Hi everyone Ive been lurking around the forums for 18 months now, gathering information and contributing only a little, biding my time... But on sunday i travelled down to wellington to pick up my new ride and joy- a manual e30! A bit about myself- im Tomo from Rothesay Bay on the North Shore of Auckland, i am 18 years old and currently studying first-year business at Massey University in Albany. My other ride is a new Apple Macbook and a Specialized A1 mountain bike. Previously i have been driving my parent's spare car, a 1991 e30 318i auto sedan which isnt exactly what ive been wanting but sufficient transport, i also have on occasion managed to wrangle a drive of my dad's e39 528i manual. But now... ... I dont need to! Ive got my own car! It is my first car ive ever owned, its a 12/1987 e30 coupe f/l m40 manual in alpineweiss. ( I trademe) 189,000kms and mechanically its running perfect, the body has a few tiny spots of rust but otherwise mint. Its got wind up windows, the wind-up sunroof and a panasonic head unit and speakers, and factory power-steering delete, no air con (dont need it with the sunroof) and a lovely wooden shift knob. Pics now on Cardomain!

Absolutely right. Every friday / saturday night whenever i go off to the clubs they're lining queen street, it is totally ridiculous. Police could actually make a killing walking up and down the centre line of queen street while theyre all idling along stuck in traffic with a wad of green and pink stickers, issuing fines, checking certs and everything... who cares if the cops stop a car in traffic on queens street at midnight on a friday, get them to turn it off write them a ticket even have it towed.... the ONLY people they would be holding up is the boy racers, period. ...it would be a great deterrant! imagine the embarassment of having your car stopped dead and pinked infront of all the clubbers at that time of night!

great to see darwinisim is still alive and well i must say i agree... i also agree with reaper47's police involvement, you cant beat them and it can often make it worse... joining them with a few wrx's like units in NZ's alpine areas used to have only kitted out would give them a means of involvement... the problem is convincing them to keep it confined to events and not just every other night regardless. Compulsory insurance would be a big step in the right direction however stolen cars do exist... like ipwnyou's "birthday present" (man that sucks). Crushing is a little extreme (and such a waste) but im certainly for harsher penalties... impound them, not the car... because that certainly isnt working, they view it as nothing major...

How do you tihnk these will look on an E39?
Tomo replied to a13antichrist's topic in General Discussion
i concur. skinny 18s on e39 is not quite enough... heck i look at my M5 rep. 18s and long for slightly increased diameter... Really nice wheels for e36 tho. -
"According to the scoring guide, your bmw experience level is: A definite BMW Nerd, welcome to the fold! " Sweet.

Interesting you mention it i saw superstars too, there seems to be a really small field only about 12? Certainly odd seeing the old body of the S-Type leading e60 m5's!!!

ill stick my votes on SH43 the forgotten highway (Taumarunui to Stratford) Goudies Road, Reporoa (off the highway between Taupo and Rotovegas, this is the 7KM straight road they do the official NZ land speed records on ) The Motu i.e. Motu Road between Motu and Omarumutu east of Opotiki, the classic NZ rally stage... gravel all the way and the road is 1.2 cars wide but excellent back-country drive

Im taking apart the back seat at the mo so i can get some audio cables thru and cant seem to remove the rear seat back! It seems pretty secure, as ive tried to *encourage* it a bit... have already taken the bottom seat piece out and headrests... a little help as to what to do from someone experienced? Cheers Tomo

Hi there sorry its been a while since ive been near a computer.. I ended up getting it down to my bmw garage where they made a much more reasonable offer for repairs... i got the headlight and grille replaced so that it is wof-able and doesnt look nearly as bad... it was then to deal with the insurance company where a small victory was attained, getting $2500 for repairs after negotiations on the figure so that it was agreeable for them and enough for us (maybe even enough to get a few other bits and pieces tidied up, so all good). It really has been a hassle but its nowhere near as bad as it initially looked now... whew.

Ok- this sucks muchly: Heres pics of our much loved e30 318i runabout which has fallen victim to the incompetence of some old-age-pensioner. Before: And after: He failed to give way at a roundabout in mairangi bay and drove straight into the front corner, causing damage to both sections of the front bumper, foglamp, headlights, grille, bonnet, front guard, the guard inner piece and the brake cooling duct. [very unimpressed ] But it gets worse. His insurance company has assessed it and come back with this to say: The car is valued at $3000 by their valuer, but the damage repair quote from their approved panelbeater exceeds this at $3200, so they wish to WRITE IT OFF entirely and pay me the paltry sum of $3000. I must say im pretty gutted. This car is worth much more to me than $3000 considering it gets me around and it cost $7000 from a second hand dealer only a couple of years ago. I plan to take this down to the garage where it gets serviced and see what they would quote for a 2nd-hand repair job but it seems i may be in a bit of a squeeze to accept the money from the insurance company, and whether or not they will make a payout for a 2nd-hand repair is another question entirely. But i must say this is a big bloody mess for a trip down to the shops. Beware of oldies!
