  1. Will done guys. Done more than my share of all nighters and data centre recoveries. Thought about running on VMware in the Clould ? Can make it easy to turn up performance when needed and scale back when demand is low. Providers like rackspace.com can be quite cost effective.

  2. Mate has one. Seriously think we should have one to replace the wife's 328.

Has tonnes of room. The SRT version will stay with a 760. The Boston Acoutics sound system will put any Hk assisted Bmw sound system to shame. The engine drops to a 4 Cly on the long trips giving 6 cylinder type fuel enonomy. Has a tonne of room. RR no way, but contender for comfy euro replacement. I think so.

  3. Progress has been slow, it's amazing how much short the days seem since my daughter was born late last year.

    Update

Tidied up none factory Nav loom and TV tuner loom. Brought a TV tuner retro wiring loom and removed old Jap Nav loom extras.

The CD stacker stopped loading CD's after the last track day. Took the unit out and cleaned up all the CD loading bits and re-lubbed with lithuim grease. Running good again.

Added a $30 E46 Ebay reverse cam, relay and wiring for power / video / reverse. Video Cam wasn't a great fit and required filing down and silicone around the edge. However , seems reliable enough.

Added a Reisler Ibus to USB adaptor and wired it into the BMW wiring loom. Simple exercise as it only needs power , earth and Ibus connections. Useful device as allows the PC to read Data on the Ibus. In turn I'm using software from the internet to interpret the Board Monitor Nav screen buttons and knobs to control Car Media software Rideruner and Carmedia

The E46 M3's have a reduced tyre well and only use a gunk pump rather than spare tyre. Not great if you get anything other than a puncture but perfect for dropping amps into. Did a bit of a boot mock up for an AMP Rack / Crossovers and Netbook. Looks like it will all fit. Not pictured is another set of crossovers and I still need to sort a USB powered DAC for the Netbook for better audio resolution.

Have added a USB powered hub so I can add more usb devices over time. So far will power and connect Bluetooth , 3G Data , Bluray , Ibus adaptors , video adaptor. Will add Freeview Tuner and Hi res audio Dac at a later date

Added a video Cable to TV Video Module Aux input. This will be used for displaying the Netbook via the 16:9 standard BMW screen. It's not the highest resolution screen but seems ok. Using a Dicksmith VGA to video convertor from the Netbook

Removed the Jap toll system card reader box from the glasses compartment. The USB bluray player seems to fit in it's place nicely. Will cover off any optical media.

  4. The OBD counts down from 25,000km ... I know because mine was reset last year and it's the first time it has been reset to that. Despite that I've already had countless oil changes and one inspection 1 done regardless.

Have you ever had analysis of the oil done after an oil change ?

Normally the oil has no problem in terms of it's properties at this amount of km's unless the car only gets short runs or sits around too much (track days as well). Need to remember that it's not shared with the gearbox as with other engines and will last longer. Quick visual check via the oil on the dipstick will give a reasonable indication.

  5. Current system is a pain in our household with 5 needing warrants every six months. Like the idea of the new rules.

3 out of 5 will only require yearly warrants. Three of them have done 77k 34k and 12k respectively and are all older than 6 years but were built after 2000 and two do less than 5k per year.

The other two IMO should be checked every six months, Ones from the sixties and will be used for motorsport and the other is an e36 approaching 170,000 km.

  6. Commuting is the best clutch run in in my opinion with lots of low load gear changes.. ( I normally get 200,000 + km out of Oem clutches including the odd bit of towing and track days)

Usual stuff, rev match gear changes on up or down shifts. Don't ride it excessively

Depending on clutch type , some already are partially run in ( like ap racing) so don't need to be treated so gently initailly. They talk about .5mm of wear being the norm for run in of the linings.

Just make sure the install was clean and keep grease or brake clean well away otherwise they are stuffed perfomance wise before you've started. Usual bearing check beforehand etc.

  7. I have GT Radial HRX 245/40/18 all round...

I always though GT Radials were crap, but they seem fine. I have a less powerful E34 though.

Mike Eddie an co were running these on the e90 M3 to help keep costs down. The grip on the hot laps was very good 4 up. Goes to show how good some tyres are at a modest price (good driver no doubt also helps)

  8. Have used video retrofit cable between mk4 nav and video tuner / bm53 radio

All video functions are working correctly

However , the audio does not work from the tv tuner or nav. The retrofit loom splits the audio out via via separate lines rather than the mk4 nav audio out via the video tuner.

    Both bm53 radio b & c connectors have nav / tv inputs ( B has pins 11&12) (C has pins 5&11)

    My questions are

Is it valid as per current loom to have the nav mk4 audio connected to B 11 & 12 and the Tv connected to C 5&11 ?

Other wise if the nav mk4 audio goes via the tuner white audio connector inputs which connector / pins should the tv tuner audio out go to . ( the blue/white and yellow combo)

I've googled and tried combos , but haven't achieved and sound output from the tuner of mk4 nav

  9. Got mine via Supercheap. They are similar to Allen key L style tools. Also brought one of their plastic trim removal sets which is great for getting trim apart without marking it.

I like the idea of lumber support and was thinking of retrofitting to m3 seats at some stage.
