I had to d*ck about fixing the gearbox that I broke by not knowing how to put the transmission on properly. the local euro mechanic was more than happy to explain how to fit the torque convertor! bravo 34 Report post Posted December 16, 2009 ^+1 E30 owners - mechanics are for people who don't own one. A couple of things I thought of whilst reading through this that may help others. The bad earth you experienced that stopped the car from starting can also be caused by not tightening the starter bolts up properly as it relys on this connection for the earth as hotwire points out. Also, someone else mentioned the correct procedure for checking auto trans fluid - warm gearbox, engine running at idle, flat surface, gearbox in park. Otherwise you won't get a reading.
