hybrid 1044 Report post Posted November 25, 2009 Oooooo shiny bits! E: How does that plate fit to the car? This the product installed, with the different Delrin knob option.

Nobimmer 694 Report post Posted November 25, 2009 Yeah I think I'm going to chuck that shifter onto the bush order too. Does it do away with the normal 90 deg bracket thats normally under the tunnel?
c.robertson00 11 Report post Posted November 25, 2009 That cage is insane!!!
JiB 2 Report post Posted November 25, 2009 That's mint! Any chance you can measure how high the knob would sit? And is there any particular reason why you went for this over the UUC shifter? I'm guessing the solid mounting would be tops for feel? Have been also been looking at getting my shift action sorted. It's not bad at all, but my MX5 makes it seem like I'm stirring porridge in the E30
hybrid 1044 Report post Posted November 25, 2009 Just a note guys .. that caged e30 isnt mine! just showing you the shifter installed. Will measure it after band practice ... those of you going to R&V .. got a killer ending to the set planned Went with this over the UUC shifter as its far cheaper and more of a true replica of the proper bmw MS DTM shifter. + it has better reviews than the UUC option. Its not really for the nice quite road car as with the solid mounting its going to be noisy (ish) The feel of the ball race bearing is flawless
ED1RTY 2 Report post Posted November 25, 2009 Grrrr the one Antiform gig I cant make!! Lame-oooo You still going with thew DTM spec cage? Guessing it would be similar to the one posted?
hybrid 1044 Report post Posted November 25, 2009 thats the plan, The car will be a hard core road car to start with till I can save the needed $$$ to do what I want to it race car wise. Got a wedding to pay for too in the mean time hehe
westy 614 Report post Posted November 25, 2009 Ahhh. That would solve a few problems with the shifter in Alice.
*Glenn* 855 Report post Posted November 25, 2009 You will have to make sure your gearbox and engine mounts are really firm with that shifter Josh, otherwise engine torque or forward/aft movement is going to alter selection position and like you said you will get noise transfer with that shifter
hybrid 1044 Report post Posted November 25, 2009 Glenn, Went for one grade (delrin) under solid mount to solve that problem, its going to be a fairly highly strung ride but its not my daily so it should be fine. I was thinking about solid mounting the diff however I wont be doing that till I get the cage in at a later date and tie it to the diff mount. Tony, give me a yell if you need to measure it up at all for your project before I put it in the car.
westy 614 Report post Posted November 25, 2009 I wonder if I could rubber mount it to the chassis?
|ncary 0 Report post Posted November 25, 2009 Just with AKG 75D engine mounts and stock gearbox mounts, my shifter doesn't move at all when going from throttle to off-throttle and vice versa in the cabin, so I can recommend those. The 75D gearbox mounts are where the gear noise comes from, and not really needed if the engine doesn't twist. You'd have to brake and accerlerate awfully hard (like a f1 car) to get the engine and box to tip backwards and forwards noticibly with stock gearbox/75D engine mounts. And the movement it does have will move the gate pattern forward and backwards a few mil, not affecting your gear slotting like side to side movement would with sloppy mounts.. Thought through with decent practical experience and theoretical know-how
hybrid 1044 Report post Posted December 14, 2009 Its been 5 weeks in the making and fair bit of CAD work plus mock up from westy's e30/e46 flywheel / pressure plate setup (cheers tony).. I bring you the billet s50b32 single mass flywheel. It weighs in at 6.23kgs and had the dual mass ring gear put onto it to match my starter setup. Old s50 dual mass vs the new single mass (quite the difference) Should rev like a bitch now...
