my recomendation: it will be cheaper to buy the same engine off trademe than rebuild yours.... camshaft is likely to be ~US$200+ shipping from US, and set of rockeds... i dunno, you would have to check. since you will be doing that you will need aswell all head seals, most likely inclusing new headgasket and new headbolts. (read another ~NZ$300-$400). now thats if you do the job yourslef. expect several hundred NZ$ from a reputable workshop for labour... for $500 you should be able to fuins a decent 318 engine on trademe.... possibly even 318 IS engine....

i reckon turbo is the best bet for m20... m20 in na form is not really tunable as stock intake mainfold is pretty damn good, and you are getting towards the limit on 2 valve engine. depending on how much money you are prepared to spend really... i think cheapest power for e30 is m30 conversion.... then m50 and stroked m20 turbo are more expensive, m50 2.8 for nice N/A power and turbo m20 will be good for about 350bhp.. if you do it cheaply (secondhand parts, etc) you might get it all done for $3k for the same amount you might be able to build N/A m20 with maybe 230-250hp. these price estimates assume you do alot of work yourself. If you want a reputable tuner do it for you expect $10k for a start...

well... get a second opinion. if camshaft is worn then rockers will be aswell. I'm not sure how much work is inlolved on m10.... but quite alot on m20....

I have a whole bunch of motronic related software and documentation. motronic was mounted in many cars, so basically you need a thing called "offset file" for your very ECU. I might have everything ther, didnt really get a change to play with it, but if anybody wants to have a go I can send a CD or something....

I'd like to know that aswell. Correct me if I'm wront but pre FL and post FL bumpers dont match

I'm after one aswell (something along 3.40 ratio would be the shiz i reckon). I'm thinking about importing a bunch of them from europe... obviously to keep the costs down I would have to import like 10 of them on a pallete and send by the ship (read 3 to 4 months in transit). hard to say how much would they be once here, but me thinks around NZ$600-NZ$800 BUT i could ship few m21 TD crankshafts withit... and possibly some other rare parts....

depending on what you want to spend. If you want to do it reach cheap (and good), i'd do the following: but an m20b25 or m20m27 engine - whichever you can get cheaper, possible even in a wrecked car... put your head on any bottom... thats it... if you buy m20b25 engine, then you will be able to either put it whole in there or swap out the heads and sell m20b25 head - these should feth good price....

well, i emailed him and txt'ed him. no reply....

fuel pump is controlled through relay by ECU (ecu grounding relay) tps is a switch type, 3 pin. ground in the middle, grounds 1st pin on no throttle other pin on full throttle. anything in between in considered "partial throttle" idle soilenoind is pwm type, middle pin is +12 and the other a regounds - you should drive them with pwm signal alternatively

1. ok. re megasquirt install writeup...i wont be repeating what you can find on www.e30tech.com... there's a dude there, his handle is iXer - he's a bloody legend... wrote several MS/vems m20 tuning guides.... besided... megasquirt manual says it all really. 2. i havent finished tuning my ms2 yet, due to several reasons... first i had issues with my custom made crank pickup, which I *think* we sorted out just last wednesday, but thats not confirmed yet. secondly, it's because i hardly use the car, since i got a motorbike... seriously.. i use my car to go food shopping and thats about it.... everywhere else i take bike. 3. remember, i'm not an 'expert' tuner. I learned about megasquirt, then installed it myself then tuned it myself - i have no prior experience in ECU, EFI or engine managnment, but I'm a hard out DIY dude and nothing is hard/difficult enough for me to prevent me from attempting it. I just followed instructions and stuff. WOT areas are relatively easy to tune... you just want as much advance as you possibly can a ndA/F ratio of about 12.5:1. It's the idle/cruise areas that are hard to tune out to be smooth yet economical. if you dont care about economy, tuning is really easy... but thats not my style. 4. regarding bosh ecu editing software... I'm not sure exacly. I just had a brief play around with it, i'm not sure whats all there... it it not very user friendly... if you dont know what you are doing then probably you wont have an idea what do do with it... it's not like megasquirt tuning software, which is easy and realitevely user-friendly. 5. if anybody can hook me up with some cheap dyno time, I'd be keen. I'm estimating 1-2 hours of dyno time I could tune my engine completly. right now i'm just road tuning, which is not as accurate.... 6. if anybody is keen to put MS or vems in his E30 (or any other car for that matter), I'm keen to help out with information and even work If anybody feels keen to come by and have a look at my contraption/etc, feel free to drop me a pm...
-
oh, and btw... motronic can be tuned, but you need special software (i got a collection of software to do that) and EPROM reader/writer (no idea how that works/where to get it, etc).
-
I run megasquirt 2. another dude buying components locally put his one together for NZ$300.... hard to beat the price... it does all you need in an m20 engine.... if you want to spend few hundys more and get more features/etc i'd go with VEMS - this is teh shiz.... fraction of a price of a motec and will handle all the latest generation engines. I'm sorry, I'm just DIY like that.... like to do stuff myself instead of giving it to other ppl, paying lotsa $$$ and hoping for the best. performance/throttle response/economy/cold start and run/etc is a matter of tune. Tuning an ECU is not a 'finite' task, as in you cant ever say an ECU is 100% tuned. A tuner might do a good or average or bad job. If you know how to tune you understand how powerfull and customizable EFI is.... Tuning is a matter of feel... so if you know/can do it then you can have whatever you want....

what else do you have ? engine at all ? headlights ? drivetrain ?
-
Hello ppl. I'm looking for m20 2.7 short block. I'll consider anything - even if it needs a rebuild. As well I need 60-2 teeth front crank timing wheel for m20 - normally came with late type m20 engines on e30's and e34's.... I'll need a VR sensor aswell....
-
so you have any left ??? set you mean all 4 corners ?
-
thats cool.. i'll just rebuild eta block from wreckers
-
heya. m20b20 is smaller diameter , so i really need m20b25....
-
what do you need it for might i ask ?
-
so you still have it ? what compression the engine was (different etas had different compressions you know...) you got block, crank and pistons... no sump eh ? wondering whats the condition of the block, in terms of how maby k's... will it need a rebuild ?
