bolts are quite small so I'd like to add some on a tag laterally through the chassis arms.

One of the big problems is that the E46 heater box wont fit behind the dash, it's really big. So all the work on the console might fail. It's all controlled by servos and trying to adapt them to an E30 heater.... One of the motivations for a race car! The E46 cluster is smaller then the E30 so a bit of gluing, filling, sanding and painting later... The wing mirror glass pieces are identical in shape!! Sun shines on a dogs arse sometimes. The reason for transferring all these things is to make it all work on the E46 electronics. Its easier for me to do this than trying to make the electronics work on the E30 stuff. Exhaust manifolds are standard, more on this later. Oh yea, there are more photos in the gallery.

Extremly (sp) rare to get an LSD standard even in overseas markets. I had an E30 centre fitted to the E36 housing as did Glenn but mine was a 3.64 ratio. I found it a lot of fun but its not for everyone. Glenn's really the one to talk to, his is much more suited to the road (3.15?). Standard car should rev approx 2500rpm at 100 km/h. Unfortunatly the only marking on mine was a sticker on top of the housing! 3.07 from a NZ new auto (ZF trans). The E30 LSD unit will fit earlier E36 crown wheels but not the later units.

What happens when you combine one of these With one of these? Well, I still dont know! But heres some photos, cause everyone likes photos What was left of the donor. Out with the old. Engine hoist? What engine hoist? A little rust! Not bad for a 23 year old car. Setting out the engine. M52tub28. Front suspension setout. Wheel placement Slight difference in track Modified subframe. Sway bar and steering linkage yet to be installed Amazing how similar these cars are Dash mocked up Some finished stuff E46 mirror motors in e30 housing Steering column and pedals And a taste of whats to come Phew! that took me a while. Biggest problem with this car at the moment is deciding what I want it to be. It started as a nice road car but the temptation to turn it into a race car is strong. In the meantime I'll keep plugging away at it. Don't expect too much progress, I'm fairly slow HA! This post has been promoted to an article

Factory manual?? Should be a 2.98. Where do your revs sit at 100km/h in 5th? If thats the case a 3.73 is way too short.
-
Hole saw?? However you end up doing it, it'll probably need to be removed to access it and/or clean the shavings.

My 2c... If it's rusty, replace it.
