flake 0 Report post Posted September 12, 2010 (edited) hey guys still having no luck getting the e30 started. we've tryed running nathans ecu, coil and f/p relays in my car and got nothing. then got an idea to run my ecu, coil, f/p relays in his car and what do you know, they work fine. so we've established my gear is ok and not waterlogged which brings us back to square one. possible ideas we've had so far are ignition switch or fuel pump have given up the ghost. a missing earth, but i cant think where. to repeat myself i can't hear the fuel pump humming when key is in axillary position and no fuel comes out at the hoses at the fuel rail when cranking. also noticed my ICV isn't humming either. problem? i'm not very well electrically minded thus proving it. can anyone in the wellington region recommend an auto electrician that "specialises" in bmws. or wellington members that actually know e30 electronics and dont just think they do like me note the car can't be delivered to them/place as it have its ass in the air. so at this stage i don't mind having to pay dollars $.....$$.....$$$.....$$$$$$$.....$ to get it going. fingers crossed it's something stupid. all opinions are welcome Edited September 12, 2010 by flake
pureboiracer 0 Report post Posted September 12, 2010 i can come up and have a look if you want. pm me. ive done my fair share of e30 wiring.
Palazzo 478 Report post Posted September 13, 2010 Have you not actually checked the pump? Ours crapped out earlier this year, no fuel at rail, no fuel at filter, figured pump and away it went. If you can't smell fuel, it's my uneducated guess, sounds exactly the same as ours.
flake 0 Report post Posted September 13, 2010 i am offically the world's biggest idiot. turns out it was something as simple as pluging in a wire. big thanks to drte30 for coming over and helping me out. within 5 minutes of him being here the problem was sorted. when removing the ecu loom through the firewall to take the engine out so i could fix the rust behind it, i tapped up all the wires so that when i pulled it through i didn't scar any of the insulation. and of course i tapped up a little 3 wire white block connecter and forgot about it as i couldn't see it. turns out this is needed to be connected to another 3 wire white block connecter nuder the dash that i didn't think was of any use. Oli - "ok so ecu is in, what about the other three ecu connection wires." Anthony - " " talk about fail! connect the 3 wire white block connecter, ecu in, key on. FUEL!!! connect fuel lines to rail. BANG. you have one noisey s.o.b in my garage bopping away. i could not believe it. what a trap for young player. again oli i really appreciate your help, this had me stumped. plan now is to get the driveshalf in, put exhaust back on (damn), install interior, spanner check then go do skids. i've had the flywheel lightened/balanced, weights about 6.5kgs. driveshalf has been balanced and i have replaced just about everything maintainance wise. really looking forward to getting back in it and get the feel of how tight she's going to handle. will keep you posted. time for another wellington meet! with all the good old boys too! flake 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2010 pickapart LSDs ftmfw!!! OT sorry but did you notice if the front suspension had been played with on the E30(s) up there? i need a few bits that got lost in the house move what are you after, cause all the sets of 51mm struts are in my garage.lol sorry brett i was using my heino spellcheck. yeah i was very pleased with my score at pickapart. reason being is i brought the car without a lsd in it so getting one for roughly $60 pretty much made my day. the diff was out of an '86 SA 325i auto which is probably why it has a tall-ish ratio. diff tag states - 45:13s so 3.46 slippery ratio. the engine had 210km on the clock, a bit of rust and raped front seats but otherwise tidy which hopefully should reflect on the diff condition. plan now is to get it rebuilt with a more rev happy ratio like a 3.76 and install my delrin hanger bush on that. at the moment i'm driving the car to work every day and taking it easy. still wearing in the HD clutch from "rds" and brakes etc. nothing has fallen off just yet, thats always good and i dont think i had any nuts or bolts left when i put the engine gearbox etc back in which was suprising. here's a pic of her now with colour matching front gaurds and body kit trims. need abit more slammage all round but i've got some springs and smaller profile tires that i'll play around with at some stage
_ethrty-Andy_ 2136 Report post Posted October 4, 2010 cracked up when i noticed someoen had taken all the front struts. you have a few 45mm ones too you took by accident though i think?? found what i was after lying on the ground anyway though, just after the nuts that go onto the tierods/outer ball joints and the tops of the struts. was tempted to get the rear cream leather seats they had up there for mine ive always wanted them but oh well. Time for another welly meet i say!
Jacko 2158 Report post Posted October 4, 2010 LSD for $60.. you jammy bugger Whatya rekon about the HD clutch (stage 2 or whatever its called?) I have one for my swap.
flake 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2010 i was there 9 oclock on the dot saturday ready and waiting, as soon as i got inside i made a bee-line for the bimmers. haha just luck of the draw i guess, but it took me a while to figure out what i stumbled upon. like i say haven't really had the chance to give it sh*t with the new clutch but so far it definatley grips well. has quite a heavy pedal feel and you can ride it in traffic. yeah i think it was a stage 2 HD carbon kevlar disc blah blah blah. wont know how well it goes until i get the car on the track. i also replaced the clutch master and slave just for peace of mind
