    Bucket seats

Howdy guys. I'm just looking at buying NZKW reclinable bucket seats for my e30 coupe. What greatly discouraged me is somebody telling me that they will need a cert (I'll need a cert once i put the turbo on and stuff, but that's not just yet). I'm looking at LVV Cert documentatino and i think what they mean is that if stock mount points are used and stock mounting points for the seatbelt are used then no cert is required.... however, in e30, one side ot the seatbelt is attached directly to the rail/seat (moves together with the seat, therefore if I retained stock rails and just fit those seats onto those stock rails I should be ok ? or will that aswell require cert ? if i get pulled over can police question it ? what about wof testing officers ? from experience i know some of the are more rigourous than others and it greatly depends on whether they are having a good day or not...
  2. so how is the tuning going ? it took me long time to get mine under control, i always had issues with accel enrich....
  3. i'd be quite keen for either cloth or leather Sport interior for e30 coupe. do you have asking price or you are just auctioning that on trademe ?

I could take the wheels/tires. i got a spare set of bottle caps with warrant able tires if that helps.

Hey, what wheels are these ? and where did you get them / how much were they ? any visible rust ? what m50 do you have ?
  6. originally it was parts. for about about US$80-100 extra you can buy assembled and tested unit, with warranty/etc, from one of many online retailers.
  7. not only that. it can use only map or only maf or both + any combination of that with alpha-n. not many other ecu's can do that. the algorithms are constantly developed/improved/tuned, matching and often exceeding those of high-end commercial units, user base is huge (all though not local), ms has hands down biggest beta tester community. It's all open code, so they are not trying to sell it as 'latest and greatest', but rather they tell you what it can do and what are the limitations... I was looking for alternative ecu for my next project, but really short of spending several g's on high end motecs/autronic's/wolf's/etc there's nothing else on the market that will match it's advanced control algorithms.
  8. well... it's only as good as you can tune it.here's why afm replacements and piggybacks don't work they work by tricking the stock ecu that there's different amount of air going into the engine that it's actually is. so that's ok for fueling. the problem is that timing is based on the same input. so as you adjust fueling, you are aswell adjusting timing. and you dont really have control over it. one is tied to the other. richer retards spark, leaner advances it. it works 'ok' as long as you use good quality fuel and the changes are minor. Even then engine might run with less than optimal settings, i.e. you are not getting optimal power or fuel economy. it seems to run ok though. the only bad thing i can say about megasquirt is that is had no official local vendor support. there are people who run it, have experience operating it, and can help you out (such as myself). Make no mistake. MS is meant for DIY people, who following great documentation can install it and tune it themselves. if you dont know how/cant be bothered learning then i suggest you got for one of the commercial ECU's +install charge + tuning charge. if you change something then pay for retune. Again, make no mistake, i've seen several 'professional installations with dyno tuning' that were, sub-optimal to say at least. Decent job wont be cheap.
  9. IMHO, if you want to do tuning on the road you do need wideband. period. yes, all though tuning with this is possible, it would be very hard, and not user friendly. you would need to know like ecu rom map and offsets so you know in which bytes what info is stored. There's this software made by atlantis software called "motronic editor' i think.... which would be worth the money if you are keen to do it, but then again, it is not 'on the fly tuning', you would need to know exacly what you want done before tuning.
  10. I'm in auckland I i would be happy to help with conversion in exchange for pizza/woodstok bourbon&cola's, and skids afterwards I got a getrag 260 (or 265 i think ?) with sensors in the bellhousing (siutable for motronic 1.1 conversion), BUT I would only swap it for another suitable another getrag manual tranny (like one without sensors in the bellhousing - i dont use these as i run aftermarket ecu, but i do need manual tranny.)

oh yeah, and i'm aswell looking for e36 m3 steering rack or alternatively a z3 steering rack.
  12. i'm not sure what you are trying to achieve. this thread is about m20 engine, while you are talking about m50 engine. If you could eplain clearly what's you are trying to do then i could possibly advise you on how hard/what's involved, etc. all in all, everything is doable, it's just the matter of time and money...
  13. well, it's an m20, so it will bolt straight into any m20 compabitile chasis/enginemounts... as for ecu... no, this is motronic 1.1, it has 35 pin connector and were installed only in the very early e30's. as of 86 v1.1 was replaced with v1.3, which has 55pin connector.
  14. yes, we could talk and mayube thing as the hole and split cost. I sort of don't understand you saying that it will save you wiring up m50 ?
  15. well, depends how much you know about it and what you are prepared to do... If I was building turbo setup on cheap, i would retain stock ecu, and get cheapest possibly ecu (maybe something like old, fuel only megasquirt), to drive extra set of injector(s), and i would spray a mixture of fuel and toulene, and keep the turbine size on the large side, to minimize egt's and get a LC-1 windeband to monitor afr's.... with such setup you can even get away with stock 10:1 compression... for reaonably low boost... like 10 psi. possibly 12 ? but at those levels i would intercool and probably water/meth injection
  16. yep, be carefull guys, most of those ebay manifolds (including 'manifold adapter') will not work in our cars, because we have steering wheel on the right side (no pun intended)... if you wanna see my custom build manifold, go to e30tech forums, "FI intake and exhaust" section and there's this thread there called 'mops' manifold build....' plenty of step by step pics
  17. I got ms2 running in my e30 325i around auckland for over a year now. i Can provide help in installing/tuning if you are serious about ems, you should consider other options... it all depends on how much $$$ you have and what exacly you want done... ms might or might not be for you.

Can you specify good condition ? reality is that (depending on use) after about 100k kilometers, clutchpacks are severly worr out and require replacing, which is very expensive.... would you have lower ratios ? I'm quite keen for something like 3.25.... i could even buy open unit with 3.25 ratio... that would be much siutable.
  19. sorry, you didnt replied whether i can see it running. after reading the thread I presume it is already out of the vehicle. Any discount, if I dont take ECU or loom ? I just need the long block really...
  20. do you know the spring rates ? for 4 or 6 cylinder model ?
  21. Hi. I might be interested. Is it possible to hear it running ? at least is is possible to view it ? did it had auto or manual tranny ?
  22. um, uh... i sorta always wanted e28, but kinda $1300 is kinda too much for me... I've seen few m20b27 bottom ends, and after 300k's crank will require a grind and then they recommend nitriding, and that's like $700 just to get crank in order + on top of that you need oversize bearings and pretty much an engine rebuild, i'm going through the same process right now, because in over 2 years now i found only 3 different m20b27 bottom ends and they all have been f****, including one seriously damaged, beyond economical repair - it was out of manual tranny car with trust bearing worn INTO the crank, causing massive crank float - like 2mm, while max my manufacturer spec is like 0.18mm if memory serves me right... if only this engine was serviced it's entire life well then it would be ok, but really you wont know until you take it apart and measure.... but tell you what, if you want to sell me e28 without engine/tranny for cheap then i'd be keen , but i had to come by and have a looksee and then a talky-talky
  23. wee hey, brent, I'm after e36 power steering rack, i good working order for 30 conversion.
